I am a Risner Descendent but I don't think from the same as you have listed. We came from Bennington, Oklahoma. I have traced it to William Risner and Iva Lawson. My grandfather is not actually listed on this site, but those are his parents.

Wow! You're right there near Nowata.
After Grady died, I talked to his wife. I think she was his 2nd or 3rd wife?? but not sure which one. She said they knew very little except that King David was his father. I wonder if she is still alive although she doesn't know anything about the family.
This is off the subject but my maternal family of Rileys lived in Nowata. My Eliz. Risner married Rufus Riley, a Cherokee, and I think he or his father was the Sheriff of Nowata and someone said his picture was hanging in the City Hall or somewhere there. They had a big family and probably some are still living in the area.
Well, if Grady was correct in saying that my Martha was his aunt, all the Risners who lived in Bryan Co. are related to King David but we just can't figure out where his father fits into our family. Yes, I know most of the ones living but they didn't know about Grady at all. I found him and contacted him since we already had a Grady descendant in our family and thought, surely, he was related somehow which he confirmed. I think he might have been born in Bryan Co.?? but will have to prove that and look for his father there.
Since Elizabth Risner Riley lived right there in the area of Nowata that is probably how they all kept in touch.
Sooner or later we'll make this connection and I now have someone to do the Risner DNA in our line and looking forward to those results.

Will keep you posted and you can email my pc at:
wmscan@att.net.

Clydene

Her maiden name was Parker. Do you know of any other Risner's that live in Oklahoma that was related to them. I live near Nowata myself. I'll let you know if I find anything else.

Teresa

It seems like there was a lady near Nowata that I met one time that was related on that side, I will see if I can find out who that was.

Thanks! I think King David's father was Thomas Henry Risner and his mother was a Morgan? I think Juli gave that information as I recall.

I've talked to both Grady Risners some years back and both ARE related to my Risners in Bennington, Bryan Co., OK. Now, I'm trying to figure out how Grady Risner who lived in Nowata, OK when he died is related to us. That makes you and I cousins of some kind. Do you live in OK I remember finding a document, stating that a Goforth woman said her parents arranged her marriage to my great great uncle, Atwood Colburt Risner, but he married Elmira Peters instead....ha ha. That's where I remember the Goforth name in Bryan Co., OK. Sound familiar at all? This is probably your married name, right?
I'm wondering if Thomas Henry Risner is the son of Andrew Jackson Risner of TN?? My George W. Risner was in Warren Co., TN and Andrew Jackson Risner was in Wayne Co., TN if my memory serves me well. George W. named his first son Jacob but he was often called "Jackson". Seems like that might be the connection but I can't find any proof of that. Clydene
Michael Risner (b.1841) Magoffin, KY - Questions on who is who

I have been doing some census research on the Risner family in Eastern Kentucky, and I have a Michael Risner (b.1841), son of Jacob Risner and Mary Ann (Marshall.) In the 1880 census, according to my research, he lives in Magoffin with wife Martha (Hamilton??), and several children, and next door to his younger brother Marshall and his family. In the family trees posted online, however, this Michael Risner is not the Michael who is married to Martha Hamilton; that Michael is the son of James Risner and Margaret Adams.

Can anyone clarify which Michael is married to Martha Hamilton, and then, the Michael who is not married to Martha - who is he married to?

Do you have anything new on King David Risner and his son Grady who resided in Nowata, OK?

I found my phone notes when I talked to Grady Risner of Nowata, OK long ago before he passed away.

He said my Great Grandmother, Martha Risner Wiler, was his Aunt. (We also have another Grady descendant (proven) but I won't confuse the issue and get into that now). I am trying to find out who King David Risner's parents are if anyone knows.

This confirms that both Grady Risners are in the same Risner Family and that my Great Grandfather, George W. Risner b. 1817, was related to the same Risner's King David Risner was, possibly in AR. Clydene

Clydene

Dear Shelby - A y-DNA project has been started for the surnames Risner/Risener/Reisner. One of the objectives of the project is to confirm that the "northern" and "southern" Risners are related back to a common ancestor.

As Juli Morgon mentioned in previous e-mails, the test can only be done on male members who still carry the surname. Are there any males of the above surname in your family that might be interested in participating in a y-DNA project? If so, please get back in touch with me for more details.

Best Regards - Robert Risner, rrisner@halltechinc.com

Hi Michele, I, too, am a grand daughter of Hans Michel Risner. I have a little info but would like more. Hans was born about 1707. He was married to Catherine Honeycull or Honeycutt (spelling didn't seem to matter a lot back in the 1700's). His son Micheal, died in 1805 in Knox, KY. I don't have a birth date yet but he was born in Lee, VA. He was also married to a Catherine(no maiden name yet). She was born in 1740/50 and died 1836/40 in Harlan, Ky. Micheal's son Micheal"Mike" Risner,Jr. was born in 1790 in Scott, VA and died between 1864-1866. He was married to Sally Howard in 1808. His son James was born 1809 in Scott, Va and died June 30. 1899 in Magoffin, KY. He married Margaret"Peggy" Adams June 29, 1828 in Liberty, Floyd Co., KY. James' son Martin was born March, 1835 in Floyd, KY and died after 1910.He married Cynthia "Cythy" Ann Whitaker Feb 26, 1857. Their daughter, Ellender Minnie Risner was born Sept. 18, 1861 and married Edmond Collinsworth July 20, 1877. Their daughter, Emily, was my great, great grandmother.
Michele Mullins, WV
