Dear Kathy,

I am the grandson of Elbert, great-grandson of Florence. I knew Virginia well. Virginia most recently lived in St. Louis and I had regular contact with her until about 9 years ago when she entered assisted living. I have only seen one picture of Florence. If the picture is of Florence, she should have an unusual, though attractive, flat place at the tip of her nose, almost a dimple.

I never knew of a Paul. Lee Roy was called "Red," or simply "Roy," and passed away in the 70s I believe.

Rob Risley

I think I might have info on James Risley's parents. I have a scan of a birth certificate from Canada that says Elias Risley and Ann Huckleberry had a son James Elias in March 25, 1828. James is a popular name obviously, but seems to fit.

Also I have Joseph Roland Risley's in my husband's family that I am researching and would appreciate any information on them. Someone was asking about N.E. Ohio....I know at least some of these Risley's were in Michigan and then Ohio and then Tampa and other parts of Florida.

I am not sure how this board works,,please contact me through here if you can I don't want to post my email if I do not have to.

Thanx

Denise

My name is Sarah, and I'm truly interested in finding out more about my family history.

I know quite a bit about my mother side, the Hoods, but I know hardly anything of my fathers side, the Risleys.

I do know that I have Irish & Native American descent, but I'm not sure which tribe. I was told that the native american comes from my dads mothers side, the Robinsons, and that they could perhaps be Arapahoe.

If anyone knows anything about these family histories, let me know. And I may be able to help with anyone trying to learn about the Hoods.

Lamar114:

Sorry it has been so long since your query...my wife reminded me of it yesterday...my father-in-law is the son of Richard Risley BEAVENS, E.L. Massie BEAVENS was his grandfather. I know that Winifred's headstone in Austin has a name of EVANS below her name Winifred K. BEAVENS. (b. 27 Jun 1900 d. 15 Jun 1945) I haven't found anything on a marriage for her other than her name mentioned in her aunt's obituary in Houston in 1937. It says: "Mrs. Winifred EVANS of Austin" but, my f-i-l says that she was an Episcopal nun; I haven't proved that either. There is a family plot at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston where Christopher Columbus BEAVENS and Louisa A BEAVENS and some of their children are buried. Including Capt. C. Conway BEAVENS and Miss Emily
C. BEAVENS. As for Sammy STINSON; that was Richard Risley BEAVENS' second wife. His first wife was Annie Gladys NABORS. Write me directly and I can email photos and cemetery plot location.
Re: Risley and Smith in Glastonbury

I'm helping my husband research his Glastonbury Smith ancestors. He is descended from Edgar's & Andrew Clark's brother Charles Smith. I've hit the same wall with the Risely family, with no verifiable documentation. However, I do know that Andrew Clark & family moved to Cromwell, CT. He died June 2, 1915 is buried in the Old Center Cemetery in Cromwell. His obit was published in The Hartford Courant, June 4, 1915, page 9. Edgar moved to Hartford,CT, where he died May 28, 1912. His obit was published in The Hartford Courant, May 29, 1912, page 9. I haven't found where he's buried yet. They both worked for the Hartford & New York Transportation Company. I've been hoping to try & track down local family who may have family records such as bibles or the like. Unfortunately, my husband's aunt was the family record keeper, and when she died, all her effects were held by her husband's family, and as they didn't have children, everything went to his nieces/nephews, who we haven't been able to track. I'd be curious to hear if you've been able to connect these Smiths to Jeduthan Smith(1709-1781) or his son Jedediah Smith (1764-1826), both of Glastonbury.

Mary Frances Risley, b 1850 OH - d unk MI

Hello-

I am looking for information on the family of my great-great-grandmother. Her name was Mary Frances Risley and she was born 12 May 1850 in Ohio.

I do not know anything about her parents for certain other than according to the 1880 census; they were both born in Ohio.

In the 1860 census for Madison, Vinton Co, Ohio, I found a family with 8 year-old Mary F. Risley which was headed by James and Hannah Risley. James was born in Ohio around 1815 and mother Hannah was born around 1824 in Pennsylvania. Other children include Julean, Eliza, and Ellen.

Mary Frances Risley married Albert Scott Bowdish (aka Scott Bowdish or Scott Albert Bowdish) on 20 March 1868, where I do not know. Albert Scott Bowdish was born in New York in 1848 and died in Sault Ste Marie, Chippewa Co, Michigan in 1896. I have found that Mary Frances Bowdish died in Sault Ste Marie, but in what year I do not know.

Mary and Scott had seven children (Mina, Myrtle, Morris, Maude, Stanley, William, and Ida). At least three of these children died while infants. Mina, Myrtle and Morris would later move to Los Angeles, California.

Any help on this line would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Matthew McDonald
matthewsmcdonald@hotmail.com

Hello I'm William Stevens my Risley was Fern Risley (my grand mother) born 1912 Nassau New York, she is listed in the 1920 census living with her grand parents Lewis (57years old)born in Egg Harbor N.J , Lyda(53) Risley born N.J , and Anna Risley(4) I assume her sister born Nassau New York. Listed Bridgeport Fairfield Connecticut. Living right next door was a Oswald (27), Ethel (30),Blanche (5),Owen(3),and Elance(1) Risley all but Oswald in this family were born in Nassau New York. I dont know but I'm wondering if Oswald and Ethel could be Ferns parents.Fern is also listed in the 1930 census with my grandfather Arthur Stevens in Tuckerton N.J, Fern died in 1936 Well thats what I have found what a puzzle. I'm very interested to know if anyone knows the answer?

James Risley had a son named Paul James who was born in Michigan about 1860. His wife was Kate Kissinger(Catherine) and one of their children was Guy Herbert Risley. He was my grandfather and was married to Maxine Haney. They had 2 children; my father, Guy Herbert Risley and Joy Risley(Critchlow). My father was married to Patricia Somers and had 4 children; Ken,Dana(me), Mike, and Carol.
My sister did a tree for the Haney side of the family a few years ago, but I had no information on the Risley side. Any information you have would be great. My email is sd2ks@yahoo.com.
Dana

Risley, b. 25 Sep 1892, and Ray Joseph Roland Risley, b. 9 Mar 1893. Unfortunately, I do not know in which part of Ohio they lived at the time.

Other than that James Risley’s parents were born in Canada and New York and Mary E. Sprague’s parents were born in New York and Massachusetts, at this time I have no additional information about their ancestors. I do have some information concerning their descendents and would, of course, be happy to send you a couple of PDFs if you give me your email address.

It may helpful to me to narrow my focus if you let me know the full names of both you and your parents. I can trace my ancestry in this country to Richard Risley about 1634 in Hartford, Connecticut, and based on this, I think any relationship between James Risley and I would be very distant. Having said that, I am very interested in learning about all branches of the Risley family tree in North America and I have compiled about 30,000 related names in my Risley genealogy database. I certainly would like to include additional information about your branch of the Risley family tree.

In summary, I’ll help in any way that I can right now and my future research may uncover additional information related to you ancestors.

Clark
Based on my research your Mary Frances Risley's parents are not James Risley (b. 28 Feb 1816, OH) and Hannah Stanley (b. 1825, PA). They did have a daughter Mary F. Risley (b. Apr 1852, Vinton County, Ohio) who married Allen Albaugh (b. Jun 1844, Ohio) on 24 Feb 1868 in Vinton County, Ohio. U. S. Census reports for 1870, 1880, 1900, and 1910 are consistent on this matter.

It is also interesting that Scott Albert Bowdish and Mary Frances Risley had a son named Stanley Bowdish, which just happens to be the maiden surname of the other Mary F.'s mother Hannah.

Also, a source posted on the LDS FamilySearch web site purports that Scott Albert Bowdish and Mary Francis Risley were married on 20 Mar 1868 in Jackson County, Michigan.
