I may be a descendant of this family, but to try to remove the uncertainty, I would like to get in touch with Barbara Ritter Morgenstern. The Email address on the website no longer works. Do you know how to reach her?

My descendancy is through Anna Elisabeth RITTER who married Heinrich Schneider. Is that, by any chance, your branch?

Jon

I know it's been about 89 years since this post was made, but I'm wondering if anyone is still researching this family, and willing to trade info. I'm looking for descendants of Austin and Louisa Ritter. (Austin b. 1814, lived in Ohio, then Illinois, then most of his life in Iowa, then moved back to Ohio, where he died. Both his first wife (Louisa) and his second wife (Catherine) are buried in Osage, Iowa. From what I can tell, Austin had three sons, Philetus, George, and Wilfred. The Harlan in your post is Philetus' son. I'm a descendant of one of Philetus' OTHER children. I'm not having much luck finding descendants of the rest of the family.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Ann Arbor, Michigan ritters

Hi, I am in the process of putting together a historical research book for the Canton Historical Society of an historic and note worthy old Canton Farm House that your family, Elton W. Ritter, Ann Fergehtie Ritter, Cheri, Ronald and little Vickie Ritter lived in 1945-abt 1958. The old farm was located in Canton, Michigan on Canton Center Road and my research will be from 1833 - 1973. I have been reseaching the families and property for now going on 7 years and one of the missing families are the Ritter family. I am excited to see your posting and so hope you may help me. I am looking for information on the old farm house and the updates the Ritter family made to it as well as the Ritter families'stories of the community and the Bartlett School they attended during their years there. I only can help you with the information of your Great-Grandfather Gustav (Guss) Ritter and his wife Hazel V. Ritter that I obtained from the 1920 and 1930 census sheets. In 1920 the family lived in Romulus, Wayne, Michigan and Guss was from listed as from Germany with Hazel being listed as being born in Michigan. Guss and Hazel have 6 children; Alice, Ethel, Gerald, Elton, Glen and Doris. The family moved than to Nankin, Wayne County, Michigan in the 1930 census. I have your grandfather Elton Ritter being born Jun 3, 1912 and his death as May 9, 1978 in Howell, Livingston County, Michigan. If you could contact me or get me in touch with your Aunt Cheri (she would know more about the remodeling of the home); or your father Ronald would perhaps be helpful. The reseach and contribution of this history would be of great help to me and my research. I look forward to your return email.

Adam Ritter DOB 6/20/1888 Milities Hungary

I am looking for any information on Adam Ritter. He was born 6/20/1888 in Milities Hungary.
Arrived in the US in 1907 on the La Lorraine. He was a tailor by trade but probably worked other jobs as well, especially after he left Manhattan.

He married Marie Kitsch in Ohio somewhere between 1907 and 1910. I can trace him up to the 1930 Census. He was my great-grandfather. He left his family (I believe about 1939) to seek work elsewhere-the family in 1930 was living in Manhattan. He never returned to his family.

In 1930 he had 4 children but I believe there was a 5th after 1930. In 1930, he was 41 years old. It was rumored that he sought employment at the World's Fair. It is possible that he also ended up in Michigan?
Known places lived:
Cleveland, Ohio (1910 Census)
Manhattan, NY (1930 Census)
Any help locating Adam would be greatly appreciated!
Bronx NY (1920 Census)
Yhank You!!!
Beth Ritter

My gggg grandparents were John RITTER/RUTTER and Mary E. STINSMAN/STINSON/DINSMAN/STONEMAN/etc. They were the parents of

Mathias RITTER married Mary Ann VANCE born about 1825 in Ireland. They eventually moved to Camden, NJ

George RUTTER born 1833 in Philadelphia married an Emma Matilda who's mother's maiden name was DUFFY/DUFFEE?. These were my ggg grandparents. They lived in the Southwark section of Philadelphia all throughout the census years.

Anna RUTTER born about 1835 in Philadelphia married George CROMLEY/CRUMLEY/CROWLEY?

The following 3 brothers are definitely connected to my tree but I haven't found the common link yet since I do not know who their parents are...

John RUTTER born about 1821 in PA married Margaret GOUGH/GOFF born about 1824 in PA.

Joseph RUTTER born about 1826 in PA married an Emma born about 1830 in PA

Bishop RUTTER born about 1828 married? to a Theresa V.

My grandmother told me that the HETZEL/HANSELL?s were related through one of her RUTTER cousins and also that there was a Heber RUTTER that was related.

While I was trying to find the HETZEL/RUTTER connection I found the following information which adds 2 more RUTTER branches to my tree but of course with no common link...

Southwark Ward 5 1850 census

Robert RUTTER age 47 baker
Mary age 43
George W. age 22
Elizabeth age 18
Mary J. age 14
William DURRAND age 13
Elizabeth CALHOUN age 10

very next family enumerated...

Jacob HETZELL age 35
Matilda age 32
Mary A age 11
Margaret age 9
Jacob L. age 9 or 1
Jacob SLOAN age 15

When I searched for Robert in the 1870 census I found the following informationRobert RUTTER age 67
Mary age 58
Elizabeth age 30
Mary J. age 24

Enumerated a few houses before is the following family...

Anna RUTTER shop keeper age 48
William L. age 23
Jacob B. age 19
Joseph J. age 16
James R. age 13
Emma MARKER age 16

I do not have this particular Emma MARKER connected to my tree yet but Sarah RUTTER born Oct 1851 in Philadelphia, a daughter of my ggg grandparents George and Emma RUTTER, married Adam William MARKER/MERKER/MAERKER/etc born about 1849 in PA. I am about 99.999% sure that that she fits into his family somewhere.

Now, a RUTTER family with a Heber in it in the 1880 census T9 1181 p. 260d

Margaret H. There are so many of them and I think at least most of the Pennsylvania RITTER/RUTTER families are connected through blood. marriage, friends or business.

Happy hunting!
Ella

Looking for ANY info on the parentage of John Jacob Ritter of SC. He married Anna Mary Hiott in Colleton County in 1833. I've seen some who identify his father as Jesse, but I have nothing concrete to substantiate that claim. I have hit a serious brick wall. Any help is greatly apppreciated.

Emilie Ritter

An Emilie Ritter age 20 immigrated to the US from Germany on June 7, 1881 on the ship Oder. Next to her on the passenger list are my great grandparents Gustav Carl and Auguste Bluevnick Rosentreter. Gustav and Auguste went to Chicago then to Ironwood, Michigan and finally to Oswego, Oregon. Perhaps Emilie was related to them.
The only similar Emilie Ritter listed on Ancestry.com died on February 25, 1916 in Portland, Oregon. Probably in the influenza epidemic.
If any of you might have more info on the 1881 Emilie please let me know.

Thank you, Sharon Sue Harris Marvin

Cynthia: I found your email that I had printed out but I don't think I ever replied to you. I would love to have the photo of Arbie and family. I have Jame's Death Certificate and one photo of he and his wife, Emma Jane Miller Ritter. James and Emma had 4 children: (1) James Leonard Ritter, b. 14 Nov. 1913 d. 24 Aug. 2001 (2) Christine Ritter b. ca 1916 (3) Leta Ritter b. ca 1918 and (4) Melvin Ritter b. 10 Apr. 1922 d. 7 Sept. 2007.

James and Emma were in a serious automobile accident in Brownsville, Texas around 1 Mar. 1955. About 5 days later, James passed away due to his injuries. Emma recovered and went back home. Emma was b. 8 Feb. 1894 in Panola County, Texas and d. 10 Mar. 1972 in Plainview, Hart County, Texas. Please let me know if you need anything further, and I would still love to have the photo. Thank you for posting the message.
