Hi! I used to be Kimberly Riffe but I guess you know I use my married name (now that I FINALLY have one.) Your dad's letter come this afternoon. What a odd surprise to know that somebody was looking for me. Your father says I met him in 1971 but, for the life of me, I cannot remember since I was only five then...maybe it was on the big trip we took to Michigan once.

I don't know that I have much to offer on the Riffe side of the family; I was adopted by my dad. He was living in San Antonio, Texas with his wife, Nancy, when I saw him last in 1989, and he died in May of 1990.

Whatever y'all are looking for or wanting to know, I'll sure do my best to help. I'd be interested to see what you've accomplished in your search for information. I'll give y'all a call this weekend, if that's okay.

Thank you Betty. I dont have the Riffe book, I dont know how to get it. I appreciate your reply. Martha was my grandmother, my dad Stacy's mom. Carrie, her sister was married to my gr uncle Ireland, my mother's mom (brookie Vance's) brother. That made Carrie my gr aunt on both my mom and dad's side. I met Woodrow, and I stayed at Pat and Lucy's, I dont remember Cora, and I knew Ora (she just passed this year). The book doesnt list anything else, like all the Riffe kids? I wonder why there isnt anything else about Pat. Thanks again, I appreciate your kindness in responding, I was beginning to think there was nothing on this part of the family.
Do you have Elza Riffe married to Laura ? My grandmother was Martha Riffe Browning, married to Silas Hubert Browning. Her sisters were Ora (Riffe) Lowe, and Carrie (Riffe) Vance. Her brother Pat lived back in Harts Creek. The cousins live there in Harts creek. I'd like to know where Pat is buried. I dont know if Lucy is still alive or not. My father was Stacy Browning, who is buried at Browning Gartins cemetary there in little Harts. I once visited their old homeplace with Lucy Pat and their son Earl while visiting the family in 1972. There was a house way back in the woods, I dont remember if a relative or not, but we went to visit and found him dead in his yard. It was so long ago, I dont remember his name. Lovely place, had little dutch shutters and quite nice. Does anyone out there remember or know these Riffes?

Looking for Melvin Riffe, born about 1907, presumably in Missouri, although the 1930 census says Oklahoma. He married Vena Louise McQuitty Tellaro in 1946.

Unable to learn who his parents were since he was living with foster families in early census records.

In 1910 he lives with Jackson P. & Rebecca Jane (Adams) Demasters in Orrick, Ray Co., MO.

In 1920 he lives with Claude A. and Martha (Dunkle) Endsley in Butler, Harrison Co., MO. He is described as an orphan in this record.

In 1930 he is living in Jacumba, San Diego Co., CA, with a sister, Lillian R. Chaney, born about 1906.

Any help at all would be appreciated. Thank you.

Leah
I am sorry report that Fred J. Riffe, author of Reiff to Riffe Family in America died 2 May 2008 in a Bradenton FL retirement center. I happened to read a death notice in the Portsmouth OH newspaper on-line a couple of days ago and there is an obit. available there now. www.portsmouth-dailytimes.com

Mr. Riffe's wife Kathleen survives. As a recall, she did research for the bk. along with Fred. A note in the bk. says that all correspondence and bk. orders should be sent to "Reiff to Riffe Family in America" Box 504324 Marathon, FL 33050

I'm not sure if the address is still good in view of Mr. Riffe's relocation to the Bradenton area, but you could try and see if your mail is forwarded. I'll bet the Riffes made some sort of arrangement for that. If you google "Fred J. Riffe" you can also find a death notice from FL that gives a link where you can post messages to the family.

I am sorry about your fire. That happened to my sister a few yrs. ago. Best wishes.

There is a book entitled "Reiff To Riffe-Family in America" written by Fred J Riffe in 1995. It is full of information, with very few mistakes that we have found. My brother ordered the book from Fred Riffe, who lived in Florida, but I believe I read about his death somewhere. I am not sure how you could obtain a copy of the book now. I have also found it in a few libraries and there is also a Volume 2. Hope this helps.
