Help! I am resurrecting a still-unsolved mystery :-)

Still seeking info on Harriet Ripple (b ca 1850; d by 1880 census), daughter of Jacob (b ca 1815) and Susannah/Susan (b ca 1819) Ripple of Shirley Twp. Harriet's son was John Reck (b 1874) -- misspelled as "Rex" and living with his Ripple grandparents on 1880 census. Believe family worshipped at Gilboa Church.

Father of John Reck also named John Reck (b 1850); he ultimiately married Harriet's neighbor Alice Wogan & moved to Philadelphia.

Anyone know if Harriet and elder John Reck married prior to son John's birth? Did they divorce? What happened to Harriet Ripple?

Thanks!
Wendy

Hi. Frank R. Ripple (born 1982) and Tony Kubena Ripple were my great grandparents. They were living in San Angelo, Texas. Do you have more info on Frank and Elizabeth? My mother had an Uncle Adolph who also lived in San Angelo. I have a lot of the line from Frank and Tony, including their children and some siblings. I'm excited to see your query.

Rita Grasshoff

Susan F. Cummings Riffle/Ripple/Rifle

The handwriting on the probate papers of her mother, Martha A. Cummings, is uncertain as to the spelling of Riffle, etc. Susan was born bef. 1849, and lived in 1872 in Selma, Alabama. She is my great-grandaunt, and I'd like to find her descendants. Susan's sister, Ellen Virginia Cummings McCracken is my great-grandmother. I found this Cummings family through a search of the McCracken name in the Genealogical Dept. of the Public Library of Lowndes County, Mississippi. Ellen McCracken and Susan Riffle(?)were named beneficiaries in Martha's probate papers. If you can help me find Susan's descendants, thank you.
Frank and Elizabeth Ripple, from Bohemia ended up in Texas

Am looking for any information on this couple. Immigrated approx. 1878 according to 1900 Census records. She was a widow at that time. Had a son named Frank, who is listed as a Jr. on his SSDI record, so assuming father's name was Frank, or Frank is probably some derivative of his actual name. Frank Jr.'s wife was named Tonnie/Tonie/Tony (spelled according to which census record you are looking at). His parents were from Mähren. Any help would be appreciated. They are not directly related to me, but Frank Jr. and Tonie's son Adolph married into one of the branches on my tree. Thanks in any event!

1830 federal census for Sullivan Co., Indiana has Mary w/ 9 children under 15. Jacob had died before census was taken. Trying to find children. Malinda who married Benjamin Sanford Clements is known to be one of them. About 8 years ago a researcher contacted a decendant (on Ripple side) of Malinda and recieved info from that person that Daniel, Jesse M, Malinda, John, & Jacob were 5 of those children. The researcher no longer has the info or who the person was that provided it. Am looking for that person or any other that can provide info on the children of Jacob & Polly Ripple.

Thanks very much for joining in our Reck-Ripple mystery!

We are have documentation that a Harriet Ripple and a John Reck were the parents of John William Reck, born ca 21 Jan 1873, died 23 May 1937 (bur Mt Union). BUT the only records for John Reck show he married Alice and lived in Philadelphia, where they raised 2 sons and a daughter. When we found the 2 Harriet Ripples we were surprised. There is a grandson, Joh Rex (incorrectly spelled on the census), born ca 1874 living with Jacob & Susan Ripple in 1880. We think this is our John William. But we don't know which Harriet is ours, if she and John were married/divorced, etc.

We'll let you know what we find. Perhaps together we can figure this out!

Thanks,
Wendy

Interesting that the Harriet Ripple at Mt. Union Cemetary was born the same year as the dtr of Jacob and Susannah Ripple. Now I am totally confused as to who the Harriet that died of typhoid fever in 1879 was related to. There was also a Harriet Ripple that was b. 1851 that as listed as "servant" in the 1880 Shirley, PA census in the home of William H. Majers.

I have the lineage of Harriet's sister Hannah b. 1847 and m. Thomas Walker of Mt. Union, PA. My line starts with Jacob and Susannah--can't find details of Hannah's death, other than it occurred between 1880 and 1890. This is an elusive family. If I have a break-through I will let you know.

I remember Aunt Tassie very well as she had red hair and a mole on her temple. She visited our farm serveral times when I was little. The obituary doesn't mention the rest of her brothers and sisters so I'm wondering if this mentions only the brothers and sisters living at the time of the obituary. I also remember Uncle Gib coming from Illinois to my grandfather's farm in Johnstown, Ohio. He came on the train into Columbus and Grandpa (his brother Orin) and my dad (Paul) went to the train station and picked him up. There is a picture showing the brothers and sisters at the farm. I would love to know more about our history so please feel free to contact me.

VIRGINIA RIPPLE PHOTOS/WEBSITE

I'm looking for the children of Virginia and Harry Ripple. They would be my cousins.

Virginia was the daughter of my grand-aunt, Ella F. BRADFORD, and NUTE or NEWT WESTFALL. VIRGINIA OPAL WESTFALL was born March 17, 1914 in Wheeling, Ohio Co., WV.

Virginia married HARRY RIPPLE, and she died March 8, 1981 in Wheeling, WV.

Please check out my website to see you recognize Virginia & Harry in 1978. Photo on the right. http://home.earthlink.net/~keltia1/id18.html

To the left of that photo is one of Virginia's half-sister, Beatrice Westfall, not sure of the year. See photo no. 5 for a photo of Beatrice in 1978. http://home.earthlink.net/~keltia1/id19.html

There is also a photo I believe to be Virginia in the early 50's but have no confirmation of this. See photo no. 5. http://home.earthlink.net/~kithandkin/id2.html

If you recognize Virginia, Beatrice or any of their Bradford relations and are my cousins, please contact me.

Thanks.

HARRY & VIRGINIA RIPPLE

I am trying to locate living family members of Virginia & Harry Ripple. Virginia was my Dad, FREDERICK WINFRED ROBERTS', cousin (he was born in Wellsburg, WV). I think Virginia may have died in 1981 in or near Wheeling, WV. I'm not sure what happened to Harry or if he pre-deceased her.

The last time Dad saw them was in 1978 when they visited the cemetery & graves of my Grandma, MARTHA "Addie" ADELINE BRADFORD SIMMS ROBERTS (born 1883 in Triadelphia, WV, died 1971 in Washington, PA), Grandma's daughter, BARBARA SIMMS (died 1922) by first husband, SHRIVER WILLIAM SIMMS or William Shriver Simms (died 1915), and Grandma's brother, JOHN THOMAS BRADFORD (died 1969 in West Alexander, PA).

My Mother thinks this cemetery was in Wheeling, WV but cannot remember the name or exact location. Also with them was my Dad's half-brother, William (Bill) Simms, and another cousin of Dad's called Beatrice aka Bea (don't know her last name).

I am looking for cousins and for the cemetery where my Grandma is buried. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Looking for any descendants (or relatives) of Charles A. RIPPEL Jr.

Charles was born about 1889 in Missouri to Charles Augustus RIPPEL Sr.(Gus)and Sarah A. HIATT, I believe. The two known siblings are John A. RIPPEL Sr. and Robert W. RIPPEL (Bobby).

The RIPPEL family were showmen for years and had a circus named the RIPPEL Bros. Show. They may have also worked for other traveling groups. This makes them hard to track down.

Known locations:

1890s St. Joseph,Buchanan Co., Missouri

1910 census Brazil, Clay Co., Indiana (before this they were traveling in Indiana and elsewhere.)

1920 census Taylor Magesterial Dist., Orange Co., Virginia (Charles Jr. and family are found living with another show family, the LEEs)

1930 census Iron City,Seminole Co., Georgia (Charles Jr. and family, still listed as "Showman")

Wives on the census are listed as Mabel and Margaret.

Children listed are: Violet, Virginia, Lovella B., and William A.

If any of this sounds familiar, please contact me. My husband has not known much of his extended family. I can provide some additional clues about Charles A. Sr. (and other wives), John and Robert and families. We descend from John.

Kathy REID RIPPEL
