TIPTON, Iowa - Glen Ivan Rife, 84, of Tipton, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a short illness.

Services will be at United Methodist Church in Tipton. The Rev. DeLane Wright will officiate. The body will be cremated following funeral service. Private burial will be at a later date.

Visitation will be at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton.

Mr. Rife was born Oct. 25, 1915, in Cedar County, the son of Joseph Hugh and Elva Charlotte Schisler. He married Stella Elizabeth Thumma on May 28, 1940, in Davenport.

He was a U.S. Postal carrier for 19 years.

He graduated from Tipton High School.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed gardening and poetry and was often published in Involvement Magazine.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Rife of Tipton; a son, Marlin Clyde Rife and his wife, Sharon, of Simi Valley, Calif.; three daughters, Nancy Burroughs and her husband, Ron, of Tipton, Glenda Thys and her husband, Bob, of Tipton and Janet Wehde and her husband, Ruel, of New Richland, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin Rife of Knob Noster, Mo.; a sister, Darlene Leaf of Tipton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elva Rife; sisters, Marie Wood, Mary Starkey, Hazel Nordyke, Myrna Allen, Elva Gade, and Donna Faber; and brothers, Floyd and Paul Rife.

Carolyn Rife 62, of Durant, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Unity Hospital. Services will be at Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton. The Rev. Wayne Fredericksen will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jim Holiday, Bill Holiday, Bradley Holiday, Gary Holcomb, Joe Ford, and Chris Davis.

Burial will be at the Oakdale Cemetery in Wilton.

Mrs. Rife was born March 7, 1937, in Davis County, the daughter of Fred and Deloris Pickens Clay. She married John L. Rife on Dec. 24, 1955, in Tipton. He preceded her in death in 1996. She was a member of the Wilton American Legion Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose in Muscatine. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, needle point, cross stitch, and gardening.

Survivors include three daughters, Becky Table and her husband, Frank, of Omaha, Neb., Emma McIntire and her husband, Steve, of Durant and Vicky Waver of Nichols; two sons, John Rife, and his wife, Joanna of Atalissa and Tom Rife of Clarence; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Suzanne Rife and Patsy Blake; three sisters, Linda Walker, Rowena Stark, and Mary Moore.

CLARENCE, Iowa -- Tommy J. Rife, 40, of Clarence, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

Graveside services will be at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilton. The Rev. Michael Biklen will officiate.

Visitation will be at Bentley Funeral Homes in Wilton.

Mr. Rife was born Nov. 14, 1959, in Muscatine, the son of John and Carolyn Clay Rife. He married Karen Urmie on June 16, 1979, in Nashua.

He retired from J. M. Manufacturing in Wilton due to his health.

He enjoyed the out of doors and demolition derbies.

Survivors include a daughter, Latrisha Rife and her fiance, David Chappell, Clarence; three sisters, Becky Table of Omaha, Neb., Emma McIntire of Durant and Vicky Weaver of Nichols; a brother, John Rife of Atalissa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Suzanne Rife and Patsy Blake.

MECHANICSVILLE, Iowa -- Irene Viola Rife, 103, of Mechanicsville, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mechanicsville after a brief illness.

Services will be at the United Methodist Church in Mechanicsville. The Rev. Linda Stransky will officiate. The organist will be Fran Robinson. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsville. Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous, Legion Auxiliary and United Methodist Church in Mechanicsville.

She was born Nov. 1, 1897, in Bringhurst, Ind., the daughter of Samuel Willis Yeater and Margaret Salina Haigh. She married Clarence Boyd Rife Jan. 28, 1914, in Clarence.

She was a homemaker and farmwife. She attended McKinley School in Muscatine.

She was a member of United Methodist Church in Mechanicsville, Royal Neighbors, Social Club, Legion Auxiliary No. 309, and was involved in many church activities.

Survivors include three daughters, Violet Kamerling of Lisbon, Margaret Kadiec of Mechanicsville and Donna Faye Arthur of Ashville, N. C.; daughter-in-law, Gladys Rife of Mechanicsville; sister, Velma Eleanor Taylor of Mechanicsville; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Margaret Rife; her husband, Clarence Rife on Oct. 29, 1975; sons, James S. and Clarence M.; brothers, Russell and Clarence; grandson, Ron Rife; sisters, Esther and Ora.
