Surnames: Luce, Ricker, Leighton
In researching my family history I found a hand written note from my grandfather, Fred A. Luce who married Thera Frances Leighton on October 5, 1898 at Haverhill, MA, whose father was named Walter Scott Leighton and her mother was Lydia Kelsey. The note indicated that her father's real name was Walter Scott Ricker and he was a deserter of the Civil War from Portsmouth, NH whose people lived at New Durham, NH. He and a dear friend by the name of Norman Allen went far into the woods of Maine and hunted, trapped, and fished until the war was over.
In another note he described that when he married Thera they went off on their wedding trip to New Durham, NH to the home of Leslie W. Ricker, her cousin the depot master.
So I have been looking at the Leighton line when it appears I should have been looking at the Ricker line. My question is, can you help me unravel this mystery?
Any help appreciated
