Lydia Kendall daughter of Eli Rex, was born in Pennsylvania, Aug 25, 1820, and died in Ritchie County, WV, Sept 25, 1888. At the age of eighteen years she was married to Ransom Kendall. Soon after their marriage they both gave their hearts to God, and for nearly fifty years they were steadfast in the faith and were recognized pillars in the church of their choice. Father Kendall died Oct. 12, 1887. His last words were "Precious Jesus!" Hers were, 'Happy home!" In 1849 they moved to Ritchie Co., WV where they lived until the time of their death. Eleven of their children survive, ten of whom are members of the church, the writer a member of the Holston conference. The family altar was established when there were first converted, and strickly maintained during life. All the means of grace at their command were appropriated by them for the benefit of themselves and their children. Mother was a woman of great force of character and love for the right, and could never be persuaded to compromise with what she thought to be wrong. During her last sickness her pure Christian character shone so brightly that death was completely robbed of its terrors, and welcomed as the "gate to endless joys." Her physical sufferings, which at times were great, was borne without a murmur. It may well be said of her 'that she taught her children how to live, and showed them how to die." When the last hour was drawing near she summoned her friends and children who were present to her bedside, and bade them farewell, exhorting them to meet her in heaven: and while they sang to her, with her face all radiant with heavenly light, she kept repeating, 'Hapy home!" until her spirit took its flight to the land celestial. Farewell, dear Father and Mother until we meet in the better land.
signed. J. N. Kendall ( Jasper Newton Kendall. her son)

This was the obit in a 1887 WV newspaper found in my Gr. Gr.mothers scapebook. I copied it as it was written. Lydia Kendall was my Gr. gr. Grandmother.
