Paul! I was surprised to see you on Ancestry. I've been researching the Triplehorn tree (my mother was Vera Triplehorn, dau. of John Triplehorn). Lois was telling us at a party last summer that she had so much fun when she was visiting there (Sacramento?). Wish you & Sally could be here for more gatherings. Sue was here visiting as she usually does once or twice a year so Lois got the gang together. She's the "glue" of our class! Say hello to Sally for me. Love - your classmate, Sally Hilty Murray
p.s. Since researching this small population in Bluffton, I've found that we come from a might small gene pool;)

Hey Tim! Been awhile! Remember me? Larry Bish's daughter. Anyhow came to this board and found you here! Been working on my step-dad's mom's family. Her name was Anna Mae Rockey, She was born in Louisville, KY in 1903 and her dad died in 1908 leaving her and her siblings to be raised by her older half-sister (Mom died previously??). His name was William W. Rockey and he was born in Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana. His father was David Rockey and according to Census Records he was born in Pennsylvania, but I don't know where, abt. 1806....which would go with your posts asking for Rockeys who originated in Pennsylvania...that is as far back as I've gotten it so far and I have a ton of Info considering I just started this last weekend! Oh yeah and David's wife's name was Elizabeth Lafaver.

Louisa

Well you have given me some information I didn't have...thank you. I'm wondering about all the divorces since it was unusual in those days. Do you have any of the divorce documents that give us a "cause"? I have heard that Abe was huge...in fact I saw him when I was about 6 years old in Williamsport (I was born in 1945) so this must have been early 50s. Anyway, he was well over 300 lbs and didn't get around all that well. I'm told that he also liked to drink so maybe this had something to do with his divorce from Mary. Also, you never know if what you find out is true but our side describes Mary as quite a "run-around" and in the early years of her marrieage to Abe, she ran off with men several times and only came home for money, which he gave her thinking she would stay (she didn't). That is the reason that he "lost" the farm, according to Rockey lore.
When he met and married Mae (this is the correct spelling), she (had lost her 1st husband and twin boys in a flu epidemic) was very devoted to him. I vaguely remember her from my visit and she seemed to love children and was very kind. In fact my middle name is Mae after her.
I went to website you gave and found James' obit which I had posted there. Still haven't been able to find anything else on old James!
My email is babs26@rcn.com if you'd like to send direct.
thanks for the information

Re: James A. Rockey

Thanks for the info on Abram Rockey. Here's what I have:
Abram Rockey married Mary Brennen (maiden name Ablett) 9/4/1918 in Erie, PA. In 1919, they bought a farm in Warren, VT and moved there. They appear there in the 1920 census. They divorced 10/24/1923 in Washington Co., VT, and Abram married May McCracken (I guess that must be the name of her previous husband) on 11/10/1923 in Warren, VT (not PA). They abandoned the property around 1929 and appear in Jamestown, NY in the 1930 census. Part of the VT property was sold by the tax collector in 1940 to pay back taxes, and the rest was sold by the Probate Court in 1949 as abandoned property, with the net proceeds paid to Abram in Williamsport. One document I've seen indicates he may have lived in Scranton at some point in the 1930s.

Mary Ablett born 4/8/1877 in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter of William and Margaret (Fetzer) Ablett. Married Michael W. Brennen 12/5/1894 in Pittsburgh. They apparently divorced around 1916 and remarried after she and Abram were divorced. She died 5/13/1949 in Chicago and is buried in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Pittsburgh.

You might also be interested in the following link if you haven't already seen it:
www.pa-roots.org/data/read.php?802,437598,437598

Hello,
Thanks for your response. I've really hit a wall with finding any info on James. I knew he was born in NY (reportedly Amboy NY but I can't verify).
Please let me have info on your g grandmother if she was married to Abram. I knew he was married prior to his marriage to Mae Wesche in 1923 but don't have any details.
Abe and Mae married in Warren PA and sometime (in the 1940s) moved to Williamsport PA where they lived until they died. Abe had Parkinson's and died at the age of 76, 9/25/1957. Both are buried in Montoursville Cemetery in Williamsport.
Would love to hear more of what you may know.
thanks

Re: Origin of the Rockey name ...

I have studied it a bit and it is rather boring. For both the English and German origin Rockey's, it appears that for both families, it was a geographical based last name. The shear number of ways it has been spelled (Rockey, Rocky, Roche, Raque, Racke, Rackie.....) all are variations of a theme. Most likely ancestors were from a town near a distinctive rock feature. There is actually a town in Cornwall, England named Rock. And supposedly many families in the Cornwall area named Rockey. There is also an area in the Alcase Lorrain area, just on the France side, named LaRoche in which the German Rockey's may be from. Although tantalizingly, the German word for the for revenge is rache.

I am not related but I have an interest in them because Levi at one time resided within Bloom township of Fairfield county, Ohio. Their children are not all listed in the database as they weren't, to my knowledge, born in Bloom township, but their names and approximate birthdates appear in Levi's "notes" via census extractions within the online searchable database.

My website is at http://www.foorgenealogy.com/gene.html "Genealogy in Bloom Twp., Fairfield Co., OH"

Abram Rockey was married, briefly, to my g.grandmother. The marriage record for his next marriage (after her) indicated he was born in Bradford, Pa., and that his father James was born in New York (which you probably already know). I don't have any other info on James, but I'm wondering: do you know anything further about the date and place of Abram's death?
