The only documents "I" have on the Ricks side is a marriage certificate for my Christopher C Ricks & Catherine Howard; an 1850 cencus from Lincoln Co. Missouri with a BUNCH of Ricks on it;several Family Group Sheets I got from Leslie Stryker in WA; Rose Etta's Death Certificate and an 1870 Census from Elk Horn CA with J.C. Ricks m. to Eliza with their children listed.
That's all I have, but you and I discovered we are decendants from two siblings, Ruth & John.

Cindy :)

Cindy ,
I did find your tree & could not find a connection to my Ricks family. Looks like our Ricks came from different areas mine came from NC to Trigg County Ky. I even checked the names in your tree to see if anyone has one of my family names as they love to pass those names down over & over no luck there either. We descend from Isaac Ricks who was awarded a land grant in Kentucky as he gave up this life during the Revolutionary War. He was a Quaker & went into battle unarmed as per his religion. We may be related further back than either of us have. Have you ever checked Quaker records to see if one of your ancestor was a Quaker?
thanks
Mona

Hi Cindy:
As a matter of interest Johann Christopher Reix was still useing that name at the time of his death as his will and probate is entered under Christopher Reix as was the name he used when he and Dinah married.

Clearly by the time Dinah and her children arrived in Nelson Co., KY they were useing Ricks, but I don't think he ever went by John Christopher Ricks, though some record takers did lidt it as Ricks. Maybe they wrote what they heard.

I am decended from their dauther Ruth.
Tom Jones
Tom Jones

Yes the marriage date is 12 Jan 1768. Yes, Ruth is their child who later married Josiah Crawford.

Some people have been posting that Johann was born in Old Swedes, DL, which as we both know is not correct.
Hi again:
I don't know who Charity is either.
Let me back up, I am related to the Ricks through my grandmother Nora Pierson Jones, whose grandmother was Ruth Crawford, whose mother was Ruth Ricks, whose father was Johann C. Reix. It appears that the family named was changed to Ricks about the time they moved to Nelson Co., KY after Johann's death. He was still useing Reix at the time of his death in his will when he died in 1784. I do not know why Dinah and her children moved to KY after his death.

The point I was trying to clear up was that Johann was not born in Delaware. He and Dinah were married in "Old Swedes" church and I did get a copy of the record from the church in 2002.

Does that help?
Tom Jones

Charity stayed in ky & married a cousin Jonathan Ricks.
What I found in my files so far on John Christopher Ricks is this...
John Christopher b. abt 1740 m. Dinah Hayes b. abt 1737 in Wilmington Delaware
John d.3 May 1774 or 1784 in East Fallowfield, Chester PA

Dinah d. 12 Jul 1796 in Nelson KY (Cox Creek)

Children:
Thomas
John
Ruth
Elizabeth
Mary (Polly)
Jane

I have childrens birth/death dates & places if you need them.
I received this information from a Leslie Stryker in Kennewick WA. If you would like her contact info to see if she has more info, I would be happy to give it to you.
There was a lot of information on the Ricks family in a book called "History & Genealogy of the Christopher Rics Family and other lines" by Howard Ricks of Salt Lake City UT. I just have copies of 3 pages of that book that someone gave me.
What was John Christopher Ricks involvement in the military that gives your Mother-n-law her membership in the DAR? I don't quite understand what the DAR is all about. Who actually IS your mother-n-law??

Hi Kara,

I'll have to look through my Ricks file to see if I have copies of any of the John Christopher records. I'm not aware that I have a copy of his will, but possibly, his marriage certificate. I have all the Ricks listed in my family tree on Ancestry. It's listed on Ancestry as "Martin Family Tree" if you want to look at all the Ricks I have listed. There's a lot on there! Do you have any pictures of the Ricks ancestors? I don't have any. My Great Grandmother was Rose Etta Ricks. I do have a picture of her, but that's the only Ricks picture I have. I haven't found anyone with Ricks pics yet. She was the daughter of Christpher C Ricks. I would be happy to share whatever I have!

I added all my Ricks this morning. I don't know how to send you a link to my tree on Ancestry though? I don't believe mine is private on Ancestry though, so you might be able to pull it up. It's just called "Martin Family Tree" and it would have my user name "LorenzGen" as the author of the tree. Maybe you could find it that way.
I put all my Ricks and their children in the tree, but did not take the time yet to add the children's spouses and THEIR children. Sorry. Maybe that's where the connection comes in somewhere.
Cindy :)

Click on "Search" at the top of the page; then click "Public Member Trees". When the search page comes up, just type the first/middle (Rose Etta) name then the last name (Ricks) and hit search at the bottom of that page. The first listing that comes up is my tree. (just click on "Martin Family Tree" and it's all in there through Rose Etta Ricks)
Rose Etta was the daughter of Christopher C Ricks & Catherine Howard.
Christopher C Ricks was the son of James Crenshaw Ricks.
James Crenshaw was the son of Thomas Ricks.
Thomas was the son of John Ricks.
John was the son of YOUR John Christopher Ricks & Dinah Hayes. I think that is as far back as I have on the Ricks side.
If you have any info. to share...stories; pics; etc., I would love to hear about it!
I'll sift throug my Ricks files to see what I might have documentation wise and let you know.
Thanks!
Cindy :)

I took a peak at your tree. I see Johnathan Ricks married Charity Ricks, but the Johnathan in your tree has a middle initial as "L". You posted here John "Christopher" Ricks as being maried to a Charity Ricks here on the message board so I'm a little confused. :)

I do not see any of your Ricks in my line. It's possible they cross SOMEwhere, but not sure. I will add my Ricks line to my ancestry tree and then send you an invitation to look at it. Maybe you can see if it looks familiar anywhere.
It looks like most of my Ricks families come from:
NC; Nelson KY; Perry IN; Sedalia MO; & Lincoln MO

Thanks,
Cindy :)

Hi Tom... I didn't have that Johnathan Christopher Ricks was "born" in Wilmington Delaware, I had he was married there on 12 Jan 1768. Is that incorrect? As I mentioned, I received information from another source and have not yet verified the information.
I do show Ruth Ricks as a daughter of John & Dinah, correct?

Im not sure this will still be appropriate its been a long time but llewelyn Deane was the son of John Gilmore Deane one of the original surveyors of the Northeastern boundary, a War of 1812 commander, born 1875 in Massachusetts and the County Attorney of Hancock County Maine in 1829. Llewelyn was in Washington trying to settle his father's accounts with Maine, Massachusetts and the United States Government over property that was to be given John for services rendered in the 1830's relating to the Northern Boundary dispute but located north of the St Francis River. He was staying at the Chandler House in 1880 and the census says Louise was from Ohio.

Martha Ricks- Daughter of Isaac(Died 1748) and wife Sarah Ricks

I am searching for Martha Ricks, daughter of Isaac Ricks and Sarah. Isaac Ricks' Will 1748 in Edgecombe County, NC lists his daughter Martha Ricks. I found Martha Ricks because I am searching all the Witnesses on some of the Strickland Deeds. A brief summary of my Strickland Line:William Strickland, Sr. died in Bertie County 1728. Some of the Stricklands also had connections with the Exums in Bertie County.

William Strickland ,Sr.’s son, also named William, was in Edgecombe County and Isaac Ricks was a witness on several deeds in that area with William Strickland, Jr.

William Strickland, Jr. married Martha Brown and they had a son named Abraham and this Abraham (born around 1740) married around 1765 a "Martha Unknown Last Name".

William Strickland, Jr. had many connections to the McKinney and the Brown families in the same area as Isaac Ricks. Abraham Strickland and family later show up in Bladen and Robeson County, NC. Some of Abraham’s children move onto South Georgia.

So, I am searching for the "Martha" wife of Abraham Strickland that was in Edgecombe, Bladen, and Robeson County, NC

Does anyone have any records or reference about Martha Ricks (daughter of Isaac and Sarah), her approximate Date of Birth and who she might have married?
Thanks Kindly,
T.Strickland
