Henry Risch

Seeking info on my great-great grandfather Henry Risch. We beleive he immigrated from Germany but not sure. He married either a Margaret or Martha and had a son name James Christian Risch who lived and died in western Pennsylvania. There have been some hints that the name might have been Henry Rush, Henry Resh or Henry Resch. We are hitting a dead end in trying to find a connection to a Risch ancestor related to James Christian Risch from the Butler PA area.

I have Martin Risch born 27 Oct 1810, son of Christian Risch and Anna Mathis;,married Anna Hitz daughter Henrich Hitz of Saab on 06 July 1845; and died 06 March 1866. This was taken from the Conters church registers. I also found records for the baptisms of the children you listed except for Barbara. I will look and see if I can find any other marriage records for Martin. Let me know if you want anything else looked up. I have the Conters records and access to at least part of Saab. I am researching Risch from Conters...the family of Anna Risch who married Johannes Braun in Chur.

Yes, I am still interested in information about Martin Risch, although I have more to offer as well. He was born 1810 in Conters im Prattigau, Canton Graubunden, Switzerland. He married Anna Hitz in 1845, and they had six children before he died in 1866 in neighboring Saas im Prattigau. This was undoubtedly the event that led his surviving family to emigrate to the United States that same year.

Given that he was 35 at the time of his marriage to Anna, it is possible that he might have been married previously and had other offspring.
It was a beautiful tombstone and there was a second Charles buried there, along with the last name listed below. My Mother's last name is Risch and she grew up in Sarver Pennsylvania. I would be interested in finding out more about these people.
Charles Risch 1899-1963
Charles Risch 1934-1996
Lilly Risch 1902-1999
Bouzned Rhamouni 1939-2005

I work with the Helvetia Archives in Helvetia WV. We are working to gather information on the families that came to Helvetia (now and in the past)to help preserve the amazing cultural heritage that we have. Verena Risch Betler has quite a few family members in the area. You may already have most of what we have if you have the book written about the Betlers (I believe the title is 'From the Alps to the Appalachians'). I'll gladly share what I have with you. I was not aware of Verena's sister Marie and would very much like to add that branch of the family the geneology program that we have.

Also have a photograph of Mary Cornelia Haslebacher Betler if you're interested.

Anna Chandler

Hi Patrick

There's a chance your Risch family and my Risch family are related since Chatenois-les-Forges,France is across the Rhine River from my family's origins, Hugstetten, Baden, Germany, just northwest of Freiburg.

The original Risch families are scattered on both sides of the Rhine River in all directions for 200 miles or more. My family came to the USA in 1828. I have a lot of information on the Risches that I can share with you. You'll have to contact me directly at michael.risch@comcast.com.

I assume you are Canadian?

Regards,
Michael

In the early 1900's my grandfather received a letter from the goverment of Switzerland informing he the he was the last heir to the family castle and he would have to leave the U.S. to live there in order to claim it. He was told he could not sell it and the lands that he would have to give up his U.S.Citizenship and live there. He declined and he signed it over to Switzerland. His name was Heinrich J. Risch in Chicago. His father was Johan Risch. If anyone knows anything about this I would be grateful for information.

I live in Alexandria, VA. Do you lliv anywhere nearby? Waiting for you e-mail. Shirley Weil

I think you might want to start looking in the village of Wahlenheim, Alsace, France. Alsace and Lorraine are separate states now. The nearest large city where you might find records would be Strasbourg, Alsace, France.

I'm not sure but I think Shonlanke is now part of Poland.

The Risches are very common on both sides of the Rhein River and therer are many trees on this site that you can search.
Best of Luck

Theodore was a native of Wahlenheine, Alsace Lorrain. He was born June 19, 1878. He came to the United States when he was 12 and lived in Vincennes, Indiana. Moved to New London CT at age 21. He married Ernestine Schleese, who was originally from Stieglietz by Shonlanke Germany. They had 6 children Theodore, Ernest, Theresa, Helene, Anne and Mary. My father's mother is Theresa. I'm going to try and attach the obituaries and another article to this. This is all I know about the Risch side of the family. My father's father was killed when he was a baby. His mother gave him to her parents and sister to raise. My father never got over that. She married another man, and had another son. Let me know if there is any connection.

Hi Barry, I have DNA markers but have never used it in geneology research.
My ancestors also come from the Freiburg area. My family is one of three Risch tribes from the small village of Hugstetten which is a stones throw north west of Freiburg toward the Rhine River. One of the tribes there originated from a small village of Risch, Switzerland in the Canton of Zug.
