Hi Andrew

Sorry it has taken over a year to reply. I have not been researching for a while and I just saw the message. Since putting the original message on I have changed my email address and didn't realise there were any messages. I haven't seen your tree on this site however I contributed a lot to the tree at: Descendants of William Robbie of Birse, Aberdeen, Scotland on this site.

I would love to compare trees

Tanya

The Alexander Ogilvy/Jane Robbie line are my relatives! Alexander was my great grandfather. He emmigrated to Canada and lived in New Brunswick. He and his sons are actually famed outdoorsmen and guides. My mother was Helen Isobel Ogilvy, granddaughter of Alexander.

How do I access your database?

I would love to go back further at least one generation or hopefully more.

James Robbie, bio

JAMES ROBBIE
Walsh Heritage, ND 1881-1981
Vol 1 - p.444-445

James Robbie, born July 12, 1840 in Kirkbuddo, Scotland, died May 1, 1904 at Park River, ND. Elizabeth REA was born nov 28, 1843 in Forfarshire, Scotland and died in 1919. James and Elizabeth were married July 26, 1867.

Robbie had a mill in Scotland but the "lure" of the land prompted him to journey to the new land. His eldest daughter, Ann, was interested in a young Scot, Louis McPHERSON, who had gone to America and the Robbie family followed soon. They made the voyage in 1887.

The Robbie family spent their first winter in Herman, MN and arrived in the Park River area in 1888. They received their Homestead Claim June 7 for the SE 1/4 Section 3, Vernon Twp. Later the family moved to Park River. Sons Andrew and John retained the farming interest for a few years.

The grandmother, Jane (Jennie) joined the Brown and Bond Millinery and Dressmaking Shop, sewed there for several years.

Jane (Jennie) ROBBIE married John PEOPLES on Dec 31, 1902 and moved to Voss for about 3 years. In 1905 they moved to Fertile Twp near Park River and joined the Scotch Settlement there.

James and Elizabeth Robbie ( parents of Jane) had six children:
Andrew Robbie, born Sep 6, 1868, died in 1959. He married Ada HARRIS in 1895.

Ann Lunan Robbie was born Nov 25, 1869 and died in 1948.
She married Louis McPHERSON in 1888.

Jane Fairly Robbie (Jennie) was born Sep 16, 1871 and died in 1961. She married John PEOPLES in 1902.

Elizabeth Ann Robbie was born Aug 10, 1873 and died Aug 20, 1877. She was born and died in Scotland.

John McDougal Robbie was born Mar 6, 1879 and died in 1960.

James S. Robbie was born Jul 5, 1887 and died in 1968. James was the only child born in America.

Andrew Robbie and one of his grandsons returned to visit the old Mill Homestead in Scotland. The buildings are still intact.

Descendants of the James and Elizabeth family still live in the area:
W. J. Peoples, Paul Peoples, Doris Jean Bodmer, Norman McPherson, Shirley McPherson Lindell, Delores McPherson Tallackson, Jack McPherson and Carol McPherson.

Hello there,
I am researching this line - my mother-in-law's name was Robbie. My husband has no idea about his relations as he was born in Oz and he had no contact with any of his relations - we are living in the Uk now and are trying to track down his relations - so she possibly is a relation. But we are putting all feelers out for Robbies from Forfar; Grays from Wigan and Hardings from Leytonstone! That's all we know! His father died in the 60's and his mother died this year. She had little information available about anyone!
Cheers Anthea

To Brenda or anyone with any interest in these families -
My husbands mother was a Robbie from Forfar. Her father was John White Robbie, owned a pub in later years in Edinburgh, his father had the pub in Forfar - we think it was the Queens.
John married Gertrude Gray from WIgan, in 1912, they lived in England for a while then went back to Scotland - first Forfar then edinburgh. My husbands mother, Linda Robbie, b 1917 lived in Forfar for some years - sister was Jessie b. 1913. They both emigrated to Australia in the 50's. There are a few family members still around Forfar. We are just starting the family tree from Robbie, side having gone quite a way with my side - Ron's is more difficult - Scotland is hard to chase! Hope to hear from you
thanks Anthea Harding
Anyway be glad to share what we have and may be able to fill in a few gaps.
I am a direct descendant of Francis Robbie born Birse 1753 and have done a lot of work on him. I have always assumed that he was the son on William Robbie and Janet Simpson married at Glenmuick in 1751 and there is some evidence to support this although it is not proved beyond doubt. Will be glad to share information with you about my 4-g grandfather and other Robbies.

I am descended from Francis Robbie born Birse 1753 but have always assumed he was the son on William Robbie and Janet Simpson married at Glenmuick in 1751 (IGI), although this has never been proved absolutely. Is it possible that Francis was the son of William Robbie and Elizabeth Smith? Will be grateful for details you have on your Francis so I can check whether he is my 4-g grandfather.
In answer to your question (and sorry it took so long). Francis that was the child of William ROBBIE and Elizabeth SMITH died in 1775 so unfortunately is not your one.

I have quite a bit more information on the family now as William ROBBIE and Elizabeth SMITH are my 5th great grandparents.

Still searching to find out who my 6th great grandparents are so any help from anyone would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards
Tanya Morrison

James was a painter and had his own business I think. They made several trips back to Scotland from N.Z. as my mother knew her Aunt and often talked of her.My mother was born in 1918 & died 1993.I know she got a ring from Marion for her 21st I think.

Marion's brother James went out to Detroit in Feb 1910 (Ellis Island Records) to the address of his oldest brother,Charles,at 322 Howard Street. Detroit.

Marion and her husband were at her parents' house in Glasgow in the 1901 census.

Marion's aunt, also named Marion Robbie, never married and died in Melbourne in 1913 aged 50.

Regards Ann

I am replying to a message sent by you in November 2000! The James Martin who married Marion Robbie in 1898 is my great uncle. I had traced him to Detroit Michigan in 1910 but lost them after that.

You say they went to New Zealand. This ties up with the information remembered separately by my father and one of his cousins that they "went to Australia". In the past few days I also discovered that his younger sister ended up in Melbourne. James' other siblings others went to USA and Canada.

Anything you can tell me about James and Marion would be extremely welcome.

Ruth

HELLO Ken, sorry I've not passed this way in a while. I'm attempting to complete one branch of my Docherty family tree - and that is to trace my mother's cousin. Dorothy Ann Brown was born to Annie Docherty and Archie Brown of Clydebank in December 1949. Her mother, then 42, died shortly after the birth and Dorothy was adopted by the family of a Gordon Robbie in Kirriemuir. We have no idea what happen to Dorothy although we'd hear the odd story every now and then - the most recent was that she'd trained to be a nurse and had worked in Cambridge. Like I said, it's a Docherty inquiry more than a Robbie inquiry and if you feel a little misled please accept my apologies.

My great grandfather immigrated to Minnesota in 1870. He married Jemima Gall who immigrated in 1878.
They settled in Compton, Ottertail County, MN and farmed near Wadena most of their lives. It appears that a brother James and his wife Margaret came over from Scotland at the same time. There are also records for another James Robb who settled in Compton at the same time. Since both James and Thomas were in their teens, it is likely that the other James was a father or an uncle. Upon arriving in America, they changed their name to Robb. Family legend says that the family owned a castle in Scotland and that Thomas was disinheirited because he married a commoner. I would like to find a link to the past to determine who their parents and siblings were. Also, I would like to hear from any of their descendents.

David -

I am a decendant of Anne Robbie, b. Dec. 1834 in Aberdeen,
who married Charles Alexander Low, in 1855 in
Arborath, Angus. I do believe that Anne was
the daugher of Alexander Robbie and Ann Scorgie.

Any of these names ring a bell? I wounder if Alexander
and Charles might have been related somehow.

Also Charles A. Low 1860
Jane Campbell Low 1858
William Anderson Low d. 1863
James Drummond Low 1862
Alexander Robbie Low 1867
Cecilia Robbie Low 1869
all born in Arbroath, Angus, Scotland.

The middle name of Robbie was carried down a few
more generations, as even my grandmother, born in 1891
had it as one of her middle names, along with her
brother Charles

Regards,

Re: Robbie Family - Birse Aberdeenshire Scotland

Hello Tanya,

I also am doing research into the Robbie family. I do have a branch that begins with a Francis Robbie (1753 - 1838) who resided within Birse, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. I believe this may be the child of William Robbie and Elizabeth Smith. William is a very prominent name in our family so it is quite confusing as to which William is who. Regarding the second part of your message. You mentioned that William Robbie married a second time. Just to confirm, is this the same William Robbie who married Elizabeth Smith?

If you find that this all ties together, I have the branch from Francis' line all the way down to me if you would like it, I can scan it for you and send it if you provide me with an email address to do so.

Hope this helps, also if you have anything about William Robbie/Elizabeth Smith's parents or beyond it would help out immeasurably

Good Luck!
