Robards, Robords, Roberts in Avoca, NY

Hello All,

I'm researching my gggrandmother, Phebe Robords, who married William Allen, 1810 in Amsterdam, NY. They moved to Avoca, NY in 1813.

There are many Robords in Avoca in the 1860 Federal census. Could these be Phebe's relatives? It's interesting that they were Robords in 1860, but were listed as Roberts in the 1850 census.

Anyone have any info on these people?

Thanks in advance

Ditto for this December. If anyone is interested, please email me at pezealogy@gmail.com

I had hoped we would get someone from the early New York line(s) by now. If anyone knows of someone, please let me know, too.

I'm hoping somebody out there can help as I have very little information to give. I'm trying to find the ancestors of Sara(h) Robards born about 1845 in Kentucky. She married my gggrandfather Phillip Henry Nanney and had three children (at least): George(?), Edward and Albert Pinkney. I don't have much information beyond that. I've located Sarah in the 1870 and 1880 Census and know her parents were from either Kentucky or Alabama. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

William was supposedly born around 1860 in Indiana. Laura was born around 1863 in Kentucky. With them are sons Oscar, age 22, and Harry, age 18. I am trying to find the parents of William.
Robards Reunion, weekend of Aug. 2, 2008, Harrodsburg, KY. Descendents of William Robards Sr. 1729-1783, Goochland County, VA.

His children and their spouses were: John (Sarah Marshall); William Jr. (Elizabeth Cocke and Elizabeth Lewis); James (Mary Massie); Jean/Jane (Samuel Mosby); Lewis (Hannah Winn); George (Elizabeth Sampson); Jessie (Frances Perkins); Sallie (Jack Jouett); Joseph (Nancy Harris); Elizabeth (William Buckner Jr.); Robert (never married). Anyone who is a descendent of any of these family lines is invited to attend.
William's second wife, Elizabeth (Lewis) Robards, moved with her family from Goochland County, Va, to Mercer County, KY, in 1784, as provided in William Sr.'s will. The reunion will be held at 'Glenworth', which has long been associated with the Robards family. (See attached write-up. Although the info about Glenworth is not quite accurate, you will have to contact me to get the real info!)
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! I need to start getting an idea about how many people would be interested in attending. If you are one of those people, please contact me at frichtlj@charter.net. I would love to hear from ALL the descendents! And, would love to meet you in Harrodsburg, KY, in August!

Re: ROBARDS, MANSER Northiam, Sussex 1821

My mother was a Manser and I have recently been researching the Sussex Mansers. i wonder whether the James christened in 1799 was the son of William born 1767 to William 1740-1826 and Elisabeth Dennis 1744. The james 1800 could have been born to Thomas 1783 brother of William, or Thomas 1783 cousin or thomas 1802 cousin? They were very prolific with each family having between 8 and 12 children and them having 8-12..... They repeated the same names over and over. I am descended from one of the brothers and have not filled in all the marriages. I think James would come in to this branch as a name around this time as the sister had married a James Brook. They were very fond of including names of inlaws both christian and surnames. I have established a large branch of the tree in my family treemaker and can export in adobe. If you would like it to see if you can add your family in please email me. HSantilly@aol.com

Helen

Forgot to include the info. on the McNeils:
By 1880, both the father, Robt. McNeil and his wife, Mary were dead having died 13 June 1874 and 31 Jan 1875 respectively. The mother left an infant girl born three weeks before her death. They lost there infant son Bert M. McNeil b.19 August 1870 and died 19 July 1872. There oldest daughter Mary died of Consumption 16 November 1873. So as you can see the family suffered much loss in three years.
That is why in the 1880 census the younger boys Willie and Frank are living with their older brother. I have not found where the infant girl who was born in Jan 1875 was living yet in 1880.
Hope this answers some questions for you.
Alicia

O.K if your in a state of shock already then my telling you that I have quite a bit more info on the McNeil family and tons on the Robards family won't hit you so hard. (Went back thru my records and discovered seven more siblings of Elizabeth Ellen McNeil and also info on her parents) And to answer your question, I fit into the Robards family. My grandmother was a Robards from Minnesota. Your great grandfather Charles Thompson Robards and my great grandfather Walter James Robards were brothers. The family came from Michigan before making thier way to Minnesota.
Would love to know how you fit into the big picture of the Robard families. I don't have a line with Stevens yet.
Hope to hear from you again soon.

Elizabeth Ellen McNeil, born 11 July 1859 in Ontario, Canada, had one brother Robert J. McNeil that I know of so far, living in Alexandria, Minnesota. Elizabeth married Charles Thompson Robards, son of George Thompson Robards and Miriam L. Savage on 5 May 1880 at the home of her brother Roberty J. McNeil in Alexandria, Douglas County, Minnesota. Elizabeth Ellen Mcneil Robards died on 21 November 1931 in Castle Rock, Cowlitz County, Washington and is buried in Whittle Cemetery, Cowlitz County, Washington.
They had the following children: George Clifford Robards, Robert Earl Robards, Ethel M. Robards, Elizabeth L. Robards and Lucille R. Robards.
Hope this helps out. Alicia Poreda

My records are not quite in line with yours - here are some of the differences -

Elizabeth Pleasants Cocke was the daughter of James Cocke & Mary Lewis. She is named as "Elizabeth Pleasants Cocke" in her father's will (dated 25 Apr 1772) in Henrico Co., Va. James Cocke & Elizabeth Pleasants are a couple generations back on the Cocke line - Another Elizabeth Pleasants was the mother of Mary Lewis.

Thomas Terry Davis - was a representative but was NOT the FIRST congressman from Ky.

Mary Lewis"Polly" Robards m 27 Dec 1797, Mercer Co to Robert Harrison Davis (younger brother of Thomas Terry Davis - sons of Cyrus). She died 08 Sep 1829 in Mercer Co., Ky.

Elizabeth Lewis - 2nd wife of William Robards, Jr. I agree that she was just plain Elizabeth Lewis.

Her father, William Lewis died in Mercer Co Nov 1824 (his obit: William Lewis, formerly of Jessamine Co. Died at the residence of Mr. Rochester, in Nov. 1824 aged 93 years. - Reporter issue of 29 Nov 1824) His will probated in Mercer Co - names his daughter Elizabeth Robards & other children. Will of one of her brothers, who died in the cholera epidemic - his will names Otho Robards.

Susanna Robards was born cir 1789 & died after 1850.

Ortho Robards (I don't have a middle name) died 09 Feb 1857 In Jessamine Co. His body was moved in Apr 1866 to the Lexington Cemetery. His widow Cassa died 18 Mar 1891 & was buried the next day.

Catherine Gabriella Robards was born 15 Oct 1836 in Jessamine Co & married in Jessamine Co, 06 Jan 1864, George McDowell Caldwell. Her mother Cassa consented for her daughter to marry and her brother; Younger Pitts Robards was the bondsman.

How do these differences fit with your records?

Anne

Re: Robert H. DAVIS m. 1797, Mercer Co KY, Mary ROBARDS

I have also wondered about the middle name - probably your choice of Robert H. Davis is best. Have you ever found hard data that the wife of Cyrus Davis was indeed Sarah Harris?

Cyrus Davis lived in Louisa Co.,, Va. until 1796
(Louisa Co Va - Book: I, Page: 175, , Date: 29-Oct-1796
Cyrus Davis being about to remove to state of Kentucky appoints Wm. Cooke his lawful attorney to collect and dispose of money due to him or that he owes. 29 Oct 1796. ) He was in Louisa Co in the 1770's on -

I have studied the Louisa records only a little - but it is interesting that Robert Mosby was one of his neighbors for many years. (see Louisa Co deeds)

Robert & Ann Mosby moved to Kentucky from Louisa Co Va - between Sep 1781 & Feb 1782. The Mosby land fell in Mercer Co., Ky. when it was cut from Lincoln Co. He was one of the big land owners.

Another neightbor back in Louisa Co., was one Harrison Harris - I have no idea who he was but his name was interesting.

Of course, the Robards land was in Goochland but close to the Louisa border.

Cyrus Davis and his son Robert H. Davis - their land in Mercer did not fall in Boyle Co, when it was cut. It was close to the border, though.

A number of relatives did move to Boyle.

Robert Mosby was the guardian to the three youngest children of Robert H. Davis - until Elizabeth married and then she and her husband became the guardians to sister, Mary Jane Robards Davis. Their land was in both Boyle and Mercer - the house was on the Boyle side. So it is easy to see how the legend of Boyle Co came about. (Or atl least that is my theory <G>)

Anne

The wife of William Lewis was Hannah Underwood. - Elizabeth was the oldest daughter, born before the Rev. Douglas began his famous register. There are a number of children of this couple in the Register & they had a few more after the last was registered.

Alas - many, many years ago in one of the Lewis and Kin books this William Lewis was placed in a King & Queen family of Lewis - Iverson & they are credited with children they did not have. He does not belong in that King &Queen family at all. Dis-miss most everything you find on internet trees .

Goochland Co Va - Deed Bk 14, p 315 - 12 Sep 1786, recorded 18 Sep 1786
William Lewis and Hannah his wife, of the County of Fayette (Kentucky) to William Sampson - 175 acres being 1/2 the tract "I sold to John Robards bounded by Jacob Layne.
Wit by Tarlton Payne, Joseph Payne, Stephen Southall. the last two wit were for William Lewis in Fayette Co., Ky.

Jessamine Co was cut from Fayette Co in 1799.

Nancy Robards m William Caldwell - 06 Feb 1804, Jessamine
Her father William Robards consented & Her Uncle Nicholas Lewis was the bondsman -

Again - I do not think Otho Robards had the middle name of Singleton.

Anne

I don't believe that Eizabeth Lewis, 2nd wife of William Robards, Sr., had a middle name of Woodson.

Do you have a true source for that?

She was the aunt of both Elizabeth Pleasants Cocke (daughter of her older sister Mary) and Elizabeth Lewis (daughter of her brother William)

Rebecca Robards Singleton died 22 Jan 1828, Keene, Jessamine County Kentucky. leaving husband and 6 children. Lewis Singleton married her sister, Catherine T "Kitty" Robards as her 3rd husband.

Robert H. Davis (some say Harris others Harrison) d 16 Sep 1818 in Mercer Co - his wife / widow waas Mary Lewis Robards, they had married 27 Dec 1797, her father, William Robards consented. Teste: Stephen Letcher & Thomas Letcher. (Stephen Giles Letcher married Robert's sister Sarah Davis)

Mary Lewis Robards Davis died in Mercer Co. 8 Sep 1829. They left 5 children: Cyrus Addison Davis, Robert Augustine Davis, Elizabeth Robards Davis, William Davis & Mary Jane Robards Davis.

Robert Mosby was the guardian for the last three, his wife was Anne Lewis, another sister of Elizabeth Lewis Robards. Also, Robert Mosby had been a neighbor of Cyrus Davis earlier in Louisa County, Virginia

Do you know the names of the children of Thomas Terry Davis?

The will of his father, Cyrus does not give their names, he writes only: "To the heirs of my son Thomas T. Davis I give my bed and bed furniture I should have given them more but I have already done a sufficient part by my said son Thomas T. Davis."

Nancy ROBARDS Burris b c 1803 Tennessee

Seeking more information about the second wife of Isaiah BURRIS--Nancy ROBARDS b. abt 1803 Tennessee m to Isaiah 27 February 1848 in Cass County, Missouri. Isaiah was about 72 years old and Nancy about 45 at the time of this marriage. They are found on the 1850 Census, Jackson Township, Johnson County,Missouri. There is a child in the household Jane R. listed as surname BURRIS. However, she is 9 years old.
Isaiah states in a deed in Ripley Co., Missouri 26 March 1846 that he "is moving."

I am assuming that Nancy ROBARDS is a widow with a 7 year old child named Jane at the time she marries Isaiah.
What is her maiden name?
Is Jane R. BURRIS really Jane ROBARDS?
What happened to Nancy and Jane?--I cannot find them on the 1860.

My major interest is in Isaiah. Hoping to find some clue as to his death date and burial by finding out more about Nancy.

Thanks

Alicia-

Oh how nice to find that you are "still there" and quick to reply! I have always been very interested in family history, a legacy of curiosity and pride from my mom who passed stories to us, but with few facts to back them.

My dad did quite a bit of research on HIS family (and I'm now picking up the thread of his work from 25 years ago---have found a shirttail cousin close by and am exchanging info with her about the Tabers. It's exciting to find relatives, however distant, and make a connection!)

Anyway, I guess you feel the thrill too, or you wouldn't have been working so diligently for 9 years or more on your research. My mom is 90, the last surviving of seven siblings born to George Clifford (called "Cliff" all his life) and Elma Luthy Robards. She was in the middle of the pack; all younger and older are deceased. I am taking hardcopies of all of your exchanges (from 2006) with Eliz. Cook, plus today's msg, to Mom in just an hour or so. Believe me, it will "make her day" to hear more about her Grandmother Elizabeth E. McNeil Robards!!! She (Mom) had a stroke two years ago and is doing ok but pretty much confined to a little assisted apt., so anything so interesting as finally knowing more about her grandma will be a bright spot in her life. Thank you for your hard work!

By the way, did you know that Eliz. McNeil Robards was a teacher, a graduate of McGill University in Canada. The family was very proud of the fact that she had a college education ....quite a good thing in the late 19th c. She was very "cultured", apparently, that is well read, well spoken, "proper", and a lover of books.

The brother of Eliz. McN. R. who built the famous Quinault Lodge in WA( to which Eliz. Cook refers,) was a bit well known. As was his son Steve, the writer of short stories often published in the Sat. Eve. Post. I have a nice little history of the lodge in booklet form which tells more about them. This should interest Eliz. Cook if we can once again contact her.... Did you ever have a snail mail address, e-mail address or tel no. for her?? I really want to share some photos I have with her....of her grandpa/grndma, her dad, her uncles!

And YES, I very much want to stay in touch with you and exchange info....to the extent I have anything of interest. Your offer of old photos is exciting in the extreme. We have very few from other than immediate Aunts/Uncles. Whose photos do you have?? I would be happy to pay for you to have them copied if they are of the ggparents we share or other collateral relatives of interest.

Enough for now. I will be so glad to hear from you at your convenience!

Jeannie

P.S. I am in Oregon. Grew up in WA, MT. Moved Mom here from MT where she had been since 1955. My dad was a mine manager/owner there.

Did you get a reply from Alicia Poreda to this question you posted in 3/06? Because there are several Robards relatives in my branch of the family, as you may have seen from other postings. My mother, child of Geo. Clifford Robards, who was the son of Charles T. Robards etc. (see earlier msg from A. Poreda), had three brothers, now all deceased. Her brother Robert has one son, Jay Robards, and he in turn has at least one son. Mom's brother Fred has a son Stuart Robards, and he in turn has two sons. Mom's brother Clifford Robards had three sons, one now deceased. The others are Cliff Jr. and John Robards. John has a son, I believe, perhaps two. I would be very interested in this Robards dna study as would my mother who is 90. I am not in close contact with any of these Robards male cousins, but could reach them and might interest them in joining this study! RSVP. Jeannie Green

Wow! I've just wandered into this chat room after a cousin and I decided we need to pursue our genealogy a bit more than he already has.....are you still out there, Elizabeth Cook and Alicia Poreda?! I am your relative and would love to get into this exchange!

Elizabeth, it's a wonder we've not met, as I DID once meet your dad! My mother Helen Robards Taber is the only one still living of seven children of George Clifford Robards and Elma Luthy Robards. They were married in 1907, I believe, in a double wedding with YOUR grandparents, George Fields and Ethel Robards Fields.....Ethel and Clilff were brother and sister. (I have their wedding day photo; my sister has a couple of great photos of your grandpa.) And your dad with his brothers were the fun first cousins my mother remembers quite well. She loved her Aunt Ethel, your grandmother. Do you know (surely you must!) the "family secret" re the Fields/Robards cousins? When they were forty something, your Uncle Greg Fields married my Aunt Rose Robards. He was a widower and she long divorced; they had a wonderful long marriage, thirty years, ending in his death in 1988. I was very close to them; he had a daughter from his first marriage who died young, and one grandson. Rose had no children from either marriage, and that made nieces and nephew their closest kin.

My aunt Evelyn Robards Tilton was the Robards cousin closest in age to Wayne Fields, your dad. Her eldest son Bob is the cousin I've been e-mailing about our shared Robards heritage/tree. He tried to write to you, Eliz., after we found your msg on one of these chat threads. I haven't heard whether you two are now in communication with one another.

I AM THRILLED to have more info on Eliz. McNeil. My mother was very young when Chas. T. and Eliz. passed away, but she does remember them somewhat. They lived with her family near the end of their lives. Eliz. died of complications of diabetes. Do you know the stories about our grtgrandpa Charles T. R.? About the fact that he rode with Gen. George Custer for a time, in Dakota country, as a "re-scout" and went by the name "Buckskin Charllie". He must have been quite young. Obviously (:}) he was no longer with Custer by the time of the great battle/massacre!! Mom has a couple of (insignificant) pieces of agate that her grandpa found somewhere near Yellowstone while with Custer. He used to take her on his knee and tell of eating ants and squirrels when they were on the trail. Quite a story teller and charismatic, she says.

This is SOOOOO long. Sorry! I hope to hear from both of you and jump into more conversation about our shared ancestry! By the way, George Messerschmidt is one son of Dorothy Louise Robards Messerschmidt, who was my first cousin (now decd). She was the eldest child of Clifford Robards who was in turn the eldest son of Geo. Clifford and Elma. Perhaps you've been in touch with him by now....

There are several of us in the G.C. Robards descendency who are interested in/working on genealogy. Bob Tilton and Geo. Messerschmidt. Also Alexa ((married name evades me just now), who is the
elder daughter of Bern Newby (decd) who was my first cousin. He was the son of Dorothy Robards Newby, another sister of my mother.

Whew. Again, sorry for detail and length here.

Would love to hear from you, both of you.

Jeannie Taber Green

Jeannie, welcome to our family. It seems there are more Robards still out there waiting to be found. I had always figured that was the case but now I know for sure.
You already know now how I fit in to the big picture and I would LOVE to exchange information with you if you would like.

I had been in contact with Elizabeth Cook for a short while, she had said her life was very busy and I of course understood completely. She said she would get back to me shortly and that was now nearly a year ago. Life can get away from you sometimes, it happens to us all.
I would love to have shared with her more info. and gotten some on her side also, hopefully someday she will be back in touch.

I have spoken with George Messerschmidt on the phone several times and by email even more. He seems to have quite a bit on many relatives.
I do not have as much as he does. I usually add new people and then go back and check and collect source information for all that I enter. I was not doing that originally when I first started and found that was not a good idea. I then started to go back and collect sources for the people I already had and new ones being added. But as you can guess that gets very costly when you need to pay for death, marriage, birth, land, etc. records. So, I do a few at a time and then wait a bit to do more. I decided if I was sharing the information with others, I wanted to make sure it was correct and legitimate information not here say.

Anyway, as I said, I am glad you have made contact and I would love to exchange what I have if you would like. I would also be willing to exchange copies of pictures if I have any you would be interested in, not alot available but some are very old, 1850, 1880's, 1890's, etc.

Sorry for the long post. Would love to hear from you again.
Alicia Poreda

Jeannie,

I too come from a family of lore, curiosity and pride. I was very fortunate as I was growing up to have spent hundreds of hours listening to the "old folks" tell tales and stories of the "old days". I believe that is when the seed was planted for the family tree quest.
I am very fortunate now to have my mother alive and well continuing to tell me the tales of yesterdays gone by.

I am so very happy your mother is able to see the information you will be sharing with her. I don't have too much more then what I had written to Elizabeth Cook about but I would love to forward it to you as soon as possible so you may share it with her also.
Our family line comes down from Walter James Robards(my gr.grandfather on my mother's side) who was the brother of Charles Thompson Robards, both children of George Thomp. Robards and Miriam Savage Robards. I have lots of information starting with George Robards and Temperance Monroe Robards, parents of George Thomp. Robards.
As you already know the line from Miriam Savage Robards goes back to Priscilla Mullens and John Adams, pilgrams on the Mayflower. I have not sourced that yet, but many before me have, that is my journey for another time.

I did not have any contact for Elizabeth Cook but an email, I will have to see if I still have it on file. I will let you know.

In regards to photo's I do have a picture of Miriam Savage Robards(mother of Charles Thompson Robards)circa 1870-1880's, George Robards(father of George Thomp. Robards)circa 1850's,I need to see what else is available. I think that may be it on our shared relatives, but I will check them to make sure there are no more. No need to pay me, you can just return the good gesture if you are able.

It seems alot of the Robards went far west such as Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska, etc. Our Robards line stayed in the Minnesota area for most of their lives. There are still a few male Robards from our line living there now.

I am in Colorado, we have been here about 11 years now. I grew up in Illinois. I moved my mother here two years ago after my father passed away.

Here is my email address:jace_p@msn.com - you can contact me there from now on if you would like.
I look forward to hearing from you again soon.
ROBARDS ALLEN'S PARENTS

I descend from Robards Allen who with wife, Louisa, had son William, 1800, in Mason Co. KY. Robards b. abt 1755, location unknown. Seeking identity of Robard's parents, especially his mother who I believe may have maiden name, Robards. The notes below pertain to him.
"Robards, Robard, Roberts and Robert Allen are each used for this man's name. 1. Robards used in Scioto County Marriages, Marriage Records of Scioto County, Ohio, 1803-1860; Shoemaker and Reidity. Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1987. Allen, William & Sarah Worley. He res. Mason Co., KY. His father, Robards Allen cons., witn. Benjamin Allen, Thomas Allen, & John Allen. 7Dec.1818. 2. In "Vital Records Index -- North America" Marriage Index. Allen, Benjamin, wife Rebecca Pagitt; 18Oct.1819, Mason Co., KY. Husband's father, Robard Allen; mother, Louisa Allen. 3. Indenture, Mason Co., KY., between Roberts Allen and Elijah Reeves for exchange of part of property on which Elijah Reeves then lived. Roberts Allen used multiple times in this document. 4. In many other documents, Robert Allen is used as his name. It seems likely to the author that he was named Robards Allen, but often used Robert in that Robards is an uncommon first name, to be sure."

Marriage of Charles T Robards, ca 1879

I am looking for information on Elizabeth E (last name unknown) who married Charles T Robards, c 1879. In June 1880, they were living in Alexandria MN. He was born in Michigan, of parents George T and Miriam (who were both born in NY). Elizabeth E was born in Canada, of parents both born in Scotland. She emigrated to the US in ca 1867, when she was about 7. By 1900, they were living in Latah ID, and had 5 children. In 1910 they were in Marion County, OR; and, in 1920, in Cosmopolis WA. Charles T Robards is my paternal ggrandfather. Thanks. Elizabeth Cook

Wow! I'm sitting here in a state of shock. Thank you. You've also solved another mystery: trying to figure out how the McNeil's fit (since the otherwise fulsome) genealogy prepared by a great aunt (Laura Louella Fields Stevens) in 1951 doesn't mention them. The only given names I know are Stella and her son Steve (who wrote for the SatEve Post), and who built Quinault Lodge WA. My father, Wayne Fields, was Steve's cousin. ?Perhaps Robt was Stella's husb?
Likely, I'm retracing ground trod by others, but am (much too belatedly) just getting going on family history. BTW, are you part of the clan, or really just a helpful person??? And, are you in MN or WA? (sorry, may be too nosy...) Elizabeth Cook

Charles Robards' daughter Ethel married George Fields in Latah ID, and the 1st of their 4 sons is my father, Wayne Colyer Fields. So, that's how I fit in. Laura Stevens (the Fields family historian) is George Fields' sister.

I tracked Walter only as far as the 1880 Census, when he was living in Dakota Terr, as (?) a boarder. But, I've tracked George T back to Steuben Co, NY, one of 58 Robards in 8 families. Nothing before then.

But, as soon as I read your reply, I went to the 1870 Census and easily found Robt McNeil (born in Scotland), wife Mary, and children Mary, Robert, Elizabeth, Walter, and William. Curiously, in 1880, the only one I've found (thus far) is son Robt, wife Alice E, son Walter, and (?) Robt's brothers Willie & Frank. No trace of the father & mother (who would have been 49 & 43). ?Any ideas of where they might have been in 1880?

It seems you've been at this a lot longer than I, and must have some family records available to you. None of my people are still alive, access to remaining family memorabilia has been blocked since my father's death, so I'm operating on memory. We traveled around the country a lot whenI was growing up, with few possessions; so, a lot of our family history came by oral tradition, for which I'm eternally grateful.

I'd love to share what I have with you, but not sure how. We use a Mac, and the gen program "Reunion". Likely, there's some way I can export data to whatever system you use.

Sorry for the length of the msg. BTW, I've lived in Fairbanks AK since 1959, but get out a couple of times a year.
Elizabeth

I believe you will find that Lewis' son, James Winn Robards, was born in 1797 and married Rachel Shain in 1821. The James W. Robards who married Nancy Moss in 1812 was born in 1789 and is believed to be the son of John and Sarah (Marshall) Robards. I doubt if his middle name was Winn (my guess would be William, named for his father's two brothers). Lewis' son would have only been 15 when Nancy Moss and James W. Robards married in 1812. So, you and Bill are closer related than you thought.

Janice, I love pictures too. Would you send me yours?

Alicia:
Do you have any male relatives who still have the last name of Robards? If so, talk them into joining the Robards dna study at familytreedna.com. We are just getting it started. I am a descendent of Capt. Lewis Robards brother, Capt. George Robards. If any of your relatives match, you will know there is a definite connection somewhere along the line.
