LOOKING FOR INDIANA RODENBECKS

I am looking for our lineage of Rodenbecks whom my grandmother Ida Mae Rodenbeck Zecher is from. My mother is the only product from an arranged marriage between her widowed mother (Amolia (Mollie) Catherine Huckemeyer Haiston Rodenbeck) and Henry (Henrich?) Rodenbeck of Indiana. The marriage ended before my grandmother was born and she has no knowledge of her many half siblings. Henry was an older widower and had many children from his previous marriage. If anyone has any information that may pertain, I would really appreciate it.

Forgive me for intruding but I am Ann Shaw's first cousin and I saw your response to her message. We have a great-grandfather who was named Friederich Christian Wilhelm Rodenbeck. He was born in Levern, Germany and emigrated to Cincinnati where he married a woman named Amelia Runge. His dates were 6/22/1855 to 4/30/1934. The names are very similar but it doesn't appear to be your man. He did have a daughter but her name was Alma and she married a man named William Becker.

We are searching for the family of my husband's grandfather, Wilhelm Rodenbeck. He died in Bristow, Iowa on April 16, 1914. His wife had died three years before. Five small children survived him. It appears he came to Iowa with his sister as a teenager. We have no other information, but most think he came from Germany. Thanks.

Since she is in her 90s, we don't like to bother her too late in the day. We do have some pictures of Wilhelm if that helps. More later.

Wilhelm Rodenbeck and his sister, Minna, emigrated from Germany leaving behind a brother or step brother. No other information can be found on his family before he came to Iowa. He was married to Sophie Dralle on February 17, 1899. She was 33 when she died following childbirth on May 30, 1911. She is buried in the Vilmar Lutheran Church Cemetery rural Greene. Wilhelm died on April 16, 1914 at the age of 39 and was also buried at Vilmar. They left six small children who were all raised with different families. The children were William, November 26, 1899; Herman, October 1, 1901; Minna, June 27, 1904; Maria, August 24, 1906; Alfred, November 22, 1908; and Art, April 20, 1911. His sister married a Carl Wiebke and may have died at a young age also. Any information you can give us would be appreciated as his last surviving child is in her 90s.

Hey John,
There must be a connection because there are too many common names. Also I wouldn't think that Rodenbeck is that common and to have been from the same area and ending up in Cincinatti is pretty coincidental. My husband's great grandfather was born 3Jul1850 and named his daughter, Mamie Amelia. He died in 1924, here in Birmingham, Alabama. I think he moved his family here in the late 1800's. The only other infor I have on him is his father was supposedly named Frederick or Friederich also. Maybe yours and mine were brothers. I have found that the same names were repeated alot even among siblings. I know more about Friederich Carl Rodenbeck's wife's family, the Chairsells.

I've been scanning the Radabaugh postings now and then.

Just a reminder to this group -- I did a genealogy about 10 years ago that had a large (70 page) appendix devoted to all of the Rodabaugh/Rodenbeck/Radenbaugh/Radabaugh (the R*d/t*b*ck/ch cognates) lines in the U.S. The genealogy is on the web, but the Appendix is only in the print version. Copies of this genealogy are still available. It is described at http://www.sheridanc.on.ca/~kem/Htmlgen/ctnrodad.htm.
A couple of the lines ended up using the Rodenbeck spelling in the twentieth century.

Dear Ann,

I just saw your post from 1999 on rootsweb and you have some similar names to my husband's great grandfather. His name was Frederick Carl Rodenbeck. He was born 3Jul1850 in Prussia. He married in Cincinnati, Ohio to Matilda Wilhemine Ottilie Chairselle on 4Jan1877. He had a daughter, Mamie Amelia, who was my husband's grandmother. My dates are close to some of yours and the name Amelia stood out. Does any of this connect with your information?

Susan Wood

RODENBECK Family -- Frederick RODENBECK

I am beginning to research my Rodenbeck line, with Frederick Rodenbeck and Amelia Runge (m.24 Oct 1883) , parents, Arthur Christian (b. 1884) and Elma W.(b. 1886), children. Elma married William Becker in 1940, probably second marriage for him. He was a distant cousin, and from the IGI I have found a Henrietta Rodenbeck who married a Becker at about the right time, in Levern, Westfalen, Preussen, which is where Frederick Rodenbeck is from. Do you know anything about this family? You can email me directly at ann-shaw@home.com.

Researching the family Rodenbeck who came to Illinois, Cook Co and Logan Co. Henry was 25 years old when he came on the ship New York from Bremen to NY March 25, 1868. I think he belongs to me. but where was he from? You can see more Rodenbeck research ie Richard, Louisa and intermarried with Buchholz lines at my webpage www.geocities.com/cbmeye1

Dear Marcia; Thanks for the info but I would really like to know how you fit into the picture. I notice the Janssen surname and that is in my line as well in Logan Co, IL area. Do you have more info on the Rodenbeck family that may help me in my search? Do you know about Arend and gretje's immigration? May I email you directly? Thanks a bunch!
