Re: Rinkes in Michigan

Though I don't know about your great grandfather, I do have some information about the Rinke's from that area. Christopher and Christine Rinke came to Michigan in 1861 with their nine children. Their children ranged from age 27-10, so it could be a decendent of one of them. MY gggrandfather was Andreas. The John that you speak of is not in my branch, but my be a decendent of Christopher and Christine.
Do you happen to live in Michigan? There is a Rinke family book at both the Library of Michigan and the Burton Collection at the Detroit Public Library. It may have something in there that would help. I do not own the book and have only copied pages that pertained to my branch. Hope some of this helps.

Rinkes in Michigan

Hi all, I see a lot of posts for Rinkes in the Detroit, MI area - while I haven't been able to connect the dots, my great-grandfather is from the Detroit/Gratiot area.

His name is John Rinke, b. 26 Mar 1872, d. 26 Dec 1953.
He was married to Mary Weithoff.
Family history holds that his parents died when he was young (perhaps under 10 yrs old), possibly in a fire, and he kept the Rinke name but was raised in another family, the Salters. We have not been able to find the names of his biological parents, who would have been Rinkes - perhaps one of your relatives connects??

Looking forward to any info!
Hey Lisa,
I am related to your husband- Christian Emmerich was the brother of my ancestor Peter Emmerich and they were two sons of Franciscus Emmerich. Do you have any pictures of this branch of the family? My grandfather was adopted and so we have no pictures of his biological family (the Emmerichs). Peter's son Alexander also married a Matilda Rinke, so I am related in that way also. Feel free to email me at jadey213@yahoo.com

Hi Lisa,

I passed the tombstone of (perhaps?) a relative of your husband's today at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Racine. The stone read:

RINKE, Juliana, frau von [wife of] Jacob Rinke. Born (can't make out month/day) 1839. Died 23 Nov. 1873(?); last number may have been an 8.

Just in case it's something helpful for your notes.

Best!

Kath

I have been trying for years to connect your Rinke family with my Rinke family. I am at a dead end with my
great-great-grandparents from Treptow on der Tolenese (now Altentreptow),Germany. Their names are Fredericka Riese and Handschumacher Rinke (I do not know his given name). My great-grandparents are Louise Ida Henriett Riese and Carl Frederich Christof Rinke from Demmin, Altentrepto and Berlin, Germany.

My grandfather, Willie Emil Franz Rinke immigrated to the US as an orphaned 3 year old, along with two of his siblings. Leaving from Breman, Germany on the vessel Hermann, they disembarked in Baltimore, MD and rode the B&O railroad to Louisville, KY and thence by ferry to Jeffersonville, IN where they were met by their mother's sister Fredericka Riese and her husband Gottlieb Jennerich.

Any assistance or information would be greatly appreciated!!

Mary Lu Sanders
Her parents were Johanna Stark and Ferdinand Rinke.

She married Alexander Albert Emerich, someone who I am also looking for more information about.

Their daughter Catherine J.
Would it be possible that your grandfather might have moved from Arkansas to Missouri? Do you know if he was an engraver? Or anything about his siblings?

There must have been some reason for my grandfather to have written down those names. I am hoping to find cousins of my grandfather.

My grandfather's parents were Carl Fredrich Christof Rinke and Louisa Ida Henriette Reise. And my grandfather's siblings are Elise Caroline Marie, Paul, and Georg. My grandfather and his siblings were orphaned in 1883 and brought to Indiana to live with an aunt Fredericka Reise and her husband Gottlieb Jennerich.

Among other items I have are several photos taken in New York and Berlin with no names attached. I'd love to be able to identify them - and, perhaps, Otto, Julius, Paul, Morris, Bill, George, Ben and Mildred might be in one of the photos.

It is interesting that Paul, Bill (William) and George are names in both my grandfather's family and in the list of names I am looking for.

Thanks for your reply. If you think there is a possibility of a connection, I'd appreciate hearing from you again.

Mary

A cousin has just come across an old map and on the back were the following names:

Otto Rinke, St. Louis, engraver; brothers Julius Rinke, Paul Rinke (sailor), Morris Rinke; neice Mildred Rinke; Bill - 2 brothers George, Ben.

My grandfather was Willie/William Rinke (b. 1883 Germany; d. 1970 KY - lived in IN). The above names were probably written while talking with my grandfather. We think Otto, Julius, Paul and Morris may have been cousins of my grandfather.

My grandfather's parents were Carl and Louisa Reise Rinke of Altentreptow and Berlin, Germany.

Any information or suggestions greatly appreciated - thanks - Mary

Re: Joseph Wilhelmina Rinke

Margaret,
I just ran across your 3/7/02 response to my 1999 query re: Joseph & Wilhilmena Rinke. I believe that the Annie Rinke that you are looking for was my Great Aunt. Her brother & my grandfather, Joseph Rinke, Jr, was born in Fort Dodge, IA on May 2, 1879. His parents were Joseph Rinke, Sr. & Wilhelmina Fritrich (?). Joseph Rinke Sr. was born in Germany in approx July, 1833 & died in Tacoma, WA on June 10, 1904. He was a farmer earlier in life and an expressman later in life. His wife, Wilhelmina, was born in Germany on Nov 7, 1843 & died on July 20, 1937 also in Tacoma, WA. From what I can tell, Joseph & Wilhelmina immigrated to America in approx 1864. I then believe that Wilhelmina traveled back to Germany in the early 1870s timeframe, where she gave birth to Annie, and then she returned after Annie was born to America. Not sure why this occurred, but she may have possibly gone back to retrieve her Mother, Louisa. I believe I have some information re: Annie in my records at home - i.e. census records, newspaper records, etc. I recall seeing in at least one of the newspaper clippings that she was married to a man named "Bellew" or "Blue". What is your relation to Annie? I'd like to share any information that you have on the Rinke family.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Regards,
Tom Rinke

Rinke Brothers from Germany

Just recently my cousin discovered a letter to our grandfather, Willy Emil Franz Rinke (b. 1883 Germany, d. 1970 Kentucky), that said he had an uncle who had come to America during the Civil War period. Unfortunately, the letter did not give the uncle's name.

However, the uncle would have been the son of Handschuhmacher Rinke and Christiane Kaufmann and the brother of Carl Friedrich Christof Rinke (b. 1841 Demmin, Germany; d. 1884 Tempelhof, Germany). Carl's wife was Louisa Ida Henriette Riese (b. Treptow Krs. Demmin, Germany 1839; d. 1886 Berlin, Germany). Carl and Louisa were m. 1867 at St. Paul's in Treptow on the Tollense. Her father was Ferdinand Heinrich Reise.
My grandfather and his siblings (Georg, Paul and Elise Marie Caroline "Lizzie") were orphaned in 1886 and immigrated to Jeffersonville, IN where they were raised by their mother's sister Fredericka Riese and her husband Gottlieb Jennerich.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Mary L. Sanders (daughter of Helen Elizabeth Rinke and granddaughter of Willy Emil Franz Rinke)

Hi Patricia I was reading the messages on the Rinke family. I was wondering if you have been successful in obtaining a copy of the Rinke Family book. I live in the Warren, Mi area and have checked the local libraries and have not been able to locate the book. I did read through it at Burton during the summer. However now that the Burton section is closed indefinitely due to the August flood I am having trouble tracing certain Rinke family members. Please let me know if you have found a way or no of another way where the Rinke family history book can be found thank you. Jill
