WEST SWANZEY MAN IS FATALLY HURT IN CRASH
Arthur M. Rixford, 71, Victim of Accident On Railroad Crossing

West Swanzey. Aug. 10- Arthur M. Rixford, 71, of the Cobble Hill road, West Swanzey, was fatally injured shortly before 7 o’clock Wednesday night when the automobile he was driving on the Lake road, was in collision with the Boston & Maine gasoline train at Tombstone crossing.
Mr. Rixford, riding alone, was on his way to his home at the time of the accident. The car was caught in the front of the train and pushed along the rails for about 200 feet, according to Trooper Chester L. Hartwell.
The victim was pinned inside the automobile. Dr. Walter H. Lacey of Keene, medical referee for Cheshire county, viewed the body. It was removed to the Fletcher funeral home in Keene.
The train was in charge of Martin J. Hogan, engineer; Claude Lovell, conductor and A. D. Gordan, baggage man.
Mr. Rixford was born in Swanzey, Feb. 15, 1879, a son of Lock and Hattie (Davis) Rixford. Besides his wife, the former Cora I. Talbot, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Archie Fulford and Mrs. John V. Jardine, both of West Swanzey and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be held in the funeral home of Charles F. Fletcher Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery, West Swanzey. Rev. James Quimby, pastor of the Methodist church in Keene, will conduct the service.
Mr. Rixford had been employed by the Swanzey Highway Department about four years. Previously he had been employed by Winfred Fuller on his farm on Winchester street in Keene.
