My g-grandfather Pierre Ricard (1854-1928) was the son of Joseph (or Jean) Athanase and Dell Marguerite Trudeau … so the brother of your g-grandfather Athanase. Pierre was born in St. Michel, Napierville, Quebec – although I’ve seen/heard family references to Coaticook. In late 1800s, he and much of the family migrated to Toledo, Ohio area. I show Domitille Isabelle married on April 1, 1863 to Sollem Athanase Ricard (Oct. 28, 1838-Sept. 1907), with children listed as Arthur Ricard, Mrs. J.E. McGinnis and Mrs. E. Gilchrist Ricard.

Hope that's helpful and welcome further exchanges.

My GGfather was Athanase Ricard, son of Athanase Ricard born Jan 6, 1806, Died Feb 14 1884, married to Dell Marguerite Treudeau, born Nov 17, 1810, died Sept 24, 1891. His sister was Adelaide, born 9/8/1848, Died 10/23/1871. I have just come into copies of the family groups from my uncle. My grandfather was Arthur Philias Ricard, born in St Jean Chrysostome, Quebec. He had received family genealogy from his cousin Arthur Ricard of Sioux City Iowa, at that time the owner of the Natural Wood Inlaid Frames. Does any of tis sound familiar to you?
I have in my ancestry a Pierre Ricard son of Jean Athanese Ricard married to Dell Marguerite Trudeau. Pierre was born 5/21/1854 and was the 14th child. My grandfather was Arthur Philias Ricard born Jan 8, 1865 at St Jean Chrysostome, Quebec. My great grandfather was Athanese (nmi) Ricard married to Domitilde Izabelle. I appears that we are distant cousins. Does any of this come up in your search?

Louis Layton Ricard was born 25 Dec 1878; baptized @ Holy Family Catholic Church, Port Allen, LA 16 Mar 1879. He died 25 Dec 1957 buried Immaculated Heart of Mary, Maringouin, LA. I only have entries that end in the early 1900's from census records. Louis Layton's grandfather Louis Raymond Ricard was the first black sheriff of West Baton Rouge Parish during reconstruction. I'll ask...it is not uncommon for descendants of free people of color to pass for white.

Hi Jackie, my name is Janet Ricard, I am very active on ancestry.com, just did'nt know how to work the boards. Have been a member for many years, researching the Ricard family.
My ex-husband Charles Ricard is son of Fred Laton Ricard, son
of Louis Laton Ricard, son of Louis Raymond Ricard and Hermina Lacour. If you look at the 1880 census under Ramond or Ermina Ricard you will see Lytton age 1 born 1879. The name should be Laton. That's Louis Laton. Charles Ricard's grandfather, my children's g.grandfather. They know not one family member on the Ricard side of the family. Does anyone know any of Fred Ricard's siblings? Three sisters I know passed for white.

According to the census records Arthur and Valsin were brothers. They were a part of a laarge family. I only met one of the sisters . We called her Aunt Pearl. I only wish I had known to question her about the family. My dad said that we had no relatives. I do have a possible grave site for the senior Valsin , but I know little other than that.
Hello,
I am a descendant of the Despinasse family, my grandfather
Arthur Despinasse. We are probably distanty related and am trying to connect if possible. My contact: Linda Sanders
linda@goldmanenterprizes.org

Wow, looks like Septima Despinasse was my great aunt, right?
Wasn't she Arthur Bartholemew's sister? This is the 1st connection for Despinasse for me too. My Mom Hermenia Despinasse-Arthur's daughter was born in S.F. Ca. and her Mom Eloise Goldman then (Despinasse) moved to Seattle Wa. in the 40's or so. She tried in vain in the 70's to locate Despinasse's in Louisianna, as my Dad's from New Orleans (Sanders)but of course most were deceased at that time.I see quite a few other younger descendants of Despinasse's in Calif.Florida etc. and I may try and contact as they give phone #'s. My older brother Jerome Arthur knew Arthur, but I wasn't born yet-just a most distinguishing picture. Really nice meeting you:) Linda

Charles Ricard of Louisiana - African American/Creole

Hi,

My name is Leslie Ricardo. I am a descendant of Charles Ricard. My father's name is Lionel Ricardo b 1939. His last name should be Ricard, but there was a typo on his birth certificate that was never corrected. My grandfather's name was Raymond Ricard, Sr b 1909. He had siblings named Charles, Mildred, Clementine, and Lezzmar. My great grandfather's name was Charles Ricard, Jr born about 1879. My great great grandfather was named Charles Ricard born about 1850. I am trying to determine the names of my great great grandfather's parents. In July 2005, the Charles Ricard family reunion was held in Gonzales, LA. The family did not have information about the parents of my great great grandfather. My intent is to make the connection between the Charles Ricard family and the information posted on the Ricard Family of North America website. If you have any information, please contact me at lesliericardo@yahoo.com.

Thanks,
Leslie

Hello Michelle,
My husband is a son of Albert Frank Ricard, Jr. (b. 1922 in Pointe Coupee, LA d. 1997), son of Albert Francois Ricard and Ann Colombo. They had 14 children, one of whom was also George (Trevor) who moved to CA from Louisiana.

At one time I had the names of all ancestors of Albert Francois back to Antoine de Rieutord Ricard and the slave Marianne, but no longer have that available (lost in Hurricane Katrina).
The following is a reply I sent to Victor back in 2004:
I was recently in Louisiana to attend my grandfather's funeral. He was Charles L. Ricard, son of a Cyprian(Harriet Collins)Ricard of West Baton Rouge Parish. I don't know the total number of children they had, but I do have some of the names. They were Raymonde Chustz, Clemence Patin, Olga Malveaux, Gladys Ricard, some or all of the sisters. Then some or all of the brothers were Frank, Lionel, Stanislaus, Anthony and Stanley. If any of these are kin to you, contact me at perrywms67@hotmail.com. I'd like to get more info on his relatives as well. Hope this will help you.

You haven't heard from him because he died in 2006. His half-sister recently wrote me with that information. Please let me know if any of these names are familiar to you or any of your older relatives.
Hi Sheila, this is Jackie Ricard. I see that Aunt Francis, you and I are the only active "Ricards" on here right now. Sheila, where do you live? I was just wondering because for a short time I was trying to map out the dispersal of the Ricard family. My father-in-law told me that he believed that we come from Canada to Louisiana and settled. From Louisiana, I see that the family is still heavily concentrated in and around the area. There are also many Ricards in the northeast around NY and NJ, but I don't think they are of the same line. Write back soon!
