Hi All,

My father was born with the surname Roach, and is the son of the late John Roach, son of Daniel Roach, who I understand hails from the Grand Chain area (Olmsted?). John Roach, my paternal grandfather, died from tuberculosis in the early 1950s. My father was re-named when my grandmother re-married, and the story ends there! John's mother (Daniel's wife) was Ruth Inman (nee Lewis, prev. Roach).
I was wondering if this is the same family?
Thanks,
Rachel

I am a descendant of Jonathan Roach and Mary W. Boone. They were my 3rd great grandparents. I know your post is a few years old (I just discovered it), but I would love to attend a Roach reunion. I have never met any of my Roach family, and I would love the opportunity. My line is: Jonathan Roach to Francis Marion Roach to Sarah Frances Roach to Johnnye Frances Robbins to Marion Elizabeth Ware to me, Karen. Can you please tell me when the next reunion is?

Thank you,

Karen Matheny Belknap

You may have the following info, but here goes:
Mary Anne Roache is on the 1911 Irish census for Ballytrasna
Co.Kerry, living with her grandparents John and Katie Greaney.
John and Katie's oldest child Ellen was born in the States in
1900, and the others, Lizzie, Nora and Katie were born in Ireland, so the grandparents took Mary Anne home with them
when they returned to Kerry sometime after 1900. Mary Anne is on the shipping records as going to 31 Hillcrest Ave, Manchester New Hampshire from Ireland in 1920. A Mary A.Roache is listed on the 1937 and 1938 voters list for New Hamshire. Hope this helps.

Powers/Roach in Orange Co, NY

I am looking for more information about Michael & Mary (Roach) Powers of Orange Co, NY. (They lived in Chester & Goshen - both in Orange Co, NY.) I am able to find information about Michael (1855-1923)& Mary (1859-1929)& their 10 children when living in NY.(My grandmother, Ella E. Powers, was one of their 10 children.) I do not know the names of either Michael's or Mary's parents, so I'm unable to trace their family trees further back. I believe Mary Roach Powers emigrated to the USA in 1872 & married Michael the following year. If anyone has any information that would help me, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!!

James Marcus Roach and Mary Elizabeth Thompson

Hi,

My great-great grandfather was James Marcus Roach. He was born 27 Nov 1881 in Randolph County, Arkansas. He married Mary Elizabeth Thompson on 16 Nov 1905. Mary was born 23 Feb 1890 in Warm Springs, Arkansas. Together James Marcus and Mary Elizabeth have three children (that I know of): Pearl May, Emil Leonard, and Celia O'Gean.

James Marcus died 26 Aug 1958 in Pocahontas, Randolph, Arkansas, United States. Mary Elizabeth died in September of 1975, but I don't know the exact date. I don't know anything else about Mary's family.

James Marcus was the son of Franklin Alexander Roach and Abbie Malinda Slate. Franklin was the son of William Franklin, who was the son of William, who was the son of Francis. I don't have anything passed Francis Roach.

Does anyone else share this line?

I believe John died and Catherine remarried John O'Connell and they had two children that I know of John and Cornelius. They are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cowley, KS.
Carol,
My Father's mother was Louisa Rudd. I have been in contact over the last few years with descendants of John Rogers Rudd and Ellen Roach. One who lives on the island of Cypress is from their first child, a daughter. Another is of Scottish descent and lives in York, Enland. She is descended from John Rudd. Ellen married William Roberts after the murder of John Rogers in 1864 and had about a dozen more kids. I have been in contact with a Roberts descendant in Norfolk, England.

You can take a look at my Family tree, "The Gillert Family." I have quite a bit of information.

My interest in the Roach family is also via my husband's family. His great-grandfather was Asberry (A.B, Augsberry) Roach. I know nothing about parent counties in Virginia since I am a native Iowan. Therefore, I am searching in the dark. Asberry was supposedly born in Campbell county (?) , VA in 1849 and died in Pittsylvania county, Virginia in 1934. His wife was Mary Ellen Holland who preceded him in death. I was wondering if Asberry could be a son of Reverand Eljah White Roach? Our information is very vague. Supposedly, Aberry left home after a significant feud with his father. Asberry's son, my husband's grandfather, James, also had a fight with his father and had little to do with his father after James' mother's death which he blamed his father for.

Update on the Roche / Roach DNA project

Hello Everyone,

The Roche / Roach DNA project group at Family Tree DNA has been in operation for many years and I thought an update would be beneficial given that we have made substantial progress. We have had considerable success in revealing the ancestral histories of the group members. We have identified one major ancestral lineage and numerous minor lineages.

The major ancestral lineage comprises over 30% of project members. The lineage dates from approximately 1200 AD and none of these branch members have a known ancestor based on traditional paper genealogy. In addition, the spelling of the surname varies for these related families (Roach, Roche, and Roache are found within this branch). This confirms that the spelling of the name is not important for your family tree research.

The details of these latest developments can be found on the following website:

http://rochelineages.wordpress.com/

The site has additional background information on the DNA project and the connections that have been revealed between many family groups. If you are interested in joining the group, specific information can be found on website.

Best regards,

Peter Roche
Administrator: Roache DNA Project
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Roache/

I remember you grandmother, I even have a few pictures. Asberry was married to Mary Holland. His tombstone lists his name as A. B. Roach, which would suggest Berry might have been a middle name (I don't know for sure). I have seen a misprint of his name and it appeared as Osberry.

George Washington Roche is written into our family Bible, along with many or all of the decedents mentioned as children of John Wilson Roche, who is my great grandfather. I am not at home now but will try to research when we get back to Minnesota.

Hi Chris,
Sorry, I misread..it was Gerry from Ontario that I should have addressed.
I am not into ancestry but now understand that my ggg grandmother Catherine Brennan and your ggg grandfather Patrick Brennan were brother & sister.
Mom, Ellen (Ella) Cremmen born 1913 youngest daughter of Mary Sullivan and John Cremmen did speak of her Uncles. They would be the children of John Sullivan (1817-1901) and Mary Roach and grandchildren of Catherine Brennan (1812-1870) and John Roach.
Jeremiah Sullivan.. bachelor, lived with us for awhile in Owen Sound and is buried in Dornoch.
Jack Sullivan?
Owen Sullivan.. stories were that he was an exceptionally good person.
Pat Sullivan.. made his way to the USA and family stories and laughs were that he walked all the way. He was a tailor and had his own tailor shop. He married and had four daughters and two sons all of whom are deceased.
He eventually settled in Hollister, Calif. His grandson is Loren McClure and may still be living.
My email address is: mgrace-briggs@sympatico.ca.
Cheers,
Cousin Mary

For John Wiley Jones, per his death certificate I have mother's maiden name is Bryant, father's name is W. R. Jones. His obituary states he died in 1922 and his mother survived him. Samuel Earl Jones is Cherokee and listed on the Dawes Roll, thought John Wiley Jones does not look Cherokee and neither do Nancy McDaniel's parents (and neither John Wiley nor Nancy are on the Dawes Roll)...I am still researching to see if there is any possible question of paternity?

Hi Gerry in Canada.
I too live in Ontario and Mary Sullivan and John Cremmen were my grandparents, both of whom were dead before my birth. They had three girls, Alice, Irene and Ellen. Ellen (Ella) was my mother and she died June 1st 2006. Mom never spoke much about her childhood but she did mention that her grandmother did live with them in her later years. Mary Sullivan was known for her care of the poor. She was a teacher and I have a book of hers from students who sang her praises. I have been up to the Dornoch cemetery several times in the past year as my dear bachelor brother, Patrick John Grace died suddenly last year and requested to be buried there. I guess Angela Roach would have been Mary Sullivan's sister. I can't see how Mary & John could be your ggparents although it would be wonderful to find another close family member. Please feel free to contact me at mgrace-briggs@sympatico.ca
Sincerely,
Mary Grace-Briggs
p.s. Mom's bachelor uncle, Jerry Sullivan, Mary Sullivan's brother lived with us for a few years. As kids we called him "Jeremiah the Prophet.' I found his tombstone in Dornoch, St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery, Glenelg Township, Grey County. (He never married).

Hi Mary,

It's wonderful to meet another cousin! If my records are correct, we're third cousins twice removed.

I may have been unclear, and for that I apologise. Mary Sullivan and John Cremmen were not my g grandparents; Mary was my second cousin three times removed. (John Cremmen's uncle, who was a different John Sullivan, married Catherine Brennan, one of the daughters of John Brennan and Mary Rice whom I mention below.)

According to my records Mary Sullivan (1872-1938), was the daughter of John Sullivan (1817-1901) and Mary Roach (1836-1921).

Mary Roach was the daughter of Catherine Brennan (1812-1870) and John Roach (birth and death dates unknown; Catherine was widowed on the 1851 census).

Catherine and John's marriage and the baptism of 8 children (including Mary Roach Sullivan on 21 Feb 1836), are recorded at St. Lazarian's RC Church in Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow, Ireland.

I believe that Catherine Brennan Roach, Mary Roach Sullivan's mother, was the sister of my ggg grandfather, Patrick Brennan. My ggg grandparents' marriage is recorded at the same church, as is the baptism of their oldest daughter, Margaret. I believe another sibling was John Brennan who married Mary Rice. Their marriage and the baptism of several children (including Catherine, the aunt-by-marriage of Dennis Cremmin) are also recorded at St. Lazarian. All three families farmed first in Beckwith, Lanark Co., Ontario, before moving to Grey County. Patrick and John both farmed 100 acre lots in Holland Twp; Catherine Brennan Roach had a 50 acre lot literally across the road in Glenelg.

Thank you for the information on Mary Sullivan and John Cremmen's children; I had only Alice and Irene listed and only their years of birth as 1908 and 1909.

I look forward to hearing from you, Mary. My direct email is chris (at) brennan-families.com, if you'd like to contact me directly.
