Hi Michelle,

I think we've shared info before. I'm pretty sure your line intersects with mine, but I'm not sure how.

Drusilla Rex Lounsbury was born in Philadelphia in March of 1846. She is the daughter of Christian Lounsbury. She married Benjamin Franklin Mecutchen. In 1910, she lived at 1516 W Susquehanna Ave in Phila.

I know she had a cousin, Mary Rex Simpson, who lived with her in Philadelphia at some point. I have an affadvit from Mary from March 15, 1910, age 54 years, when Drusilla was applying for Ben's pension. It says Mary lived at 2048 N Park Ave in Philadelphia.

I also have one from Drusilla R. Simpson on the same date, 78 years old, living at the same address.

It would make sense that your Drusilla and Mary are the ones who filled out the affadavits. I'm just not sure how they're related to my Drusilla. Family word of mouth says that Mary was a cousin who lived with her.

Unfortunately, I don't have any information on Drusilla's mother. Possibly, she was a sister to your Drusilla.

Hi,
I have info on Drusilla Rex, it's not my direct line but I've been working on the Rex line quite extensively.

She's a daughter of Willoughby M. Rex (Oct. 3, 1809 - Jun. 15, 1879) and Mary A. Lownsbury (b. abt 1803). Willoughby was a son of Jacob Rex and Mary Mayberry. Jacob was a grandson of the original Rex immigrant to America, Hans Jurg Ruger (Rex) and his wife Barbara.

Drusilla was b. abt 1835 and married George W. Simpson. I know they had at least 3 children: Mary M., William & George W.

What specifically are you looking for? Maybe I can help more.
Rex family of Rochester, IN

I am looking for information on this family, and specifically any records of a structure fire or other calamitous loss suffered by them (home or business) in the 1800's, probably in the Rochester area. Whatever this loss was, it was a substantial one, apparently resulting in at least one fatality. I need to establish a date for the fire (?), for further research into the incident. The journal of my relative, David Cooper, simply states that his wife's brother was the one who "died in the Rex property." I am assuming that this was a fire.
Hi,
I have a large database of the Rex family. You're almost positively connected to Hans Jurg Rex and Barbara (?) Rex who has 6 possibly 7 sons and lived in Germantown in Philly. Do you have any dates for your John Henry and Emma from the cemetery? I have a John H. Rex who married an Emily Harvey. John H. was born Sept. 18, 1870 in Whitpain, Montgomery Co. PA. He was a member of the house of representatives for PA. I know they had one son Robert Bertram but I don't have any other children listed.

Please contact me at artsmart47(at)yahoo(dot)com and we'll see if this is the same family.
Michelle

Hi,
I am a great niece to Emma Rex formerly Czichilski from the Chicago area. My great aunt married a man with the last name of Rex and had a child with him. The last census I have is 1920 in Cook County, Chicago. The family stories have her later on in California with two sons Lester and Edward. But not sure if their last names are Rex. Can't seem to locate them. Wondering if anyone out there would know about this? Thanks for any contributions.

I assume that Drusilla's mother was a Rex, however I have no records of her whatsoever. In 1850, I have a census record that lists no mother in the house. I am guessing that Drusilla's mother died between 1846 - 1850.

The affadavits I mentioned before state that in 1910 Drusilla (78 or 75 years old - which doesn't match up with her age in any other documents) and Mary R. Simpson (54 years old) were living together at 2048 N. Park Ave, Philadelphia. I can send you the documents. I would make sense that your Mary from the 1850 census was this person.

Along the lines of what you said, would it make sense that Mary Rex (1850 census: 3rd Ward Northern Liberties, Phila. Co., PA) was a Lounsbury and her mother was Drusilla Lounsbury (Drusilla Lownsberry, 87, F, PA) was the mother of Mary. Maybe Christian was Mary's brother and Drusilla's son, rather than Drusilla being Willoughby's mother.

Michelle,

Here's what I know:

Drusilla Rex Lounsbury, b 1846, married Benjamin Franklin Mecutchen 23 Sep 1869 in Philadelphia.

They had 2 children, May, b. 22 May 1883 and Christian d. 12 May 1875.

I have pension records for Ben that have an affadavit signed by Mary R. Simpson. I believe that Mary Rex Simpson was the daughter of George Simpson and Drusilla Rex (who was the daughter of Mary Lounsbury and Willoughby Rex)

Our family oral history says that Drusilla was the daughter of Christian Lounsbury. In 1850 there's a census record that has a 4 year old Drusilla living with Christian in Philadelphia.

I just can't seem to figure out how she's tied into the Rex family.
Hello everyone -

I'm a Rex descendant from Hans Jurg Ruger/Rex through his son Wilhelm and Margaretha Rupert. Does anyone know if he has a military service record? I've got Doris Schutte's article but she doesn't mention it. Do you know Margaretha's birth and death?

Then I continue to be related through their son William Rex and his wife Elisabeth Handwerk. I don't know where either was born and I would like to know more about him.

They had a son Georg Johann Rex who married Maria Magdalena Hunsicker that I have info on to share if any one needs it. However I list 4 children with a possible 3 more????

Their son Jacob Rex married Lydia Rex. That is her maiden name. They are long distance cousins. Their son Benjamen married Fianna Sauerwine and their son James Nathaniel becomes my great-grandfather.

The big question is, does anyone have photos they would share via e-mail?

Although I do not have the information you are seeking, I find it interesting that you mention Shelby, Ohio as I have had Gade relatives there for many years. Right now I am seeking information on my great-great grandfather, Lewis (I think) Gade, who came supposedly from Italy to New York. His son, Lewis Gade moved to Ohio around 1864; and the Gades have been there ever since (many of them anyway).

Hi Mandy,
Those names you mention are rather familiar to us, as the story of Hannah Lightfoot and George Rex is in our family as well. My grandmother's grandmother was Elizabeth Jane Martha Lightfoot who, or so it is told in our family, was the daughter of Hannah Lightfoot, who was married to George III. Though I am not completely sure that our EJM's father was that same man.
We do not know when or where she was born. All I know is that she married my grandmother's grandfather in South Africa in the 1890s and died in Pretoria in July 1967 aged 94.
Perhaps we could help each other?

Druscilla (87, in the 1850 census) wasn't Willoughby's mother. If it was, she would have been a Rex.

My best guess is that Christian is Mary's brother and they are children of Druscilla and (?) Lounsbury/Lownsbury. I don't have the father's name yet - maybe you do. I have a friend who has the St. Michael's church records, there were Rex records here. I can ask to see if there are any Lounsbury's there.

Did you ever happen to look for Christian's will? I'm just wondering if he left anything to his sister (Mary) if our guess is right.

Most of my Rex work has been in the Lehigh Co. Rex's and I've just peripherally kept track of the Philly Rex's. It would be interesting if there's a Rex daughter that's missing in this bunch.

So you're thinking there's 2 "Druscilla"'s? Mary R. Simpson (I have middle initial as "M", but that would be George Simpson and Druscilla's daughter.

See if this makes sense to you: Was your Druscilla's mother a Rex? Back then, middle names often came from the mother's maiden name. And, often siblings married into the same family. I wonder if Willoughby had a sister that married Christian? And if Christian was a brother to Mary, it would be possible that he'd name his daughter Druscilla too, because that was his mother's name. (see census info below).

Just supposition, but let me see if I can find any records to help.

1850 census: 3rd Ward Northern Liberties, Phila.

Hello,
I'm a Rex descendant as well, from Jacob and Lydia's line in fact. I've been working for years trying to find Lydia's parents with proof. I haven't had any definite luck yet. And actually, a cousin recently found a mention of a Lydia Bar(bar over a), (also known as Bear/Baer/Bahr) in Heidelberg Church's records on an LDS film. I haven't seen the citation yet but was told about it and am anxiously awaiting a copy so I can do more research. Before that, I had 3 sources stating Lydia's maiden name as Rex, Church burial, obit and her son's death certificate. So I'm very interested in corresponding with you and seeing what you know and how it compares.

Now to go back a few generations:
Wilhelm Rex, b. abt 1721 in Germantown, d. Feb 1776 Heidelberg Twp., Lehigh Co.
Margaretha Rupert, b. Nov. 25 1723, d. Aug. 24 1794; bur in Heidelberg Cemetery

Their son Wilhelm Jr. married Elisabeth (possibly Handwerk) but Elisabeth isn't listed in Johannes Handwerk's will and it's believed that she may have been a child from Johannes' wife before she married Johannes. I have more on this but have to dig it out. Haven't done much with it lately and actually another researcher had more than I did.

To go on, Johan Georg Rex m. Maria Magdalena Hunsicker. They had 7 known children with 2 more unknown (that I know of). 9 children according to Maria's tombstone. This Johan G. was a PA senator too which is cool (newspaper reference in Allentown Democrat but I haven't been able to find anymore about that yet).

I do have a ton of tombstone photos on the Rex and connected families and a lot of photos on Jacob & Lydia's family. I even have one of Jacob's son Lewis Albert who was in Civil War (I have his pension file) and his wife Sarah Strohl.

Some pics are posted on my website: itsmylifeonline.com
go to family tree, and then search one of the rex names or go into the cemetery or photo sections directly — but I have more to add.

Please email me back. I'm anxious to see how we connect.
Michelle

I have your line.

Drusilla was a daughter of Willoughby and Mary A (Lownsbury/Lounsbury) Rex. Willoughby is the son of Jacob and Mary (Mayberry) Rex. This was Jacob's second wife. His first wife was Elisabeth Van Buskirk which was another popular line in the Germantown area of Philly. Jacob is the son of Johan (John) and Sabella (Bastian) Rex. Johan was the son of Hans Jurg and Barbara (?) Rex.

You can see my Rex ancestry on my website at itsmylifeonline.com. Click on family tree, then either search for a name, or click on the surname and go to Rex's. There's various ways to access the database.

I'd love it if you contacted me and updated me with any info on your line. I've done a lot of work on the Rex line. I descend from Hans Jurg too. He had at least 6, possibly 7 sons (still gathering data on one). 3 of the sons stayed in the Philly area and 3 moved up to Lehigh Co. area. I descend from the 3 Lehigh Co. sons (all 3 in one way or another).

Michelle
