Hi All you Riis researchers. I too am trying to locate info on my Riis ancestors. I've just read all these posts, and alot seem like we might have connections, but we need someone who has access to denmark records to research further!

My great-great grandfather Simon A. Riiscame to the US in 1893, traveling with his future bride, Johanna Thompsen, both @ 18-21 at the time have info from ship/name, etc....but have yet to locate other info to prove this -- info says Vieje, Denmark, ship name was Tyende? Sept 1893
Story as told to me my family (over the years) is that he came to the US with a brother, and the names were spelt differently on paperwork, so the family now has both RIIS, and REIS as spellings......Need to find ship paperwork to research/confirm. Ellis Island records don't have it online yet, and they arrived in NY
Simon's death records place his birth in 1866, and simply state "denmark"
Any of this helpful to anyone? Can anyone help fill in any blanks? Leads? Research sites? Any and all help (free help only please! No paid researchers need reply) is greatly appreciated.
