I don't know for sure if we are related -- My dad was Michael Ribaudo, one of 5 sons (Nick, Sal, Pete, Michael & Jack) and 3 daughters (Connie, Sara & Rose) of Benedetto Ribaudo & Mariana Bonsignore Ribaudo. I clearly remember a great-aunt by the name of Lena and an uncle "Ross" who used to offer us anisette when we visited them in Hoboken. My dad's family also lived in Hoboken (on Willow Street, I believe)

Hello,
Just looking for connections to my husband's Ribaudo family. I have just posted pictures of I believe an Ignazio Ribaudo and Margarite from Garfield Bergen NJ. The reason I have them is that my husband's mother, Marcia Giunta (nee Ribaudo) used to visit her 'cousins' in NJ when they were young, (teen-agers, etc.) Marcia had sisters named Sebastiana (Bessie) Gracie and Catherine, with brothers Anthony and George. Her father was Antonino Ribaudo born in 1886 and died in 1955 and I believe came to America when he was 13 then came back at age 21 to stay in St. Louis, MO. Antonino's father was Georgio Ribaudo and his mother was Sebastiana Musso or Mussio.

What I was wondering was I'm not sure whether Ignazio was Antonino's cousin or brother? My family tree on ancestry.com is Dodds family tree and my email is aagrannyinsky@yahoo.com. Please write so we can compare notes and maybe share some pictures. I have a few postcards sent back and forth from both St. Louis and Garfield, NJ where they also visited Cape May? Hard to tell since they glued them into a book. But I have some of the writing.

Thanks
Brenda Giunta

I don't know if you're still on Ancestry, but my husband's mother Marcia Ribaudo(daughter of Antonino Ribaudo) of St. Louis, had sisters Sebastiana (Bessie) Grace, Catherine, and brothers, Anthony and George Ribaudo. They all used to visit 'cousins' in Garfield, Bergen, NJ. I have just posted pictures of some of the people in my tree. I want to know if Ignazio Ribaudo (1875) is a brother to Antonino?
My family tree in Ancestry is Dodds Family Tree and my email is aagrannyinsky@yahoo.com. My name is Brenda Giunta. My husband's family also includes lots of Chinnici's and Santangelo's. Please help me with this puzzle. I also have scanned but not posted lots of old postcards from that area sent to each other from the cousins. Mostly they wrote to Nancy Ribaudo.

Hi, I am trying to find info on Gaetano Ribaudo who married Audenzia Guarneri. I know Audenzia was from Roccamena. From what I have been told they had 5 boys who all died in Sicily. They came to the United States and settled in Louisiana. I would appreciate any help you could give me.
Audenzia was born around 1870 and Gaetano was born around 1866.
Thanks

And this is indeed so exciting for me.

But I should tell you a little about the family history of the Arthur you speak of--he was my grandfather, not my father. And my family would likely prefer I don't discuss it on a message board.
Hello!

I'm so grateful to make a connection in this family! So Arthur was your father? His sister, your aunt, Marian married a Lehmann. Do you have any pictures? Your father never spoke of his father? The Daily journal in Vineland, NJ wrote an obit for Marian, Arthurs sister. It said she was born in New York and her mothers name was Catherine Calantria and fathers name was William D'Italia. In the 1930 census Catherine says she married for the first time at age 15 which is around 1909, to William. I found Williams 1917-18 draft card which gave his birthday of 8/3/1884 in Italy. I havent been able to find out much about the D'Italias or the Ribardos. I could use any info you might have on Arthur, date of birth, death, marriage, children. You missed your Aunt Marian by only a few years, she passed in 2006. I remember my husband always talking about Uncle Artie from North Jersey. He says he doesnt remember him well now. Do you have brother and sisters? Let me know. If you would like to call me that would be great! 609-501-7715 is my cell#. I would love to talk to you.

God Bless,
Lynda Ribardo

I don't have information about him, but I am also interested in the family line! My father is Arthur D'Italia, Jr. His father was the stepson of Catherine Calandrio. He appears in the 1930 census and not much else. I cannot find anything on Catherine or her father Anthony except for that census. Do you have anything?

Have you searched the Ellis Island records for Ribardo? It said he came over in 1895. If you could read the address, I also think it said he owned the house.

Good luck and if you know anything about Catherine, please let me know!

David,
Since I first posted to you in 2001, I had a cousin who went to the hall of records in Baucina and found the "big book" with the handwritten census going back another couple of centuries. She literally sat in the office for 2 days until they let her see it. I do not have my info in front of me, but if you get this message and want to know more, just let me know.
Hi! Thanks for your post. My maternal grandmother's sister, Carolina Cuccia (Aunt Katie, as I remember her) married a Perniciaro. I cant recall his first name right now but can find out (I think it was Sam?). He was a butcher in NYC. My maternal grandmother and her family came from Baucina, Sicily. That town is right near Mezzojuso. Katie and her husband had one son, Augustine. They called him Augie. I believe he shortened his name to Pernice. Augie married Mary Sharp and they had 4 children, 2 girls and then yrs later, 2 boys. Is any of this ringing a bell? Concerning Gaetano Ribaudo - I do not recall any first names of Gaetano in my family, however, my maternal grandfather's sister, married a Ribaudo. It has been so long since I have done my research, I need to check my book for specifics because my maternal grandparents were first cousins so they both had the last name of Cuccia. Let me know if any of this is making sense.

My grandfather is Ignazio Ribaudo and my grandmother is Margarita (Benigno) Ribaudo. They lived in Brooklyn and moved to Garfield (had a chicken farm). There were 12 in my father's family. My father had brothers John (the oldest), Louis, Tony (Anthony), Ben, Joe, Wally, Ed, and sisters Veronica and Nancy. My mind escapes me with names right now but he had two other brothers. My father is the only living son of Ignatzio and Margarita Ribaudo and they came from Sicily but what city I am not sure as my Aunt Veronica said it was called "Beautiful MOuntain". My father, Pete was born here in the United States. My father's name is Peter and he is 91 years old. You most definitely are related to me. You have many cousins here in the states. So please correspond when you can. - Kind regards - Ramona (Ribaudo) Dooley

Hi my name is Lynda Jones-Ribardo!

I have been trying to research my husbands family for many years and I have been stuck on his grandfather, Phillip Ribardo. The only problem is this guy disappears after the 1930 census and was around before then! Then the census says he has a child, named Josie, born in NJ but I searched for days in Trenton Archives and she is not there and there is no record of his death either! Phillip married Kate (Catherine Calandrio, 2nd marr) and had 2 boys, Vincent and Anthony Ribardo in the 1920's in Garfield, NJ. Phillip and Kate both had children from previous marriages. Anthony is my husbands father, and he too is Anthony, along with my son Antonio Vincenzo, and his son (my new grandson) Antonio Vincenzo, Jr. Kate had a feather factory that did costumes for the plays in NYC. Her first marriage was to William D'Italia and 3rd was to Wm Rhode. Do these people sound familiar to ANYONE out there? Let me know, I cant wait to figure out this mystery!

Hi,
I have put my genealogy books down for sometime now but my uncle (he would be in his 80's at this point) John Cuccia, used to hang out with a Jack Ribaudo in NYC in the 40's. I met his wife (I cannot remember her name) one time at a St. Joseph's dinner in Lodi, NJ and it was shortly after he had died and she was unable to talk about him but I showed her a picture I had of the 4 of them in a NYC nightclub and I thought she was going to cry right there so I didnt want to push it.

I have visited Sicily and my mothers family, Cuccia, was from Baucina, Sicily and my mother had cousins that were from Villa Frati (Oliveri family- my mother's grandmother's family name). I believe the Ribaudo family was from that side also. I dont know if these names and places sound familiar. Thanks for contacting me - her name was Rose Ribaudo - Jack's wife. Let me know.
Fran Mason

In reply to Josie Conty, looking for Margarita or her father Francesco.

Sorry, the name Margarita isn't familiar to me. The name Francesco--I believe my grandmother, Paola Ribaudo, had a brother Francesco. She had many brothers. She gave that name to one of her sons, as well. If you have a chance, and haven't already done so, I recommend visiting the town hall in Villa Frati. Perhaps Cefalu Diana has one as well, or Bolognetta. I found reading the town records very helpful.

I am looking for any connection to Margarita Ribaudo from the early 19th century or a Francesco Ribaudo her father.
I don't know if we are related, but my family is also from Palermo. The spelling of my Rivaldo anscestors was originally Ribaudo. A distant "cousin" gave me the following information: Paolo Ribaudo 1650- married someone named Anna. Their son was Michelangeo Rivaldo (here the spelling changes.) The family eventually emmigrated and settled in the Chicago area.

Mr. Ribaudo my name is Vincent Ribaudo, you had sent a message to my wife who is only a Ribaudo by marraige. We may be related but I think it would have to be back to Palermo. My father Vincenzo came to this country around 1902 or 1903. He was one year old at the time. He was born in Palermo but where exactly I don't know or have been able to find any information. He had a brother Salvatore, a sister Rose and a sister Anna. I have not been able to trace the family to any port of entry as they do not appear on the Ellis Island listing. My father passed away in 1960 before his 59th birthday from leukemia. I don't know whether you have any knowledge of family information from Italy but maybe you can trace some iformation to show some relationship.

Talk to you again

Dear Anna,

My name is Don Kinsman and I live in Ft. Thomas, KY. I have no Italian ancestry, but my wife does and may posssibly be related to you in some fashion. I am responding rather than her because I do the family history.

My wife's maiden name was Dottie Ribando, but the "Ribando" was only adopted early in the 20th Century. The family name was originally Ribaudo until her aunt Lucy changed it to Ribando for reasons no one knows.

Her father, William Ribando (Ribaudo) was born in Williamsport, PA in 1908. He had one older and one younger sister. Their father, who died in 1912, was Sylvester Ribaudo and he was born in Mistretta, Sicily, Italy in 1863. He must have come to the US around the turn of the century, but we do not know exactly when.

Sylvester's father was Domenico Ribaudo and so far as is known he never came to the US. We do not know his mother's name.

Sylvester Ribaudo's wife was Antonia Lipari and she was born in Morte di Affirmi, Italy in 1879. We do not know her father's Christian name. Her mother's name was Ignazia Bevalacque.

Dottie's father died last year a bit short of 91. Dottie says when she was young he said he was unaware of relatives still living in Sicily except for an elderly uncle he called "Ross," though I suspect that was a nickname. As he was only 4 when his father died I suppose it is not unreasonable that he did not know much about other relatives still in Italy. Dottie could not learn much from her grandmother as Antonia never learned to speak English and Dottie never learned Italian.

I don't know if there is enough in here for you to make any connection between the families, but it is all I have. Perhaps Ribaudo was not an uncommon name in Sicily. I simply do not know, but the Mistretta link is intriguing.

Yours truly,

Don Kinsman

My grandmother was Paola (Paolina) Ribaudo. I found her name in the town hall registry of Villa Frati. She had many brothers, but I did not record their names. They all emigrated (but one) around the turn of the century, to New York. Probably because of my stern grandfather, we never had contact with any of her family.

I would love to know my cousins. I met a Paul Ribaudo in Seattle, working at the Boeing Company in the late '80's. He grew up in Brooklyn. He was going to ask his parents for information, but he never got back to me, we lost touch.

Question: where is cefala diana? Is it right near Villa Frati, where there is an old hot spring? I found another reference to some Ribaudo's from there, wondering if they are part of the clan.

The family that Mike is looking for, I believe being my grandfather, is a different name parent's wise. Humberto, who was born in 1900, father was Philip and his mother was Mary although both would have been the Italian version. I am not a geneology person but I have been told thru the years that the Ribaudo's were orininally French and the spelling was Ribaudeux. I have also been told that Ribaudo is a fairly common Sicilian name.

hey, sorry it took me so long to reply. I noticed all the surnames in your list and we have to be related in some way because I have about 5 of them in mine and I have a cousin whose father (our mothers were sisters) family have canninsaro surnames. My great grandparents (maternal side) were: Ninfa Oliveri Cuccia married to Giovanni Cuccia (my grandmother's parents) and Guiseppa LoCasio Cuccia married to Francesco Cuccia (my grandfather's parents). Yes, my grandparents were cousins. They all came from Baucina. We believe (based on Papanomy structure - how they name their children) that Giovanni and Francesco's parents names were Salvatore and Maria. They would have lived in the mid 1800's since we know that Giovanni and Francesco were born in the mid to late (1860's to 1880's) century. We know that they had a sister, Concetta Cuccia Manfre but do not know of any Antonino's or Anthoiny derivatives. Where have you been searching? I have visited Baucina but did not know that the hall of records only opens on a wednesday. email me directly: franfan1@aol.com. Thanks! Their daughter married a man whose grandmother was a Ribaudo.
What are the dates of the people you mentioned? There are records to 1903 from Baucina.

David Salvia

Ribaudo from San Marco d'Alunzio

In researching the Giammo / Giambo families from the area of San Marco d'Alunzio in Messina Province, I've run across a number of Ribaudo families in the 18th and 19th centuries. That San Marco is on the north shore, about 100km west of the city of Messina.

If anyone is interested, I'd be willing to swap data on Ribaudos from that area.

Tom Giammo

Hello Josie,

My ggg-grandmother Maria Ribaudo (b. approx 1780-1787) had a daughter Francesca Urso Pernice born in July 1810 in Fitalia. Francesca was married Filippo Guiseppe Ignazio Dispenza (b. Fitalia July 1805) in Mezzojuso in the end of 1832.

Unfortunately she is the only Ribaudo in my Mezzojuso (Fitalia) records, though I have a few in my Ficarazzi records.

Hope to hear from you.

David Salvia

I am not sure exactly where they were from. I am going to try and get information from the social security admin. on his application. When I get this information back I will post an update. It would be so great to find family. Happy Holidays and God Bless You.
