I know this posting is old, but I just started to research This family for my husband. Isabel (Risch) and Anthony Widish are his great grandparents. He knows very little about them except spending time in Dousman when he was very young with his cousins. He also recalls when Isabel was in St. Ann's.
I had the opportunity to meet his grandmother Evelyn (Widish) Jansen(Isabel and Anthony's daughter) and get to know her a little. I did know her husband Robert, but we did not see them very often. I would love to know more about this family and it would mean a great deal to my husband.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Oh my goodness. You have the other half of her story. I would love to see a picture of her. I've only ever really heard the Kampe (first husband) side of things. The brother who moved to Germany was Robert. I believe he is still alive, but my mom has lost track of him. He went by the Kampe last name. I would love to correspond off of the forum if you wouldn't mind. I have additional details from her marriage to Fred Kampe Sr. and a lot of information on her Wachs ancestors. It seems that she had a very difficult life from the very beginning - at least that's what my grandfather always indicated and I've uncovered additional information that backs this up. Here's my contact info sillyygoose@aol.com Rebecca

Don't have anything directly on Marie, but Ernst was my great-great-grandfather. He was born in Goslan in August, 1823 or 1826, came to America in 1870, and died in Brooklyn in 1900. (See Brooklyn Eagle 6/19/00 and NY Times 6/21/00) My family's notes say that he'd lived in Emden and his parents were named Sebastian and Sabina. Do you know how the Apel's and Risch's are linked? Ernst's eldest son Henry is the same "great uncle Henry Risch" cited in "Koop", the memoir of ex-surgeon general C Everett Koop (whose mother was an Apel), and the Koops lived on 14th Street, the Apels on 15th and my great-grandfather Eberhard Risch, Ernst's second son, on 11th Street, all between 5th and 4th Avenues in South Brooklyn, but I haven't found the actual names and relationships. Thanks,

I am looking for descendants of Albert Risch and Catherine Wachs. I am the granddaughter of Fred Kampe Jr., a son of Catherine's first marriage. I have a lot of information on the Wachs family, but I'm really interested to know more about Catherine, my great-grandmother. I know that her parents were George Wachs and Katherine Kohl and that her mother died when she was a baby. I would especially like to see some pictures of Catherine and to correspond with family who actually knew her. My mother thinks she only met her once and knows very little about her.

It's the Alaska Digital Archives, and there are two photos that were taken in 1950 of the Risch homestead. Charles and Martha originally settled there, and I'm guessing that at some point, Norman's brother, Clarence, took over the property. -Dawne

This message seeking information on the above was actually a request from Mary Thibaut. I use my employer''s computer and internet so messages often have his name or reference to him on them. At any rate, I am glad to hear from you. Will you be able to help me track down information on the family and descendants of Joseph Risch? If you can't, is there someone in the family who is interested in genealogy or at least interested enough to help me out? Please get back to me with an e-mail address or mailing address, and I will let you know what information I am looking for and need for this family tree project. Thank you for responding.
I may have some information for you regarding the Wachs side of your family. I just inherited genealogical research and documents from my grandparents, which is in disarray, and I have only just begun going through it. My grandfather Fred W. Kampe, Jr., was the son of Catherine Wachs from a previous marriage to Fred W. Kampe, Sr. I have all kinds of info including photos of members of the Wachs family (but sadly, only one of Catherine as a child). I would love to know what Catherine's life was like after her she became a Risch, since she had little contact with the Kampes after that. Also, I would love to know if you have any photos of her. Please e-mail me and I will tell you what I know of Catherine from my grandfather and if you will be patient with me, I will be sure to give you what family info I can for Wachs as I weed through it all. I literally have boxes of stuff (not all Wachs).

Hello again,
I received an obituary for Martha Kasten Risch from a very nice lady in Alaska:

Anchorage Daily News, Feb 9, 1980.
MARTHA K. RISCH
Funeral services for Martha K. Rische, 92, will be held Monday at Anchorage Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. The Rev. Rolland Fritz of the church will officiate. Burial will be in Angelus Memorial Park. She died Wednesday at her home in Anchorage. Born Aug. 9, 1887 in Manistee, Mich., she had lived in Alaska since 1941 coming here from Deer Lodge, Mont. She worked at Anchorage Laundry and Cleaners and retired from the Post Laundry on Elmendorf AFB as a supervisor in 1953. She was also a member of the Anchorage Lutheran Church. She is survived by two sons, Dr. C.D. Rische, of Anchorage and Charles Rische of Wenatchee, Wash.; three daughters, Mildred Manthey and Dorothy Matthews, both of Anchorage and Lucille McCann of Spokane Wash.; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild; two sisters, Rose Curtis of San Diego, Calif. and Linda Rische of Hartland, Wis; one brother, Henry Kasten of Madison, Wis. Pallbearers will be grandsons Robert Matthews, Dan Rische, Mike Rische, Jack rische, Robert (Jerry) Rische and Dr. William (Fred) Rische. Memorials may be made to the Anchorage Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.

Rose Curtis was my great aunt and Henry Kasten was my grandfather. I think that Linda Risch is actually a sister-in-law to Martha and not her sister.
Let me know if any of these names are familiar to you.
Thanks again, Dawne

Thank you for your reply. The Norman Risch that I have in my file was the son of Charles Risch and Jennie Elias. Charles' parents were August Reich and Augusta Boehm. Charles married Martha Kasten (my great aunt)June 9, 1909 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Martha was Charles' third wife. Norman Risch was born December 5, 1907 and died February 1973 in Anchorage, Alaska. Norman married Bess J. and had three children that I know of, Robert Jerry Risch, Pauline Risch and Norma Risch. Robert was born September 7, 1948 in Sedro Wooley, Washington and died April 18, 2004 in Anchorage Alaska. I don't know the births or death dates of Pauline or Norma. That's about all I have on Norman. Let me know if these names or dates are familiar to you. I have more information on some of the other Risch family members. Thank you again, Dawne

Risch Family in Wisconsin, Montana and Alaska

I'm hoping someone recognizes this family.

Martha Kasten b. Aug. 1887 married Charles Risch b.about 1878 in Wisconsin I believe. They were married about 1908 or 1909. Charles had two children from a previous marriage named Clarence b. May 1903 and Norman b. Dec. 1907. They moved to Montana where Charles and Martha had four more children that I know of. Charles b. about 1915, Lucile b. about 1920, Franklin b. about 1921, and Dorthy b. about 1925. I believe that Charles and Martha stayed in Montana at least until 1935, and moved to Anchorage Alaska sometime after that. From different records that I've found, it looks like Clarence and Norman settled in Alaska, Franklin stayed in Montana, Charles and Martha's son Charles moved to Washington, but I don't have any information on Lucile or Dorothy.
I'm looking for any information on this family, why and when they moved to Alaska, where they lived in Anchorage, information on the daughters, where Charles and Martha are buried, anything would be helpful. I have information to share on Martha's family.
Thank you for your time.

John Brunswick Risch - looking for his past

My great-great grandfather was John B. Risch - his birth year is 1843 - his tombstone is in the Gibtown, Texas cemetery. He married Mary Alice (aka Catherine) Gipson and they lived in both Upshur and Parker Counties of Texas. Here's my mystery: His mother, according to family legend, is Julianna Frye (a woman who was murdered in her later years on a hunting trip with a son - who was a Milwaukie/Chicago Risch - this is unconfirmed). The family legend says that John's father was William or Wilhelm Risch, who died in a napoleonic war before John was born (that would put it about 1842/3, right?). His middle name was Brunswick because that is the kind or name of the boat they came over on. He came with brothers, an older one who may be named Jacob. John and his brothers are rumored to have fought in the civil war, and engaged in vigilantism thereafter (they would have been very young). They all came from Alsace-Lorraine, around the Strasbourg area originally. There is supposed to be a great population of Rischs in the midwest that lost John. John himself was a stagecoach/andor/delivery goods hauler using a route between Texas and California. Does anyone have any information about my John or his brothers and mother? thanx aplenty. . .

Dawne: Charles b.5/17/1876 d.11/18/1965 was the first son of August Reich b.8/17/1852 d.2/3/1898 and Augusta Boehm b.8/6/1853 d.1/6/1927. August and Charles and eight other siblings arrived in the US on 12/12/1885 aboard the "America" into Baltimore. I don't think Augusta Boehm made the trip. The youngest son was my grandfather, August William Risch b.10/8/1885. Martha was actually his third wife. The others were Anna Otto m.6/5/1901 and Jennie Elias m.10/31/1906. I'd be interested in sharing more information with you.
Bob
