Hi. I know you posted this message a long time ago, but I am finding it now. My great grandfather was Charles Rhodey. He was born in 1867, just as one of the ones you listed here. I have no info on his parents, except I know they came from Hamburg, Germany. He was living in Alabama where he was married to a Louise. I do not know where he was before 1890, and for all I know it could have been in the locale you speak of here.

Any more info you may have would be great.

Thanx....

Kim Moran

Rhodey-Pickwell born 1871

I looked at the other children of Carl & Dora to see if I saw a John Rhody but did not locate one. The majority of the children were born/lived/died in Genessee or Orlean County. Let me know if I could be of any further help.

Dawn

My Roda's that came from Germany originally spelled their name Rohde but due to language barrier it turned into Roda. They came from the Mecklenburg area of Germany in the 1860's and settled in Genessee County, NY. I don't think we have a link. I don't find the names you listed in my database. My Roda's were Carl & Dora Roda with children Charles (4/1838), Sophia (11/1842), Frederick (5/1844), Henry (4/1850), Augustus (3/1851) and Minnie (3/1856). If any of this sound right let me know.

I looked at my Roda's and the only Edward Roda I have would not fit into your time frame (His father was born 1884). I also looked for middle names with Edward but found none that fit. During the 1880's my Roda's were in Genessee County, New York. There may have been others that I have not found yet though. Try Census or local county Historical Societies to see if they can help you. If you have not looked at USGenWeb site you should since it has lots of information. There is also the Later Day Saints Churches which can be a huge help with your research. Keep me updated since we may tie in to each other at a later date. Sorry I couln't be more of a help.

My grgranddad John Rodda b. 1834 in Prague, Czech. or Bohemia, came from Germany to New York in early 1870's, with wife Mary Kaiser Rodda and sons Simon James b. 1862 and John b. 1868, according to family records. They settled in Cleveland, OH where William and Mary were born, then moved on to Sac Co., IA where Anna Margaret was born. My grandparents Simon James (or reverse) and Anna Salasek were married in 1887 in Pocohantas Co., Havelock, IA. In 1916, Simon and several children moved to central WI, where he died. Anna Salasek Rodda did not move with the family and is buried in the Salasek Plot in Pocohantas Co., Havelock, IA. I have found lots of Rodda's from England, but none from Bohemia or Austria. Can you help?
