Rhode in Ohio

My third-great grandfather was Herman Rohde. He was born in Germany (Schwerein, Mecklenburg) about 1847. He married Marie Elizabeth Ankert in Cuyahoga county in 1872, Ohio and had two children there before moving to Washington state and having eight more children. That is all the information I have concerning him; no birth date, no death date, no immigration date, no siblings nor parents.
The sponsers at the baptisms of his oldest children include Mary Haeuser, John Rohde, Carl Richter, Ludwig Rohde, and Johanna Rohde. If anyone can help me find the link between these people, I will be overjoyed.
Robert,
Hello, again. I have found records for Andrew KERSH and his service in the American Revolution, by using the DAR Patriot Lookup on the internet. His reference number is RXAGAPTK. I have also found, elsewhere, that he enlisted: 23 Jun 1777, in the 6th SC Regiment.
The DAR lists his death as 01 Oct 1800, and his spouse as, Eva Margaret GISLAR. There is no charge from the DAR for this service.
Patricia

The Mante parents are buried in Niagara County, NY. I've been trying to figure out where "my" Mante's came from originally - - and now I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps their name wasn't mangled somewhere in immigration and they used to be something else?

I just learned that my great Grandmother,Wilhelmina Rhode had a sister or a sister in law, Augusta Rhodein Brooklyn, NY. All the Rhodes were from Germany, probably Prussia, not sure yet. There was also a Herman Rhode in the family. We think Herman may have been Wilhermina's brother and Augusta's brother or husband. Other surnames in that family are Stebner, Mante, and Breitenbach. Ring any bells?

Did you Henry Herman Rhode have any sisters? I'm searching a Herman Rhode in Brooklyn, NY from Germany, probably Prussia around the time you mentioned. Other Rhode names who later settled in NY are Wilhelmina, Gussie(Augusta), and surnames Breitenbach,Stebner, and Minnie Mante. Ring any bells?

Your message to me: I messed up on that. Your Wilhemina may be a neice rather than a sister to my Frederick. Sorry about that. Frederick had a brother, John F., who was married to a Sophia. They too, came to America.
Hope I have not confused you too much.

JoAnn
purltwo@aol.com
JoAnn: I'm not too confused at all. My Wilhelmina was married to Frederick Breitenbach, who had a brother named Johann (John) who also came to America. I don't know who his wife was. I understand, when my Greatgrandfather Breitenbach died in the 1930's that his obituary said he was survived by a sister in Law, Mrs. Schmann. I can't imagine what her first name may have been.
Celia Ann Rhode

I am hoping to find some Rhode researcher who has an extensive family tree that shows the decendants of Celia Ann Rhode who was born in 1831 in Jackson County, Mississippi. I believe that she is my gg grandmother. I am almost convinced that Celia's daughter, Mary Leah Ward, who married Thomas White Rucker and lived with him in Lavaca County, Texas, had--in addition to her son Marcus Rucker, her daughter Mary, and her daughter Ceclia Eugina, yet one more daughter -- my grandmother, Bertha Rucker. Please help me if you can. If you can't varify the existence of this other child, write to me anyway and we can compare notes. My email address is westrich@mchsi.com

Ah, Patricia, so here you are on the Rhode message board. I just ran across you on the Ward board, and just wrote you a lengthy email, so feel as if this is old home week. I thought that if I could find someone on this board who has a comprehensive family tree with all descendants of Celia Ann Rhode, I might track my grandmother, Bertha Rucker, daughter (I hope) of Mary Leah Ward who was, in turn, the daughter of Celia Ann Rhode. Nice to find you here and I earnestly hope that I hear from you soon. LoLo at westrich@mchsi.com.

She has not yet responded to my messages. It is possible than Wilhermenia decided to go through life using her middle, as did my mother. Please contact me with further information and questions.
I've replied to you before but now I know a bit more. My Great-greatgrandmother's name in Wloclawek, Prussia was Caroline Mantey (Polish records spelled it that way) b.1829 to Jacob Mantey and Elizabeth Kitzman. I don't understand the name of the city where she was born. She married Johann Karl Breitenbach and gave birth to my Greatgrandfather, Frederick Breitenbach in 1867, Worclawek, Purssia. He arrived in the US with wife Wilhelmine (nee/Rhode) in 1895. Thereafter, they help others come to the US including Fred and Minnie Mante -- or maybe just Fred who met and married Minnie here -- nevertheless, rumor has it they all spoke German. Another part of the group was Julius Stebner. Does this mean anything to you?

I may have contacted you in the past, I'm not sure. Did the Auguste Rhode in your family, have a brother or husband named Herman or Hermann? My Great-grandmother, Wilhelmine Rhode had a sister or sister-in-law named Gussie. Could this Gussie have been your Great-grandmother? The Rhodes were in the NYarea, probably, Brooklyn in 1910. If Auguste Rhode is her married name, she'd have been Herman's wife. Herman was my Great-grand uncle by blood.
I am in search of the Rhode line that has been in Wisconsin and later Minnesota for the past few generations. Robert Rhode's parents and prior as well as any pictures, stories, and general history or contacts of living relatives would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
