Re: RIZK - New Brunswick, NJ

My maiden name is Rizk, and I was born in New Brunswick, NJ in 1945. There are some Josephs in the family line, including my father, who was Francis Joseph Rizk (1912-1981). He was born in NJ and told me his parents came from Syria. I think there was also a brother Kenneth who drowned as a boy, but I'm not sure about that. I know very little about the family, as we moved to TExas when I was 2. I have tried to phone some of the relatives whose names I do remember, but have run into a dead end, or found unlisted numbers.

Re: RIZK - New Brunswick, NJ

My Grandfather was Joseph K. Rizk. He had 3 sons and 1 daughter, Kenny, Danny, Sam, and Elizabeth. His wife was Afeefie, who's mother was Mary Katra. Joseph K's father (my Greatgrandfather) was Kallil. This all according to my baby book.

I was told that Kenny never had kids. Danny had 1 daughter, Greta, who married Joseph Shamy. They lived for some time in NJ, and now in Florida. My father was Samuel who had me, of course, and my brother John. Elizabeth married Leo Ryan and they had a daughter, MaryLou and a son. I think his name was Robert.

If this agrees with what you know, please tell me. My sons have finally developed an interest in their heritage and want me to find out everything I can. We are in Kansas City. The last time I saw/spoke with the NJ side of the family was around 1975.

Thank you for helping.

My great-grandfather was also named Joseph Rizk. In looking for info on him I came across a Joseph Rizk in New Brunswick, NJ. The 1920 census schedule shows a wife that could be Affifi. You can find him in Middlesex County, ED 18, Page 9B, Line 93

If that's him, let me know. I might have his passport application.

Salom Rizk book

I don't know if you are aware of this, but Salom Rizk wrote an autobiography back in the 1940s called "Syrian Yankee". It is out-of-print, but available through companies like Bibliofind or Amazon. I read the book several years ago, but I don't remember if there was much family history. It was a very interesting book, though. Hope this helps.

Eric
