John Barrett Robb corrected my posting earlier today:
----------------
(see ROBB surname board for full details, but I copy the basic message to this ROBE board: )
Wm Robb d. 1746 Chester Co PA
Replies: 1
Re: Wm Robb d. 1746 Chester Co PA New
john_b_robb (View posts) Posted: 7 Oct 2009 2:44AM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames:
Actually, Warren, though I do think that William Robe of Monongalia County, VA, was the son of the William Robe who died in LondonGrove Township, Chester County, PA, about 1745, I am still in the process of working up my arguments for this, and I will be running them by Margaret for her commentary in a few days. Also, I am in the process of creating an additional page to supplement my existing ROBB webpage, and BTW the correct link for the existing ROBB surname page is:

http://www.johnbrobb.com/JBR-ROBB-sur.htm

The additional ROBB page will cover all of the colonial Pennsylvania ROBB families with brief sketches of the evidence and reasoning behind my conclusions, which will of course be provisional - no proposition in history is ever finally proved. I am far from being ready to publish all my evidence, with citations, and formal arguments, because the research on these early ROBBs, while in a fairly advanced stage, is ongoing.

The new DNA evidence shows that there is a close link between the first and the second colonial Pennsylvania ROBB families: the one headed by the man I call William of Chester County, and the one headed by John of Cumberland Co (named for the places they died). It does not tell us, though, whether they had the same father, the same grandfather, or when exactly, their common ancestor lived, but it is highly likely IMO that they did have a common father, for reasons which I will make clear when I post my new ROBB page.

I should say that I've been researching these colonial PA ROBBs for about 20 years, working my way exhaustively through all the primary records of the PA counties where Scotch-Irish ROBBs are to be found. The actual evidence is so scant that credible conclusions can only be reached by such exhaustive research, especially given the penchant of the Scotch-Irish to use the same small set of given names for all their children. For these reasons, one can't be even reasonably sure about the career of any one person without accounting for all, and that is what I am endeavouring to do in my research project.

John Barrett ROBB
In case anyone is ever interested, I sent for Alonzo's death certificate. It shows he was born in Canastota, New York about 1817. The space for the name of his father is left blank but for the name of his mother there is written "Mindwell Russell", wasn't she the wife of Roswell Robe? The Barbour Collection for Simsbury, CT shows "Mindewell C. Russell" was the daughter of Jesse & Sarah and was born May 3, 1781.

Hello.
Any chance someone on this board is familiar with the origins of Alonzo M. ROBE. He can be found in the 1860 & 1870 Census of Waterbury, Connecticut . The census show him born about 1820 in Connecticut and married to Harriet with a daughter Emma.

I'm wondering if he was a brother of my g^3-grandfather Lester Robe who was born about 1811 in Connecticut and who died in Brooklyn, New York in 1847. I still don't know what town in CT he was born
in.
Amherst Robe fr CT to OH to IN

I am looking for the long lost relatives of My GG Grandfather William A Robe (1845-1933) of Galien MI. Civil War Documents and Census indicate that he was born in DeKalb Indiana 1845. I believe William was the child of Amherst Robe and his second wife Emmitta (or Ameila) Hayford-Robe(I would love to find a document that proves this 100%). Amherst is listed as coming from CT. He or his father may have fought in the war of 1812, as I have located a 1812 muster roll for CT that lists Amherst Robe. Census and other documents I have located on the web place him in Portage Co Ohio roughly between 1820 until 1837. In 1837 he is supposed to have entered 80 acres of land into the Wilmintion township of Dekalb Co IN. Web Searchs have indicated that he died in 1846. Amherst is supposed to have 4 childern (2M/2F) from his 1st wife Abigail (Liswell) Robe for Penn. I beleive these were Amherst, Bennett S., Elizabeth H., and Abigail. His second wife Emmitta or Amelia Hayford may have had 2 children I believe to be Helen and William A. The brothers Amherst, Bennett S., and William A are all supposed to have fought in the Civil War. I have found the muster rolls for Bennett S who died at Chattooga TN and William A. I can not find any reference any where for Amherst(Harlow?)Robe. My family beleives he may have relocated to Idaho, possibly as a potato farmer. My grand mother is supposed to have actually visited cousins in Idaho, although I can find no current Reference to Robes in Idaho. Please contact me if you have any information. Thank You!

He is buried at the Oakridge Cem, Berrien, MI. I believe Daniel Spinning Robe was another son of my GG Grandfather William A Robe and his wife Mary Matilda Spinning. Unfortualy, one website list my GG Grandfather as Ambrose instead of William Abham. Hoping you will have more information on the Mysterious Robe Line. Thanks!!!

Hi, I am trying to trace all Robe Families of CT. I would appriciate hearing or sharing any information on these families.

I'm not looking for flames; if this info is helpful to you, fine; if not then forget it. I'm just passing along something that works for me.
There are lots of places to leave genealogical queries and messages. If your objective in this (or any such) forum is to have your message read (and hopefully answered by a long, lost cousin) always include in the Subject line 3 things (if you have them). Name, Date, Location.
End of sermon. Amen.
