My grandfather was named Thomas Roberge as was his grandfather. I can trace the Roberge line that I belong to to the Isle of Orleans just outside of Quebec City. Two brother both named Pierre (one "the elder"), my line coming from Pierre "the younger," sailed from Bayeux, Normandy France in 1669 or so. Hope that helps
POW/MIA Korean War, ROBERGE

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave York County, Maine as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: ROBERT JULES ROBERGE
Born: 1930
Date of loss: November 30, 1950, POW

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The ROBERGE family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (78 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper Casualty Office.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
This is from a journal entry made back in 2003 by Terry (Roberge) Flaherty. She visited the homestead on Ile D'Orleans: . "We knocked and Yvette Roberge came to the door. Unfortunately, she doesn't speak any English and my French, for this encounter, was nonexistent. I did show her some of the papers I had and she understood why I was there. She invited us in and showed us a book on the family (in French) that we copied at the University. She also had a large journal that dated back to 1979 that was signed by the Roberges' that attended a large reunion then. Many people had signed the book since and she asked us to sign as well. She was glad that we stopped. Her husband passed away six years ago and she is always happy to meet anyone who takes the time to find the monument."

So, George died back in 1997. But, his wife Yvette was still on the original Roberge property. Back in 1979 a family photo showed they had 6 children--are you one of them? ...Diann

That is a good thing - you are still at it - it goes on from day to day - week to week - and some rimes year to year. Have you contacted the American Canadian Genealogical Society? They are at http://www.acgs.org/ and I ahve found them to be very helpful.

Denny Roberge

Have you used the services of the American Canadian Genealogical Services (ACGS) in Manchester, NH? They have an excellent library and do research for members and membership is very reasonable - I too had relatives emigrate to New England during the same period. There is also loads of information from google when one types in "Canadian emigration 1850-100"

Denny Roberge daroberge@earthlink.net

Help, please! Rose de Lima Roberge and brother Damas

My ggrandparents are Joseph Roberge and Perpetue Vallieres (poss. Valieres). Joseph was born in St. Henri de Lauzon in 1812. His parents were Louis Roberge and Archange deLisle. Their union produced Louis Treffle, Philomene, Thomas, Marie Odile, & Louis Honore. Perpetue's parents were Isaac Casimere Vallieres and Marie Salomee Gobeil (poss. Gobeille). Joseph and Perpetue married in St. Jean Chrysostome, Que., 28 Nov 1843. Joseph was a farmer and probably not well educated. NOW THE HELP I NEED; A Rose de Lima Roberge was married in St. Medard, Warwick, Que, on 23 Jan 1865. Her parents are shown as Joseph Roberge and Perpetue Valieres. In researching further, I found a Damas Roberge's death notice on 13 Aug 1867 in the same parish. MY QUESTION: In the 1860's, why or how would, a not well read, farmer and his wife leave the parish that their family had called home for many years, pick up stakes and move about 125 miles, without a motor vehicle? The Roberges and the Vallieres were both huge families. Could the stars have aligned in such a way that there were a Joseph R. and Perpetue V. in a separate part of Quebec? If anyone has any information on Rose de Lima Roberge, I would be very interested in that info.

Thank you for your response but I already had that info. I believe that Rose de Lima and Damas' parents are NOT my ggrandparents. I am of the belief that, as hard to believe as it is, there are two couples with the same names. Rose's date of birth is the same as that of my GrAunt, Philomene, in St. Jean Chrysostome. I find it hard to believe, in those days, Philomene changed her name. Additionally, I have found several Rose de Lima Roberges in the Drouin papers from St. Jean Chrysostome that are not the daughter of Joseph and Perpetue. Per the Warwick (St. Medard) death records, Damas would have been born about Mar of 1863, yet I find no record of that birth in either St. Medard or St. Jean Chrysostome. I hope that you can understand my confusion.

Hi Irene,
My sister and I went to the cemetary today and walked around for hours. We didn't find Louis Roberge/Robarge but we could have missed it easily - the place is huge. I wasn't sure what to look for for Fredette and did see several. The cemetary is under the Springfield Diocese. I can try to call them on Monday to see if there is some sort of map. I took many photos if you want me to send them but I'm not sure if they are relevant.
