My great great grandfather, Napoleon Martinez or Rodriquez came to the United States between 1870 and 1895. When he came through immigration, the US officials asked Napoleon what his name was and he told them he was from Cuba. The US officials thought he was saying his last name was Cooper, so our name was changed from Martinez or Rodriquez to Cooper. Napoleon lived in Tallahassee, Florida and then moved to Thomasville, Georgia. He married Mamie Williams and they had six children. I am a descendant of Marion Frances Cooper-Montgomery.
