Jacob Rinker, son of George, father of Ephraim D.

Hi: I need "paper proof" of my lineage for the DAR, and I am having trouble finding proof that Jacob Rinker, son of George who was in the Revolution, is the father of Ephraim David Rinker. This Jacob lived from 1779-1831 in Shenandoah County and was married to Magdaline Dellinger. I can use an obit, tombstone, family Bible, as well as a deed, will, etc. Thanks for your help!

I agrre that we need to be talking the same people. That, however, does seem to be the case. I have not put in everything, but the family I am researching is:

Elias Rinker
born: Pennsylvania, about 1824
died: 19 Mar 1865 (Killed in the Battle of Averasboro)
wife: Lucinda
born: Pennsylvania, 24 Apr 1825
children
Henry Elias
born: Pennsylvania, 20 Dec 1844
died: St. Louis, Missouri, 20 Jun 1896
George
Lucnida
Charles
William E.
Emma
Anna
Francis
Frank
Ida
I was given birth dates for this family from a relative.

I am a descendent of Henry Elias Rinker and have reliable detail on his family.

I have not been able to get further back than Elias or get a handle on Lucinda. I believe, however, that there is some link between William Trout, Jr. who died in St. Louis and Lucinda.

If this seems correct to you we can explore things in more detail.
Regards

My Elias Rinker married Lucinda Trout and died in the Civil war in 1865. He had 9 children, which I have done a ton of research on. His youngest child was a daughter Ida May Rinker, Born in 1861. I would love to trade information if this is the family you are interested in.

I started on the Rinker line again and have found an oddity. The 1856 IA state census shows Royal, 29, b. IN; Emily 23 b. OH, and Aaron L. 1 b. IA. This leads me to believe that Royal had 3 wives and that Aaron is actually the son of Royal & Emily. Any help?
Thanks, Sandy

I have a family book which contains info on the Rinker's that were in Virginia. They arrived in the United States in the 1700's. I believe I found the book through the Shenandoah US genweb site, if you go to a link for the library or google for the library website. There is alot of info on the Rinker family in that library.

Abraham and Rebecca Rinker

In researching my family tree I have identified that Abraham and Rebecca Rinker are my GG-Grandparents. They lived in Upper Saucon, PA. Abraham was born about 1795. I am not able to identify for certain who his parents are. Rebecca Rinker was born about 1808. I am not able to ascertain who her parents were. According to my grandmother there is some connection to the Santee family on Rebecca's side but I am not able to make that link.

Newspaper Article: Rinkers Quit Church Offices. Mauch Chunk, PA

The Philadelphia Inquirer
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
January 18, 1911
p. 3

RINKERS AND PETERS QUIT CHURCH OFFICES

Criticism Results in Members of Two Families in East Mauch Chunk Quitting Posts

Special to The Inquirer
MAUCH CHUNK, Pa., Jan. 17 - Of late there has been a great deal of critcisim, on the part of the members of the east Reformed Church of East Mauch Chunk, because so many members of the Rinker and the Peters families were holding offices in that church and Sunday School.

The result was that on Sunday last all the Rinkers and Peters resigned from office, both in church and the Sunday school.

In the church H. S. Rinker, Ephraim E. Rinker, Fred C. Rinker and Winslow W. Peters resigned from the consistory and Miss Elva Peters resigned as organist.

In the Sunday school Ephraim E. Rinker, Fred C. Rinker and Winslow and Raymond Peters, Miss Elva Peters and Miss Minnie E. Rinker were teachers. All resigned. Ephraim E. Rinker was the superintendent.

H. S. Rinker has this to say: "Yes; we all resigned, but no one need borrow any trouble. The Reformed Church stood long before the Rinkers and the Peters were born. It will stand long after they are dead. As for the First Reformed Church and Sunday School, they are admittedly in a most excellent condition. The congregation of 240 members has as fine and as talented a body of young people and old people as well as any congregation in existence. It has a fine church property, fully paid for and a field that is ripe for the harvest to work in. There is no reason on earth why it should not have a glorious and prosperous future. The Peters and the Rinkers will be present at every service, just as always."

--------------------------------------------------
Found while researching other Rinkers.
The Philadelphia Inquirer
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
May 21, 1908

ENDS LIFE BY LEAP FROM PARK TROLLEY BRIDGE

Man Makes Fatal Dive Into Schuylkill in Sight of May Pedestrians

Jumping our from a crowd of pedestrians crossing the Park trolley bridge over the Schuylkill River yesterday afternoon, a man afterward identified as H. P. Rinker, 40 years old, of 1605 West Venango Street, climbed to the rail, and before he could be hindered, dived to the waters below, the the farewell cry, "I am going!"

The incident occurred about half-past 4, and in full view of a hundred persons on the bridge a the time. Those who made an attempt to thwart his design were in time to hear another muttered remark about "being tired of it," but could make nothing intelligible of the phrase.

He had been walking near the rail all the way across the bridge, according to several of the witnesses, and had several times stopped and gazed long and gloomily into the river below, but no attention was paid to his actions. When he made the leap there was a general shout, which attracted the attention of two Park guards. They glanced out in time to see the man come to the surface for the second time. The immediately procured a rowboat, hurried to the spot where he had gone down last, but he did not reappear.

The body was afterward indentified by a brother, Charles A. Rinker, a druggist, in this city. Rinker will be buried from this brothers home. No motive is known for his taking of his life.

--------------------------------------------------
Found while researching other Rinkers.
