Re: Ridgeway/Ridgway AL

I realize some time has passed on this, but some Butler County, AL, Ridgeways settled in Lafayette County, FL. James R Ridgeway married Amanda V Bradley on 20 Jul 1874 in Lafayette County, FL. I don't know when James died, but after his death, Amanda married Samuel Richard Hill on 2 Sep 1900. James and his wife, Matilda, had the following children: William (1858), Martha (1860), Emma (1864), Susan (1866) and John (1870). Susan and William were enumerated with James and Amanda in Lafayette County, FL, in 1880. Next door to them is a Tim/Jim/Sim Ridgeway (age 36), wife Mary (age 36), nephew Snyder (age 2) and daughter Maryan/Maysy (age 2). Mary Ann married Benjamin Daughtry in Jul 1885 in Lafayette County, FL, and can be found in the 1900 Federal Census for Lafayette County with her sons Marion, Timothy and George, enumerated as Benjamin's step-sons. Mary Ann, but Tim/Jim/Sim can be found as head of household in the 1885 FL State Census with about six or seven children (in 1900, it was stated she had nine children, but only three living). Hope this helps some!

My father is John Wallace (Ellis) Ridgeway, b. 1922, d. 1956, Hyattsville, MD. (My mom was Dorothy Gorham Ridgeway 1928-2002) My dad's parents were Henry Harrison Ridgeway (1873-1924) and Lena Herbert(1889-1969). Other info I believe to be pertinent is that John Ridgeway's 2nd wife was Rosemary Robertson & they had 2 daughters Joan Marie (b. 1943) and Judith. Does anyone have info relating to this line. I am also trying to find info on Joan and Judith Ridgeway.
I have copies of deeds and probates of wills of Burrel H. Ridgeway and Bradley H. Ridgeway. I have transcribed them so now don't need the copies from the archives. I would more than happy to give them to anyone who is interested. It lists all the personal property and real estate of each of these two people. It is quite extensive and I am sure it would be of great benefit for anyone searching either family. List all the heirs and where they live and who they married to, also.

I am transcribing them and entering them into my computer files but once I do that I do not need the copies from the archives. would you like to have them? I would be happy to mail them to you.

Yes, James Lorenzo RIDGWAY and Sarah G. BURNETT married in Kentucky, but his roots were in Weakley County, Tennessee.

Yes, Duffel LANE [wife of William Royal LANE of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas] and Willie COFFEY [who later married Lewis Elbert WATKINS] were cousins of Robert Lee RIDGWAY when he was killed in the line of duty at Walnut Ridge. They were daughters of Walnut Ridge resident Samantha Ann {RIDGWAY} COFFEY, sister of James Lorenzo RIDGWAY, father of Robert Lee and others named.

Parents of 15, including John Almus RIGWAY [my great-grandfather], Samantha Ann and James Lorenzo were: William Alexander RIDGWAY (1825, Weakley County, Tennessee - 1917, Shady Grove near Buford, Baxter County, Arkansas) and Evangeline Killebrew [mother's maiden name] "Angeline" KENNEDY.

I have quite good records of this family -- began working on them during early 1970s.

Peggy {KING} TRUESDELL
5600 Azle Ave., Apt. 151
Fort Worth, TX 76106
817-378-8575
e-mail: truesdellp@att.net
Re: Samuel Houston Ridgeway parents mix up

Hello, ridgwaynana! Hope you're still needing answer to your post. A Ridgway descendant, I've been collecting information since 1970s and, like you, kept everything found. I put the ones I couldn't connect in notebook by states and have even lately found some that were mine. Just lately have concentrated on RIDGWAYs in Texas. I'm from the Virginia line (Samuel RIDGWAY and Elizabeth WOODSON). They left Halifax, VA for Rutherford County, TN; then, many or most went to Henry and Weakley Counties in West Tennessee. My grandmother was born in Weakley County in 1869. Her grandfather migrated to Arkansas, then my parents to Tulsa County, Oklahoma (Broken Arrow). I now live in Fort Worth, Texas.

My great-grandfather John Almus RIDGWAY and two of his brothers died in Texas. I've been tying up some loose ends on them, and in the process, building records on others with no known connections. And have found some who are in my line, from Weakley County, etc.

The record I have for Samuel Houston RIDGWAY is that his parents were George W. L. RIDGWAY and Dorcas Ann LONG.

If anyone is researching the Ridgeway history in England, I have returned from a 2 month trip to Exeter & Deven, the site of the Ridgeway castle (Torre Abbey Manor) and have copied multiple Ridgeway documents from the 1400-1600 period. They were a very influential family and according to Sir William Tole (historian of the time) "This family is the best antiquarry of the country. They've been in Devon from a very early period as witness the granting in 1375 of a new coat of arms to John Ridgeway.

Hi, I have also recently started looking for more information about Edward and Mary Ridgeway of Romsey as I believe them to be the parents of Jane Ridgeway who gave birth in Romsey in September 1839 to Charles Ridgeway, my great great grandfather. Charles said his father was "unknown" on his own marriage certificate in 1863, but evidence suggests he was the illegitimate son of Jane and someone called John St John. I have today received a copy of the baptism register which gives the abode as Latimer Street, Romsey and the occupation as Servant, although I don't know if that refers to the mother or the father or both. Any information you have on this family would be gratefully received. I believe I know about Jane's brother William as well if you're interested.
Best Wishes, Jan

Re: All UK Ridgeway info wanted

Hi, A member of my family - Margaret Thomas married the son of John Ridgeway - William on 23 Dec 1877 at Llangynwyd church. She died on 23 April 1879 and is buried in Tanygroes Cemetary Margam. We cannot find William Ridgeway in the 1881 census at all. They lived following their marriage in Constant, Taibach, Glamorgan. We have a memorial document for Margaret (in Welsh). We found John Ridgeway in the 1851 census as a 17 year old servant at 6 Pool House, Upton Bittiscombe, Tything? He died on 7 April 1913 and was living in Taibach, near Port Talbot. We are not really pursuing the Ridgeway family it was just out of curiosity we wondered what happened to William following his wife's death but hope that the above is of some help to you.
delandmike.

Jan,
Amazing to hear from you. We must be related!! My late wife Margaret and I spent many years reseaching my ancestry, and we got back as far as Edward Ridg(e)way who married Mary Webb at Romsey on 18 Nov 1803. They had 4 children Edward (b1803) William (b1813) Mary (b1816) and Mary (b1822).
I am not sure if what you say is quite correct, for according to our research, William Married Eliza Cooper in 1841 in Portsea, and who had a son Charles William in 1843. We thought that it was in 1863 that this Charles William Married Charlotte Freemantle. We think that Jane married John St. John in 1838 and had a son Charles in 1839, although you think that this Charles married(Chalotte?) in 1863.
This is what we think, but maybe your research shows different from this, and I will have to go back over our records..
My line comes through Edward(b1803) so we are not in a direct line!
If you email me at geoffridgway@blueyonder.co.uk and give me your name and address, when I have time I will copy out and send you what I have. It would be good to agree on our genealogy! Geoff.
