I was always told that we came from Germany, but later found out yes that it was English. There is a religious group over there that has all kinds of material, but I've not been able to find out anything.

I just recently went on Facebook and looked up Rising. They are everywhere. I contacted a couple in England and they said that would try to find out something for me.

I'm thinking it would be a good idea to start a group on Facebook for the Rising Clan or Family to see if we could get things tied together.

I'm from Dillon, SC but moved to Shallotte, NC in 1984. I just found out that my great grandfather was born in Lumberton, NC.

My grandfather was Wilbur Monroe Rising. He married Magnolia Brumbles. Her father was Andrew Brumbles and his wife was Sohpia Edwards. They moved from Lumberton to Dillon/Latta. When he died he was living with his daughter in Latta.

Hi Nancy,

It has been a long time since I tried to do anything with this stuff. I haven't even tried the Jacksons yet. I'm stuck on the Rising's at this time.

What do you need to know. I can talk to mom about it and see how much she remembers anyway. I need to do that in case something happens. I'll see what kind of names I can get though.

My home email is rtcorising@earthlink.net (910-640-2442) Call or email anytime you feel like it.

Randy

I am just beginning to look into my Rising line. My ancestor is Elizabeth Rising, b. 1761 in Suffield, dau. of James Rising and Elizabeth Laflen. At this time I know very little more than that.

Fantastic information Pam , thanks. Yes it is a bit confusing ...... I thought from the 1841 census that Elizabeth Rising (Ireland 1821)was the daughter in law/ Marthas mother. I presumed Marthas father was the son of Elizabeth & Thomas & was away/dead? Elizabeth Rising died young in 1844 which fits as she is not in the 1851 census with Grandmother Elizabeth Rising and Martha and John. Do you know from records that Elizabeth was the daughter and not the daughter in law , it just seemed a bit strange that she was born in Ireland. Maybe she is Elizabeth Brown & father was Thomas Rising? However I see Johns mother is Margaret Rising,so do you think John and Martha are cousins not siblings? Maybe I had it wrong all along!

Pam , do you actually know where Norwich Heigham is as I guess its an old town name as I can't find it on the map.

Now my connection is John T Rising(1842 Heigham) is my mother in laws grandfather. Although originally from Norfolk John settled in London and married Esther Laura Woodcock. They had a son John Alfred Henry Rising in 1877 , my mother in law was his daughter Dorothy Rising.

What is your connection? Also the family have always talking about a connection with the Rising brewery , do you know anything about this?

Yes you are my first Rising contact! If you prefer we can email direct? Sarah

No, Sarah. I don't know why, but I have a little more information than I had back in 2005. Let's see if I can get it straight!
From the 1841 census, Martha is with her grandparents Thomas (b c 1790 Norfolk) and Elizabeth (b c 1821 Ireland), and Elizabeth (daughter of Thomas b c 1821 Ireland). Thomas is a schoolmaster. The dwelling is Ten Bell Lane, Norwich.
From Pigot's 1839 Directory, Thomas is Master at the Roman Catholic School, Ten Bell Lane, Norwich, Catherine Brock the Mistress.
From the National Archives, a Thomas Rising served in the 7th Dragoons from 1805-1832, and was discharged at age 49. He was born at Windham Norfolk.
Brother John was born to mother Margaret Rising 14th April 1842, Heigham. No father named.
Martha arrived in Australia 31 October 1857 on the "Persian"; from Liverpool to Hobart. Bounty immigrant. Left L'pool 25/7/1857. Ship quarantined at Impression Bay on arrival. Fever; Ref. CB 7/12/8. "Age 19. RC. Read and write. Shoebinder. 16 Brit. pounds." Reel 14-6 P 33 Ref CB 7/12/8 (Interesting with the "can write" as she put her mark on her first wedding certificate.)
Martha married twice. It is on her second mariage certificate (1878) that she claims her parents were Thomas Rising (a carter) and Elizabeth Brown. I am inclined to believe that she put down her grandparents names to be "respectable". As I have not yet found her birth certificate I can't check this.
You are the first contact I have had with a Rising person. What is the connection?
Pam

Re: Mary Rising of Lyng, Norfolk, England

I am researching the Kittmers of England. Mary Rising married Benjamin Kitmer in 1719 and had a son Benjamin baptized in 1724, both events occurring in Elsing. After those recorded events and the sale of the Mermaid Inn in 1726, I lost them. This Benjamin (1724), son of Benjamin K and Mary Rising married Esther Tanton in Norwich and the family history continues from there. I assumed Benjn and Mary returned to East Dereham since Benjamin, the husband was noted as being "of East Dearham". However, I did research the parish register and found more Kittmers but not Benjamin and Mary. I've been reseaching the Ling parish register to find this family because I am assuming that Benjamin K and Mary Rising had more than one child. I've only just begun to read through the Ling parish register. I couldn't share any Rising information with you as Mary Rising is the first Rising I've come across. I would be happy to share the Kittmer lineage as from this point in time, they carry the Rising genes. I would appreciate knowing the Rising lineage, if you would share it. ...

My paternal grandmother was Mildred Pauline Rising, granddaughter of Rowland Rising and Lucy Hall. She was born in 1900 and died in 1995. My sister and I went to Fort Wayne and found a book on the Rising Family. The first one in the book was James Rising, who was born in 1617 in Lincolnshire, England, and came to America on the Dorset in 1635. My father (Mildred's second son) was in this book. Please e-mail me at the address above. I would like to talk with you further.

I'm looking for Horace and Sarah F Russel family in Rocky Hill, CT in the mid 1800's. Does anyone have info on them? Children listed in the 1850 census of Rocky Hill, CT as Rufus A. 21, Elizabeth A. 18, Sarah G. or J.14, Ellen E. 12, Sophia A. 9, Alice L. 6.

I'm researching Hayfords and know that a Lydia Russel(l) was married to John Hayford originally of Middleboro MA and later CT and later Warren and Washington Ctys. in NY. That John Hayford would be my 3rd great grandfather. John had a dau. Joannah who married a Rufus A. Rising.

Looking for a connection to my great grandmother (possibly the Elizabeth A above) who may have been raised by a Russel(l) family after the death of father Solomon Hayford in 1842, and possibly death of mother, also. There were 8 Hayford children but Elizabeth is the only name I know for sure.

I have no information on Solomon's wife's name.

Rising of Suffield, CT

Hi John,
My gggggrandmother was Susanah Rising (b. 31 Dec 1788), daughter of Elijah Rising (1753-1811) and Susannah Kent , both of Suffield, CT. She married Clifford Pincheon, who may be related to the famous Pynchon's of Springfield MA (and Suffield, CT). I would like to learn more about Clifford and Susannah.

Elijah Rising is the son of Aaron Rising & Sarah Hamblin, the grandson of John Rising and Mary Mackclaflin, and the great grandson of James Rising and Elizabeth Hinsdale. James Rising, age eighteen, sailed for the Bermudas from London 1635, was at Harvard College 1646; married Elizabeth Hinsdale, daughter of Robert, of Medfield, July 7, 1657; removed to Bermudas, returned to Salem, in a few years removed to Windsor, Conn., and was voted an inhabitant 1668, where his wife died 1669, as did another wife, Martha, April 20, 1674. Had James and John, and (perhaps) other children. He kept the ferry at Windsor; removed to Suffield 1679, where he died September 11, 1688. None other of the name among the early settlers of New England can be found; and he is probably the ancestor of all who bear it in this country. His son James died July 24, 1690, unmarried.

What is your connection to the Rising's of Suffield, John?

regards,
Karl

Just started on the Rising side of my husband's family. He is descended from Chauncey W. Rising's daughter Caroline who wed John Sanford in Kent Co. Michigan in 1889. The 1850 census for Niagara Co., NY shows S.S. Rising born in VT about 1806. 9 children are listed Charles, Ruth, Lodema, Chauncey, Sarah, Olive, Ely, and boy (3) and girl (1). Also living with them is Lydia Coleman age 82, related to wife Mary who was 37? Have you been able to make the connection to the Vermont Risings yet?

Mary Rising of Lyng, Norfolk, England

Is there anyone out there that has had occasion to research the Rising family in central Norfolk? I have a Mary Rising in my ancestry. She married Benjamin Kitmer in Elsing in 1719. She and her husband sold the Mermaid Inn, Church St., Elsing in 1726. They had one son, Benjamin baptised in Elsing in 1724 and then disappeared from that parish. I suspect they moved to East Dereham, but that is not proven.

Really helpful info on Rising line as I was not aware that Martha had emigrated to Australia. Do you know why? Very keen to find out more details as only have managed to go as far back as far as Thomas Rising (1782) and Eizabeth Rising (1788).
