This appears to fit the information I have about my ancestor, although I have learned to spell his name Issac Rhine. Born 1813 in Germany, married Maria Hill deYoung; their daughter Adele is my mother's grandmother. I am eager for information on this family as my mother's father died young and we lost contact with that arm of the family

Re: Francis Marion Rhine, b. 23 Jun 1853, Guernsey, OH

I believe that Martha is Francis Marion Rhine's mother.

Although I can't find the marriage record for his parents, I had originally thought his mom's name was Mary Jane Starr. She seems to have gone by "Jane." But, I believe that Mary Starr married James Eagon and Martha Jane Starr married John Rhine.

In the index at the courthouse she was listed as Jane Ryan and it has been crossed out and written in Rhine. One wonders if the person who corrected this error was Thomas Elijah himself as he later contrated to do some of the woodworkRhine is the spelling on the original land papers for John Rhine. (see BLM)

"At October Term 1850 J.P. page 98
Elijah Ryan age 15 years and Jane Ryan age 13, children heirs of Jane Ryan did appear in open Court and chose Harrison Long for their Grardian - the Court approves of their choice." Bonds were then filed by John Stuart and John Engle. (the legal paper lists John Stuart, the census John Stewart - no John Engle in the 1850 census. Harrison Long is a lawyer)
Since I can't find Elijah or Jane together in any household, I believe that Martha Jane (the mom) was ill and living in the house with Francis and Rebecca Vore in Sept 1850 and the youngest two are farmed out with various relatives. Thomas Elijah appears to be in the Wareham house, next to Francis but listed as Elijah Elizabeth.
All this means is that she died in Sept or early Oct of 1850 and they went to Orphans Court in October. Eileen Rhine Lisick in her research thought that Jane had died at the same time as John Rhine in 1839.
I did not find will or estate reords for John Rhine.

I seem to have missed this posting before.
Francis Marion Rhine was the son of James Rhine b 16 Dec 1823, and Rebeca Vore b 15 Jul 1824
James Rhine was the son of John Rhine b Bet. 1780 - 1790 in NJ d 1839, wife Mary Jane Starr.
John Rhine is the original land owner with two sales in what is now Guernsey county, Ohio. There is very little background information on him. He is thought to have been from NJ or Ireland. His children were: James, Mary E, Nancy, Catherine'Kate', John W, William, Thomas Elijah, and Jane.
I am connected thru this line and continue to try to turn over stones.

This Rhine family goes back to about 1835 in Guernsey County (Southeastern) Ohio. As far as I can find out, this line of Huffs were also early into SE Ohio. I find no names connected with either line that seem to be Huff Rhine or Rhine Huff. I'll keep watch.
Faith

Hello faithrice1,
I was looking today for info on my family background. My name is Gary Dean Rhine, from Plymoth, Ohio. I saw in your posting from 4/14/2002, the name Porter Huff, a child of James T. Rhine.
My great grandfather's name was Huff Rhine, but I don't know for sure how his first name was spelled. I was only told that his name was "Huff", or possibly Hough.
My grandfather was James Henry Rhine, married to Madge Snyder. Could the Huff that wrote about be my great grandfather? Hope to hear from you.

big_gdr@yahoo.com

I do know that there are members of the Rhine family that are buried in a cemetery in Twigg Twp. in Hamilton County. This line is a direct connection to mine. Do you have the date and place of birth for your Thomas Rhine? At this time I am at a big disadvantage because we are away from my books, CD's, etc. and will be for about 2 more months. I wish I could be of more assistance, but cannot at present. You might try reminding me later about this when hopefully, I can help more.

As I recall Wallace worked for a newspaper in Fontana, so I was quite surprised that the paper never published an obituary for its long-time employee.

I'm afraid my connection to the Rhine family is very tenuous, so I don't have much information. Venita Teutsch married my wife's grandfather, Joseph Strange, in Joplin, Missouri in 1914 and they were divorced in 1918. They had a daughter, Anna Mary, in 1915. Joseph worked in the lead and zinc mines. Venita married Wallace Rhine sometime after 1920 and was enumerated as his wife in the 1930 census of Tulsa Oklahoma. Anna Mary was shown as his stepdaughter. Joseph, whose real surname was Shecora, returned to Pennsylvania, married in 1922 and worked as a blaster in the coal mines. I've tracked down Anna Mary Strange to let my mother-in-law know what happened to the half sister she never knew. While searching for her whereabouts after 1930, I accumulated some Rhine family data that I'd be happy to share if you have specific questions.

If you are a descendant of this line, please contact me. I am referring to the descendants of John RHINE and Hannah BARGER, who relocated from Tennessee to IL about 1821. The county was part of Gallatin County until Saline County was formed in 1847. Also, one of John Rhine's siblings was Mary Catherine RHINE and she married John William BARGER.
Please email me at: oldfogeys@bellsouth.net
Thank you,
Barbara Rhine Crain

Mary Ann - I have Abraham RYAN, not RHINE, as the spouse of Matilda Spurlock. I am a direct descendant of John RHINE and Hannah BARGER. As far as I have been able to determine, they are not brothers, but I do have a couple of siblings for John. Are you are descendant of this line? If you are, or if you know anyone who is, please contact me directly at:
oldfogeys@bellsouth.net
Thanks,
Barbara Rhine Crain

I am related to the Enoch Clary line. He was a cousin of my 3rd G-grandfather Washington Clary. I am trying to further compile all my ancestors and all of their siblings, etc, and Enoch and Washington (and the Rhines) all lived near each other in Millwood Twp. Faith- I got your email, but didn't get any pics, and wasn't able to reply..it bounced back several times. dholden12@comcast.net if I can help anyone with the Clary connection...
