Hattie Tacey(Rivard)(Hugo) married Albert Rivard who died in an industrial accident in Bay City, Michigan in 1903. This was my great-grandfather. The Albert referred to that died in the last 50s was my grandfather. If you are member of ancestry.com you can find all the details I have posted on my family tree (newspaper articles about the industrial accident, obits, etc.). However, since this message was originally posted in 2000 and it is now 2009, you have probably already discovered these items I posted.

Do you know who the last person in Canada was and if they had siblings? My family moved to the US only a generation ago, but there has been speculation that several generations back someone married into an Indian tribe. The furthest I have been able to trace was my great-great-grandfather, Charles Rivard, but I dont have any dates (probably born a decade or two before the turn of the century). I know that we are part of the family that immigrated from France to Quebec. I haven't been able to find a lot of records due to rezoning in rural Ontario which seems to have lost quite a few birth certificates and such.

I'm searching for descendents of this family or anyone researching these names. They were my husband's great-great-grandparents, and were born, married and raised their family in Batiscan, Quebec.

I have found both Veillett and Rivard family trees on-line that show this couple, but wonder about the accuracy of all the information. I do have documentation of their son Eugene which provides his birth place of Batiscan in 1862, and his marriage in Escanaba, Michigan in 1887 to Matilda (Tillie) Peltier.

I was born and raised in Chebanse and presently live in Springfield.
Tomorrow I hope to have more time to devote to your last missive. I just received several more pubs from Iroquois Co.

Hi Dee,
I am from Iroquois County, IL so I have many resources available.
I did find the county death certificates for my great grandparents and it lists Julia Rivard as the mother of Nellie White (LeBlanc-original French version) and William (Wollaston) White (LeBlanc) as her father. Julia is a sister to Angela Rivard. They also had another sister, Mary. From there I found the county marriage information (but did not pick up the actual documents to deciffer the writing for myself) which lists Reecher Rivard as father, (I am sure that is Eugene Eucher Rivard from census info) and Angele LeSage as mother. According to Illinois marriage information Julia married David LeSage after William died. In trying to find out more about David Lesage I found that Eugene appears to have married 3 different Lesage women. I was hoping that you might be able to tell me more about the family but, I will go back to the court house and contact the L'Erable Church for more information. I am also trying to find the parents of Eugene Rivard and Angele Lesage. From the census images and documents that I presently have, I have found what appears as wrong information posted to the internet and I hope to clear it up.
If there is any information that I can gather for you please do not hesitate to ask. If you descend from Angela Rivard then we are distantly related. I have found that I am distantly related to most people in this area. These French families all tie in together. Have a nice evening. Brenda

Brenda, I have precious little on the Rivard family; my Angela married Augustin Vaillancourt and I have as her parents Michael Rivard and Angelique with no maiden name, regrettably.
If you think this is the same family, I will happily share with you what I have on the Vaillancourts. Let me know.
Happy to hear from you; also I do have some publications from the Iroquois and Kankakee Counties in Illinois where my Vaillancourt families lived if there is anything I can look up for you.
Best personal regards --
Dee

Re: Joseph and Lydia Rivard

That 1920 census is all I have for the Rivards. Joseph Rivard was married to the daughter (Lydia or Liddie) of the grandmother (Bridget Welch) of my grandmother (Mary Sweeney). I believe Lidia Welch Rivard was actually my grandmother's birth mother. A 1910 census shows the Welch's and the Haleys and the Sweeneys all together in one place. A notation on that censuse cites Mary Sweeney as Bridget's granddaughter. Ten years later Mr. Rivard and Liddie (Lydia) are married, Bridget is listed as the mother in law and Mary as a boarder. Any help would be appreciated. I believe Bridget was married to a James Welch from the midwest. I believe the Sweeneys came from Ireland through Canada over a 50 year period. Thank you so much.

I have several relatives buried there and some who are very very distantly related to me. Its been several years since I have been down there and I have a master list (somewhere in my files). If you have the coordinates, take it to their front office and they can look up the plot number for you.

Typically in my experience angels were reserved for children who died either in infancy or before they reached puberty.

If you ever get some time, you need to peruse the photo sections from the 1900s-1920s on the tombstones. Its sad that some of them were destroyed but some of them are really interesting. I could spend all day there.
