GEORGE ALPHONSE RIVIERE
George A RIVIERE, vice consol of France and consol of Greece at Mobile, passed away at the Mobile Infirmary Tuesday afternoon as the result of an attack of paralysis which he suffered several days ago. From the first little or no hope was expressed for his recovery, the patient gradually sinking until the end came.
George ALPHONSE RIVIERE was born in Charl-les-Roi Seine, France, on December 23, 1859, and was the son of COL Paul RIVIERE of the French Army who lost his life during the war between France and Germany.
In his early manhood, after service in the French Army in Africa, he came to America and first settled in California but later came to the South, living for some years in Florida before coming to Alabama.
He was married in Athens GA, December 23, 1894 to Miss Ruby May Thurmond, who, with one son and three daughters, survive him.
Mr Riviere was a member of fraternal organizations, among which were the orders of Elks, Red Man, Beavers, Moose, and Knights of Pythias. Mr Riviers has one sister, residing in France, near Paris, whom he visited about a year ago.
