DNA Project

Riggan/s, Riggin/s, Riggen/s, Ragain/s males from anywhere in the world are invited to contact the Riggins Family DNA project if they would be willing to submit a tiny sample of their cells taken from a painless cheek scraping in their own home.

The Riggins Family DNA project is ongoing at Family Tree DNA, a company primarily dedicated to helping genealogists find relationships beyond what is available in the written record. Family Tree DNA uses a lab associated with the University of Arizona, and results are private and confidential. This is not the stuff of paternity suits or CSI, and a person can never be personally identified by their sample.

The male Y chromosome is extracted from this simple mouth swab and is as unique as a fingerprint. Unlike a fingerprint, which differs from one person to another, the Y chromosome is passed virtually unchanged from father to son for many generations. DNA analysis can with scientific certainty say that your ancestors are or are not related to someone else’s ancestors. We are hoping to clarify many years of painstaking paper research by dedicated genealogists and formerly independent researchers by sorting out different Family Trees and therefore helping many of our Tribes by these means.

According to the family tree on ancestry.com John Riggan 1771-1816 married jesabel Durham and they are the parents of edward D riggan born in 1806 in warren, nc and died 1864 in Hot Springs.

If someone has additional information please let me know.

My line goes through Edward's daughter Mary Riggan who married Hugh Mcwhorter.

Fifth Annual Cummings Mounce Family Reunion

The descendants of Michael and Sarah Lakey Mounce and the descendants of Robert Wilson and Sarah Adams Cummings are invited to the Fifth Annual Cummings Mounce Family Reunion, 2-6 pm at the Friendship Baptist Fellowship Hall, 633 Friendship Church Rd, Elkin NC [note this is a different location from previous years]. Columbus Riggan was the first son-in-law of John William and Daisy Venable Mounce, marrying Velna Mounce, John and Daisy's eldest child.

Bobby Jenkins (great-grandson of Michael and Sarah Lakey Mounce, grandson of John William and Daisy Venable Mounce, son of Bob and Stella Mounce Jenkins) serves as the 2007 Reunion Chairman. Tom and Lois Parks Corder [Tom is great-grandson of Robert Wilson and Sarah Adams Cummings, son of Paul and Eloise Cummings Corder] will generously serve up refreshments for all – please let us know if you will attend so that the Lois can plan the food accordingly.

This Samuel Riggan was born in Hot Spring Co., AR. He was the youngest of the family. The family came from Warren co., NC about 1849. He married Corenelia Phillips. They are both buried near where I live, in the Phillips Cemetery off of Hwy 222. He was born 1851 according to my info. He was the son of Edward Durham Riggan and Sarah Harris Riggan. His older brother, Thomas Hawkins Riggan is my G grandfather. Hope this helps.

I'm a descendant of Cora Riggan Gray b.11/26/1876.

I believe her father is Samuel Riggan, mother Cornelia Phillips, I may have missed someone in there, not sure...there is a 52 year gap between Cora and Samuel.

Can someone please help me out, I would like to fill in the gaps....

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I'm related to Ben Jr. I'm his only son. I have 3 older sisters. One still lives in Lubbock, one lives in Denton, and another lives in Midland. My wife and twin boys live in San Antonio.

Hello, I'm trying to gather information on my grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Riggan, Sr. The only real information I have on him, is that he married my grandmother, Esther Izora Baughman after his first wife died in the influenza outbreak in 1918-1919. They lived in Lamar Co., TX until his death ca. 1950. There is also a strong possibility of either Choctaw or Cherokee heritage. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I found a Gilbert Riggan,buried at the National Cem In Nashville,Tn. Born August 1802 -died Dec ,1864.He was in the Union forces holding Nashville.There is a missing brother,by the name of Gilbert Ragain.Could this be the same and I found a Smothers married to a Gilbert Riggan.In Montgomery Co. Tn.they had 3 children Ann,Amy? and Gilbert.the old family name was Riggin(from New Jersey) and was changed in North Carolina to Ragain/s.By the way related to Thomas Ragain/s and Elizabeth Featherkille.

I am searching for information re: Sarah Riggan, b 1779 in Granville County N.C.. She was married to Nathaniel Brown on 11/9/1809 in Warren County NC. I cannot find who her father/mother was nor any information regarding a daughter Rachel Brown who was my GGGrandmother. If you have any information regarding these individuals, I would appreciate learning of them. Thanks.

Elizabeth Ila RIGGAN was born Mar. 1858 and d. 15 Sep. 1937. I show that she and James EVANS had 9 children.
Elizabeth was the daughter of Sandy B. RIGGAN and Lucinda ROBUCK his second wife. Sandy died 7 Jun 1884 and is buried in the old Riggan cemetery between Detroit and Hamilton AL with his first wife, Martha COLCOLOUGH and four children. Lucinda married a Mr. Carpenter and went to TX. She died in the summer of 1915 in Pearsall, TX
Sandy was the son of Michael RIGGAN and his first wife Rebecca SHEARIN both of Warren County NC. Sandy and Martha, his first wife moved to Marion County, AL sometime around 1847. Martha died in the winter of 1857 of pneumonia and was buried with their youngest child who died in infancy at about the same time.

I have been compiling the History of the Riggan Family for the last 2o years. I live in Warrenton, NC (Warren County) about 5 miles from the original homesite of John Wilburn Riggan who lived at what used to be Mountain View,NC. My ancestors moved into this area from the Hubquarter Creek area which is about 15 miles from my home. That area is mostly covered with Gaston Lake now. Previous to moving there, my ancestors came from Surry County, and Isle of Wight County, Va. (Mid 1600's). I would love to corespond with anyone who has lineage to these families, especially interested in any information on Mountain View, NC.

Hi Murphy, I am a cousin in Arkansas. My line is from Daniel Regan-Joseph Riggan-Joseph Sr-John-Jacob-John Carter-Edward Durham Riggan. Edward Durham came to AR about 1848 from Warren Co, NC. I have been trying to find his siblings without any luck. I would love to hear from you. There's a bunch of us Riggans in AR and we have spread to TX, WA, SC, LA, OK.
