My great great grandfather on my mother's side was Monroe Rittenberry and his wife was Sarah Francis Uhles. Their daughter was Evie Lois Rittenberry which was my grandmother. I am starting research on this side of my family, any help or information that anyone could offer to share would be great.

I know someone who is directly related to Elizabeth Rittenberry, b. abt 1881 - lived & died in the Sparta area.

The 1920 census shows "Eliza" widowed with the following children:
Ona Belle b. abt 1903; Paul b. abt 1905; Dalle (Dolph) b. abt 1907; Chester b. abt 1910; Earnest b. abt 1911; Mary b. abt 1913; Eron b. abt 1916.

If this family line sounds familiar, let me know and I can put you in touch with one of Mary's daughters who still lives in the Pleasant Hill/Sparta area.

Charles: Thanks for the info, but the George R. I am looking for was the son of Daniel and Mary, they had 11 children, there was a George here in Clarksville but it is not the same one, George R. never left Putnam County he is believed to have died around 1915 or so, Louisa his wife lived a lot longer but can't find any info on them. Thanks again.

Armsted Rittenbury born in N.C. Russell County Va Census 1860 has him 23 years old.

Married Mary Ann Puckett they had 2 children John J and George.

Armsted died June 14 1863 in Richmond VA

Mary Ann married Berry Hill Talbert

They move to Lawrence County Kentucky John J was living with them in 1880.

1900 census Lawrence County has him married to Mandy McDowell they had six children and only five Living.

Nashville,Tn. Died marsh 1880.
He was married to Martha E.Wormelsduff on june 9 1852.
she wasborn abt. 1827 in crittenden co. Ky.
they had a son James Writtenberry (1860-1913)
married Jenny C Nunn.
When James Alfred came to Ky., he changed his name from
Rittenberry to Writtenberry . He lived in Marion Ky.

Hello Anna, I have a record from Smith Co. TN marriages stating that Louisa Mae Gass married William R Rittenberry Nov. 23, 1864 in Smith County, Tennessee. A fellow researcher, Ardis Taylor of Lisbon, ND told me that Louisa later married George R Rittenberry, b. 1855. Louisa was living with her grandson, Bob Rittenberry, in 1930. We do not know which marriage he was from. Louisa also had a half-sister, Martha L Taylor, who married James Henry Rittenberry. I talked to a descendant, George Vaden, then found out that his grandmother, Della Rittenberry, had been adopted. My computers are broken. I am now at the Logan County Public Library. There was a George R Rittenberry in Dist. 11 of Putnam Co. in 1880 who married Louisa Gass who had previously been married to William Rittenberry. At that time their children were listed as Laucurgle? 10, Martha 5, Mary 1 & a sister Jinny H Rittenberry 31 lived with them, also a nephew, Silvester Rittenberry. This from Neal Taylor

Hi,

I guess it would be Richard G. Rittenberry, Jr., b. 10 Jun 1845, Jackson, TN and d. 10 Apr 1924 Bloomfield, Stoddard Co., MO, that was my husband's greatgrandfather.

Richard G. Rittenberry, Jr. married Elizabeth Hafford in Illinois 23 Oct 1866.

They had several children; one of which was William Poley Rittenberry, b. 22 Oct 1881 or 1876 IL and d. 1951 Lake City, Craighead Co., AR.

William Poley Rittenberry had about five wives, but his third one was Mabel Tennessee Kiker whom he married in 1919. She was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Kiker of Jonesboro, Craighead Co., AR. She was the widow of Joe Cloud and already had six children. She ran a boarding house in Lake City, Craighead Co., AR.

William Poley Rittenberry and Mabel had three children. The first was Lila Mae Rittenberry, b. 29 May 1923. Girl twins were born in 1926, of which one died soon after. Mabel died soon after, also.

The remaining twin, Shirley Mabel Rittenberry, was adopted by a couple from Toledo, Ohio. I forget what was their last name that she took.

Shirley Rittenberry married Nile Wilson in Toledo, Ohio in the mid- 1940's sometime. They were Catholic and had eleven children. She died in 1964.

Lila Mae Rittenberry married and had one son. She died June 16, 1982.

William Poley Rittenberry had at least three other children from previous marriages. Only one survived to adulthood, Myrtle Rittenberry, b. 1912, from marriage number two. She married Ardell Ketchum in Lake City, AR. They moved to Laverne, CA. She just died 29 Dec 2005 in Los Angeles, CA. She is survived by a grandson and two granddaughters and their children.

That's most of the Rittenberry family that I know of.

name was Earl Glen Writtenberry b.1923 d.2000, his father was Earl Sr. d.1972, his father was James Written
-berry 1860-1913, his father was James A. Writtenberry
1831-1880(changed the spelling) and his father wasyour g grandfather, Richard G. Rittenberry 1808-1855.
