I have been at a stand still for the past 7 years. My grandfather was from Tipperary and was named John Riley. I don't have his middle name but he married Alice (last name unknown) and had several children and moved to the US. First through Canada where two children were born and then in IL. Could your family be related to mine?

Kansas City, Kans., Aug.18 -

Larry Hickey, a switchman, was killed; J.L. Givens was
probably fatally crushed, and Edgar Riley's right hand
was so severely crushed that it will have to be amputated,
when a switch engine and tender on the Missouri Pacific
railroad jumped the track a mile north of here today.

The men were riding on a running board of the engine when
the accident occurred. The men are residents of this city.

I have a relative named Thomas Dominic Riley (born approximately 1821), also from County Cavan, Ireland, and who emigrated to the US. I believe he went through Canada and in the 1840s. Do you have any information as to whether they were related?

Have not been able to reasearch family history enough yet to know if there is a connection. My post was in response to KimberlyeR's original request which seemed to fit my great grandfather John Joseph Riley. He was born in Ireland in 1835 and arrived in Boston in approximately 1852. He eventually moved to Texas and married Margaret Ellen with last name McNamara (I think) around 1865 to 1870. I do not know of a connection with Buckley or Skully.

I am not sure if we are related or not, but my Rileys originally came from Ireland, not sure which part, but believe it to be Tipperary. They lived in the Birkenhead/Liverpool area of England when they married into the Scully family and the Scully family married into the Buckley family, from whom I am descended. The name John Joseph is a common one in our line, so I thought i would query you and see if you had the above locations or other names associated with your Riley's as well. My Buckley family ended up in Pennsylvania and then moved from there. Thanks!

My great grandfather's name was John Joseph Riley (24 June 1835 - 27 Sept 1934) and he was married to Margaret Ellen Riley (6 June 1861 - 20 June 1942). My grandfather was William J. Riley (25 Dec 1876 - 27 Sept 1934) and he had a brother named Jim or James. There is a gravemarker in the Runge, Texas cemetery with the name James E. Riley (8 Jan 1887 - 10 Feb 1954); I do not know if that is the brother or not.

My Nathan was born in northern Virginia and later moved with his father Abraham to Fluvanna County where he married Ann Settle Ballenger in 1804. Nathan moved to Ross County, Ohio and then to Wayne County, Indiana. He served in the War of 1812 from 16 Feb to 16 Aug 1814 in the Ohio Militia, Collier's Regiment. He entered the services as a private and was a corporal at his discharge. Nathan was in Indiana in 1816 as he purchased land in Wayne County, IN. Nathan and his wife were Methodists and along with Joshua Ballenger and his wife helped to found the Williamsburg Methodist Church which is on the site of the present day Williamsburg Indiana Cemetery.

Do you have anymore info on your ggrandfather? Any little tidbit might open the door. My Riley ancestors settled in Northern Kentucky circa 1800 and lived and were prominent for many generations.

Sarah, excuse me for butting in, but Agnes' sister Delia Riel is my great grandmother. Julius Riley was their father and he is my great great grandfather. Delia married Jules Votraw and they had my grandfather, Joseph Edmund Votraw, who was born in Hammondville. He was one of triplets.

Yes, Agnes lived with her family in Hammondville and probably was there to around the time she married. Her sister, Delia, is my great grandmother. Delia married Jules Votraw and they left Hammondville around 1892-93.

I believe that my daughter-in-law's 3g grandmother, Cecelia Riley, was one of Nathan's children.

Cecelia married Samuel C. Marker, and one of their children (my daughter-in-law's 2g grandmother) was named Nancy Aliff Marker, and I have heard (but haven't seen any proof) that Nathan's wife was Nancy Aliff.

Any information on the family would be appreciated.

Do you know if this is the same Nathan Riley who moved to Harrison County, Ohio? My daughter-in-law's 3g grandmother was Cecelia Riley, born about 1809 in Virginia. I believe she is the daughter of the Nathan Riley who later moved to Harrison County, Ohio. I'd love to share information.

I have also heard the 8 children story . . . from a Washington County, Iowa profile of Nathan Sr.'s grandson William H. The profile names Nathan, Jr. and Harrison as Nathan Sr.'s sons, but doesn't name the other children. I believe that Cecelia Riley, who married Samuel C. Marker, was one of his daughters.

Cecelia and Samuel had a daughter named Nancy Aliff Marker. Do you have any information that Nathan Sr.'s wife was Nancy Aliff?

Yes my Greatgrandfather John came from Ireland & my Grandfather & Great Uncles came from IL then moved to Ne. I don't know where Jay came from but he is in a picture I found was in Colorado where my Grandfather came to & lived here for awhile he died in Ne. He died before I got to know him. (my Grandfather)

My g-grandfather was born in 1904, KY; however, the name is not certain. On my grandfather's birth certificate it claims that his father's name was Theodore Riley, but he went by the name 'Jimmy'. So, I can only come to the conclusion that his name was a combo of something like Theodore James, James T, ect.

My grandfather was born in 1934 in Detroit, Michigan. So, there is a 30 year gap that we don't know about my g-grandfather. We don't know if he had any siblings, or if he was married before having my grandfather.

I do know that my g-grandfather ended up in California before he died (d-1980s). Somewhere close to Anaheim.

Theodore R Riley (b. 1903 - d. 1965)

Forgot to mention that his parents names were James Riley and Lula (maiden name unknown). This might have been James' second wife because in one census it shows James living with a mother-in-law by the name of Susin Harris, but no Lula.

Theodore also had two siblings. A brother and sister named Bertha M Riley and William B Riley.

Looking for relatives of Theodore R Riley, born 1903 in Kentucky. I know from the census that he stayed in Kentucky until he moved to Detroit, MI for the 1930 census. He was married to a Georgia R (maiden name unknown). He had a daughter named Nora R Riley. He ended up out in California where he stayed until he died in 1965.

I am researching my great grandfather Michael O'Reilly of
the village of Bawnboy, County Cavan, Ireland, born about 1815 who entered the US at Boston abt 1834, later married
Margaret Hauver, born in Canada abt 1820 and lived first in
Lowell, next in Billerica and finally in Woburn, Mass.
The Hauver name could also be spelled Heauver. The 1880 Fedl Census indicates Hauver's parents were both born in NY.
