Heck of a mystery!

Hannah's death certificate shows her mother was Saphronia Revis, daughter of Martha Roberts and Henry Revis (1870 census) Elberta's shows her parents were Martha and Henry which conflicts with the 1900 census. Sallie Malissa Revis was shown single living with her mother in 1900. Are one or both hers???

Anyway, I've seen many of the family's graves in Clark's Chapel Cemetery in Weaverville.

What do you think?

jamesarcher@yahoo.com

I spoke with my mom a bit ago and she says that not only was my dad in England and Wales but he said he was engaged while he was there. She remembers him showing her a picture, years later, of the fiancee he had in England and that she was dark haired and possibly wore glasses, but that is about all she can remember of that one time glimpse of the photo. It sounds like this is becoming more likely to be true the more I investigate from this side of 'the pond'. I'll let you know what else I find out. I hope this helps you feel better about what their relationship was at the time.

Cindy

It sounds A LOT like my dad. Let's just say that even after he came back from the war and married my mom he continued to be that kind of guy. My mom even got letters and phone calls from his lovers. He was quite a character and I loved him deeply even though we didn't have the same value system at all. He came from a rigid home with little to no love in it and although none of the other 3 brothers were as 'wandering eyed' as he was, they all were characters in thier own way. Only one is still living and lucid. I'll have to ask my unclw Cal, (Calvin Revis), if he knows if dad was ever in England. I know he was in France, and I believe they always went to England before hopping over to France. Just to let you know, Revis is how we spelled our name but it was Reavis till an illiterate ancestor in 1811 allowed a census taker to write it as Revis. We have traced the roots back to England in the 1600's. There is a book that a relative compiled and published about 10 years ago that you may want to try and get a copy of, if you are interested. I am interested in getting to know the half sibling that it appears I have, I don't know if it is you. My email address is cindy at liebergs dot com. By the way, my step mom is only ten years older than me and married my dad after I was married. I doubt he ever played around on her, she is a firey Chicago Italian! Of course, he was about 60 when they married, so he had slowed down anyhow! She and I get along very well and still stay in touch, even though he passed about 6 years ago. If you are taller than your siblings, it was most likely my dad. As I stated before, he was 6 ft 6-8 in depending on who you ask, and apparently the tallest US Veteran of WW II. I can imagine he would have been an easy target, that is one of the reasons he wasn't in the service till very late in the war.
My sister is slightly taller than our mom, who was 5 ft 4 in before starting to shrink! (She will be 83 next month). My brothers are all 6 ft and taller. I made it to 5 ft 8 in before I began shrinking!

Hoping to hear from you soon,

Cindy

PS. My dad was always a get rich quick kind of guy, but he basically never got rich and there was no inheritance for any of us.
My friend told me you had replied.

Well, the story on the adoption file tells of a 'love them and leave them' type to put it politely but possibly a character also.

We are looking for someone who was in the Devon area probably around March 1945 who left very soon after. Letters say he was around 26 in 1945 so possibly born around 1919.

My mother when young was very striking with deep blue eyes and very dark hair. She was very petite though as was her mother. She has very strong bone structure and has a possibly French/Spanish or Jewish look to her.

Does this ring any bells? Thanks, Julia

I need help determining ancestors of my great great grandmother, Sophia Revias(Revis?). She was born near Greenville,Il.5-5-1834 and married Christian Werly (Vehle) 8-31-1852. Does anyone have good helpful records from either Bond Co. or Fayette Co. in Il. that might help? Can anyone tell me who her parents were?
She and her husband moved to La Grange, Mo. and later to Canton,MO. where they died. She belonged to the German M.E. Church prior to joining the McKendree Church in 1889.
Family history said she was of Irish descent.I will appreciate any help. Note: also, there is an old photo of infant with surname O'Byrne.I don't know if that was a relative or not.
Thanks,
Cynthia Sizeler

Your reply is much appreciated. I see your point in the possible relationships. I believe you meant Louis may have been sibling of Mary? I am beginning to wonder if my Sophia was born in 1837, instead of 1834 as she claimed when wanting to marry & is daughter of Louis & Sophia, who married in 1836. This has been a tough line to determine, since records were not very good then. Where were S.Hunt & Louis Reavis Married? Was it also in Cooper Co?
The O'Bryant connection does also look like a potential clue to my finding the correct Reavis ancestors.

My father's name was Arthur Nelson Revis and was in Europe for a very short time at the end of WW II. He was 6 ft 8 in in height and flat footed. He was deemed too easy a target till late in the war! He told me he spent a couple of weeks as a truck driver in France. He obviously could easily have been stationed in England for a short period of time before that. He was the tall, dar and handsome type, too charismatic for his own good! Does this sound like the person you are looking for?
