Correction: New data has been discovered concerning my g-grandfather Louis Dickerson Ridling. He was borne June 28, 1850 in Benton Co. Alabama (name changed to Calhoun Co. in 1858) I have the only original cardboard print photo of him and his wife Frances Franklin given to me by my grandfather, Frederick. It was made about 1903, Louis died in 1906.
source: family Bible

John Coleman Ridling
My mother was a Ridling and her family was from the Polk County area.
Would like to see what you have regarding the Ridling family.
Thanks,
John Dale

Glad to meet another Ridling clan member interested in where we came from. I would be the gr. grandson of Louis Dickerson Ridling. I have been researching our ancestors for going on 40 years now, and I see no end to it! Although all I have is posted, Rootsweb, and Ancestry.com, I still have copies of original documents,i.e. Civil War Records,Wills, and such as that and before the time of computers, one had to order those through snail mail. I keep all my photo albums, documents, and histories in a large gun safe. I've been to Lone Grove a few times, drew the lay out of the cemetery, and took some photos, and Homer Reidling and I were into this pretty deep. Although my name is spelled diffrently than his, he finally accepted the fact that after showing him proof, that we were related.
I too would have liked to have been a part of those large families back then, and we already know of the hardships they endured. But I would have been a history maker, listening and recording all the tall tales, some were true that they told. I would love to have any photos you might have, and I will share mine with you also. Most of mine are on the "Nevada Co. branch" of Ridlings. You may email me at jridling@alltel.net.

John C.
Hello!

I am John Jackson and I have a ggrandmother by the name Georgianna A. Ridling, she married my ggrandfather Fisher John Jackson in 1868 or 69. In the home of R. Ridling by R. Ridling(Rev). She must have given birth to my grandfather George A. Jackson in 1870 or 71, in that time frame. She was listed in the Columbia Co. cencus in 1870 with no child. After that I have not been able to find her, my ggrandfather remarried in 1873 and he and his new wife raised my grandfather.
If you can help me in anyway I would really appreciate it.
Please let me hear from you.
Thanks, John Jackson redjack7@peoplepc.com

Sarah's son, Milton B. Hicks, was born Oct 12, 1879 and died Mar 16, 1897. Her daughter, Roxanna Blackwood, married G.F. Beaty on Dec 26, 1883. She was born July 16, 1869 and died Sept 12, 1888. Both children are buried at Lone Grove Cemetery. As for Melvina's children I don't have much on them. Best I can remember some are buried near her at Lone Grove but the stones had deteriorated so bad I couldn't make out the dates. Her last child died at birth.

My husband's ggg grandparents were John W. Ridling and Melvina Thompson, John was Sarah and Melvina Ridling's brother.
I was interested in B. A. Hicks because I was looking for a relative of Nancy Keesee Hicks named Ben Hicks. I was wondering if B. A. Hicks could be Ben, but I think not.
Does anyone know what happened to the children of B. A. Hicks and Melvina Ridling? It looks like the son of B. A. Hicks and Sarah Adaline must have died young, since she is listed as having no living children in the 1900 census.
Yes they were in Welborn township in 1900. B.A. Hicks died in 1902. Then in 1910, 1920, and 1930 Sarah was in McLaren township. She died 1933. Are you related to B.A. Hicks or to Sarah?
Kathy

Hello:
I am looking for information on Georgianna A. Ridling she married Franklin Knox Jackson 21 Oct. 1869 in Columbia Co. Ark. I believe that they were the parents of my grandfather, George A. Jackson. I have not been able to find here anywhere after the 1870 Census for Columbia Co. Ark. Franklin remarried in 1872 and George is listed with him and his new wife and children. Franklin and Georgianna were married in the home of R.R. Ridling and I have not been able to find him either. Any help will be appreciated, Thanks John

Moses & Sarah were my husband's great great grandparents.
Moses Jr was his great grandfather & Henry Lee was his grandfather. For starters we are trying to find the names of Moses & Sarah's 2 oldest girls that were either married or dead by 1850. Also any information on their son, George, who was living in their home in 1850. And who was the father of their grandson, John Henry?

Yes, I have traced the Ridling family back to W. J.Ridling's pension from the Confederate army. If I can prove a link, then I have them back to the first family in America. I am sorry, but I only remember a few of the Raymond's family. I only remember Barton because he was near my age. Also, he had an older sister, Wanda? It is always nice to meet new family. Daughter, Sula Mae, was born Oct. 4, 1888/89 Delta Co and died Jan. 16, 1978 Texarkana, Bowie Co., TX. Sula married Collin McKinney Akin, III in Bowie County, TX.
Re: My input

Thanks for confirming John Henry Ridling's rightful place in the family tree. Also thanks for sharing the letter he wrote to his father. It has answered questions for me concerning Sarah Adline Ridling and had helped to piece together a part of her history.

Sarah's youngest sister, Melvina, was married to B.A. Hicks. Melvina had six children which included a set of twins. The 6th child died at birth on April 2, 1877. Melvina died 3 days later on April 5th. Just a little over four months later, Sarah married B.A. Hicks on August 16, 1877. Marriage record listed her as Sarah Blackwood. (She was previously married & had a daughter, Roxanna Blackwood, born July 16, 1869) Two years after Sarah married B.A. Hicks, they had a son, Milton B. Hicks, born October 12, 1879.
I have often times wondered why in 1880, Sarah & her son were living in Polk Co with her brother, Henry C. Ridling. She was listed as divorced but at the same time B.A. Hicks, in Conway Co, was listed as married. Now upon learning how the Christopher's rediculed her for marrying her dead sister's husband, I imagine the redicule became even more harsh when she had a child with him. This helps to better understand why she left Conway Co and her family. But as the story now goes, despite the redicule, their love for one another eventually prevailed. Sarah returned to Conway Co and remarried B.A. Hicks on April 6, 1884. They remained there together until his death on Oct 2, 1902. Sarah never remarried and died March 20, 1933. (Sarah) Adline, B.A. Hicks, Melvina, & several of the children are buried beside one another at Lone Grove in their own little family plot.

You've been a great help. Thanks so much.

Re: reply.... RIDLING

The death certificate lists him as John H. Ridling. He was 80 yrs old. Birth is listed as Feb 23, 1852, Lafayette Co, Miss. (note that the 1900 census listed it as Feb 1853) Wife is listed as Kansas Ridling. He resided at Solgohachia RFD. Was a farmer & minister. Spent a total of 42 years in his occupation & worked until about 1915. Father's name was listed as John Ridling, born in Jackson Co, GA. Mother was listed as Melvary Thompson, birthplace not known. Informant was J.S. Ridling also of Solgohachia RFD Ark. Died Aug 22, 1932,McClaren township, Conway Co. Burial was at Lone Grove, Aug 23,1932. Died of heart disease.
John Henry resided with Moses & Sarah, 1860-1880 census years. True, they raised him but evidently they were not his parents. In 1880, Moses Ridling was listed as head of household. John Henry, wife & son were living with him in Conway Co, AR, Gregory township. They were listed as Henry Redling, grandson, Kansas Redling, granddaughter, and W.L. Redling, ggrandson.
So what do you think? Was J.S. Ridling (informant) mistaken about the parents names? Or is it possible the birth years of Louis and John Henry got confused through the years or is it possible Melvina died giving birth to John Henry instead of Louis? Need your input.

In my records, I have John Henry Ridling b. 23 feb. 1852, father of John Shelby Ridling, b. 5 feb. 1889
My Gr. G. Father Louis, was born 4 july 1852, and was John W's son by his first wife Martha Melvina Thompson. Melvina died giving birth to Louis. I have a letter written by John Henry in 1870. It is to, J.W. Ridling and family. John Henry speaks of finding a wife when he comes to visit, and married Kansas Tiner in 1877. He was then living with Moses and Sarah. I show them to be his parents. Did J.S. Ridling state that Henry was John and Melvina's son, in the death certificate? Please verify.
James Shelby Ridling b. 25 dec. 1889, was the son of John W. Ridling. John Shelby, was born 5 feb. 1889, and was the son of Henry. Confusing isn't it???
Mr. Jackson,
I have also found Georgianna in the 1870 census, but have nothing else, who her parents were or when she died. I have listed her name with Ancestry.com for their "assisted searches". Generally takes a few weeks for some records to show up. I am going thru every census and will begin looking for her more closely. If she doesn't show in the 1880 census, then she probably died and we should look in the "Burial and Marriage" link. Will be in touch in next few weeks.
Bettie Ridling Storey
