How do I trace my ancestors?

Greetings to the Roch clan,

My name is Calista Roch and I was born and raised in Singapore. I am an Indian(Asian) by race and was wondering how to trace back to where I am came from. My grandad has passed on thus, no one else to turn to.

Does this mean that all of us belong to the same family tree since we bear the name Roch?

Researching my husbands family tree. The only thing known at this time is as follows. Born somewhere in Quebec his name was Andre Joseph Roch. He was in the Army or Air Force not sure which one. His mother was a Teacher and his father was a Doctor. Do not know if there was any other family. Born in 1918.

I am new to researching the Roch name as well as Alsace Lorraine. Has anyone else found family from that area ? Louis Roch came from there sometime prior to 1890 and went somewhere in Canada. His wfie was Angela Julian; I think he met her in Canada. Any ideas, or help appreciated about this family name.
