Classification: Bible
Surnames: Ricketts, Miller, Cook, Jenkins, Lee
My ancient mother has just decided to give me an old Ricketts Bible I had forgotten existed. I'm actually working on my Miller ancestors (whew, a large crowd) but my great grandfather, Finis A. Miller, married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Elgin Ricketts, b. 1861, in 1883. They lived in Avenue City, Andrew County, MO. The Bible was in her family and came with her.
Without destroying the Bible (it's in bad shape) I've managed to scan the four family records pages in order to enlarge and manipulate them on the computer so I can read them better. I have four files in jpg format I'd be happy to share with anyone who wants them.
Email me directly at Mr2sheds@aol.com please if you want the images.
Caution: each file is 280-400 kb in size, in order to maintain high quality. They are very high quality. But realize that if you have a dialup connection you are looking at a 2Mb zip file to download. I can easily make a smaller file, but quality will be lost.
There are numerous birth dates, some death dates, a couple of marriages. It looks to me like several different people entered the information at different times, but not as the events happened. Entire families of births are obviously entered all at once -- a rainy day activity perhaps. A fair number of middle names such as Compton and Clark make these lists interesting. The handwriting is not modern handwriting except for a couple of small emendations by my mother at some point in the 1970s.
I also have a transcription, made by me, in Word 97 format, if anyone wants it with or instead of the Bible images.
What I am lacking is the parents of the children, where these events took place (no locales given) and how these families fit into the larger Ricketts line(s). A lot of them don't show up in searches of sites such as this one.
Anthony Ricketts death is recorded in this Bible on February 4, 1793, and his wife, Mary, in November, 1803.
Who can help me with the birthplaces, domiciles, travels, and parents of some of these Ricketts
