The Rockwood family I know of was of Dorchester in 1633 and Braintree in 1636. The ancestor was Richard Rockwood (Rockett). Vivian VaLera Rockwood compiled a family history in 2 volumes. I first found it in the library in Mendon, MA where John Rockwood is listed as a founding father. I descend from this family. My line ends when Susanna Rockwood dies in 1736 in Mendon. She married a Moses Tenney and had one son survive--Josiah Tenney

The Book is called "4 Centuries of Amerian Descendants of Richard Rockwood". I only own volume 1. There are 2 volumes. Copyright 2000. Good luck.
Sandra - I have a copy of the Vivian Rockwood book too. My family tree starts on page 512 of Vol. I with Samuel and Miranda, my great-great grandparents. Our branch is also outlined begining page 692 with Mary C. Rockwood, my great grandmother. There are mistakes in dates etc. at least in my section of the book so I am supposing throughout the book. I currently live in California. Others in my branch live in MN, WA, and AR.

I don't think so. I know of several in MA and NH.

I don't think any surname will ever dye out completely. Georgraphic areas where there found may change, but names won't dye out completely as long as there are male family members that could pass it down.

If anyone has access to phone directories or other ways of finding out who the Rockwoods were/are in Ayer, Fitchburg or Luneberg I would appreciate it if you would e-mail their names and addresse's.
Right now I am interested in finding an obituary for a Mrs Rockwood, in her 90's that diedd about April-May or so of 2009. She may have been in one of the above towns, or in NH.

I would also like to learn about family members. I know that Mrs Rockwood, had at least one son, and he is married and has 3 children.

My e-mail is barb19401@verizon.net

Thank you

Barbara

This is going to be difficult, if not impossible, but I'd appreciate someone trying at least.

I am looking for an obituary for a woman named ? Rockwood.
I think she died about 3 or 4 months ago, perhaps around
April or May. She I believe was either in NH, or in the Ayer area of MA(not quite certain about this though)

I know that she had a least one son name Dale, who lives in Byfield, is married and he has 3 children.

Sorry I don't have more infomration, but as I said, a try is all I am asking, and if you can find it, that would be wonderful. You could e-mail it to me at barb19401@verizon.net, if you would prefer, if found.

Thank you one and all.

Barb

rOCKWOOD NAME TO tAYLOR

I came across something interesting, in Vivian LaVera Rockwood's second book of genealogy. Under summary and conclusions, Joseph Rockwood one of Richard's sons, changed his name from Rockwood to Taylor second generation. Perhaps this is why many are having difficulty tracing some of their rockwood ancestors .

Richardhad three sons by three different wives, Nathaniel, John, and Joseph Rockwood sons , three different wives.

Now, the Rockwoods produced the first four pastors of the First Baptist Church in Providence Rhode Island, Six myflower immigrants, sixteen lines to nine U.S.Presidents

This George Rockwood is buried in Fairlawn Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is identified as a Civil War veteran from Kansas. At the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors website, there are three entries for George Rockwood as a member of a Kansas unit; 13th Kansas Infantry, 14th Kansas Cavalry, and the 15th Kansas Cavalry. Are these three different men, two men, or just one? Anyone have any insight?

Hi Sandi,

You asked how I came to be in Australia, well during WW2, my father-in-law Myron Cheney was stationed in Australia for a short time, when he met his future Aussie wife.

They married whilst he was still stationed here and she then went to the USA as a war bride after the war was over.

When the youngest of their 4 children was 8, they decided to come back to Australia to live. So in answer to your question whether you have more relatives living here, the answer is yes. Our Rockwoods come from Myron's side, him being the grandson of Mary E Rockwood b 1857 in Holliston, who married Leonard Cheney in 1876.
