I am not related, but I found this obituary when researching old Shasta Co., Calif. newspapers. I am hoping it might help someone who is wondering whatever became of Cal Rocher.

Monday, January 23, 1899

M. R. Adams arrived in town Saturday evening with the body of his former partner, Cal Rocher. The body had been found by one of the party of five men whom Mr. Adams had stationed at the "Frenchman's Cabin" on Whiskey Creek to prosecute his search for the missing man.

The dead man was lying on the edge of the creek, only a quarter of a mile distant from the cabin. The unfortunate individual was evidently making for the cabin, but fell exhausted when nearly there. He was close enough to have been heard from the cabin but probably was too exhausted to make himself heard above the roar of the creek.

The body when found showed no signs of decomposition, and it was impossible to tell how long he had been dead. He had been missing since January 9, and was found on January 20.

The coroner's inquest was held Saturday evening, the jury returning a verdict of death from exposure. The funeral was held from Moody's undertaking rooms at 3 o'clock, the body being followed to the grave, by quite a number of friends. Owing to the absence of Rev. J. E. Wright, who was conducting religious services in the Enterprise district, J. G. Cooper of the Methodist Church conducted the funeral services.

Nothing has been found among the dead man's effects to establish his identity further than what is known, his name being Cal Rocher, he having resided in Washington and Oregon before coming to Redding.
