Mrs. D.O. Massie, Mrs. M.H. Ebersole, and Mr. L. D. Pifer acted as host and hostesses Sunday at a golden wedding anniversary celebration given as a surprise in honor of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Pifer, at their house at Reliance, VA. Mr. Pifer is 71 years of age and Mrs. Pifer is 72, both enjoying the best of health.
A plate lunch was served, with all decorations carrying out the gold color scheme. Mrs. Clinton Ebersole presides at the punch bowl. One of the feature decorations was a large golden cake baked by Mrs. Fred Ridings. Mrs. Pifer wore an old-time dress approximately 80 years old and carried a bouquet of golden blossoms made and presented by Mrs. Pauline Meredith of Hagerstown, Md.
The guests present numbered about 115 and included: Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Pifer, Mr. and Mrs. J. Von, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Hicks and C. the five-month-old grandson of Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Pifer, was the youngest son present, and Mrs. Mary C. Beeler (Mary Catherine Ritenour Beeler), 81-year-old sister of Mrs. D.E. Pifer, was the oldest guest present.
Mr. and Mrs. Pifer received many beautiful gifts in remembrance of the occasion.
