Rothlisberger (no "e") North Dakota

I work with a gentleman here near Seattle. His family comes from North Dakota (Mandan area) and he says that he belives that someone dropped the "e" when they were being processed throu immagration. His grandfater was called Jake and he has an Aunt Sally, still living. I see that there are some from Minnisota area that don't have the "e" either, but with my years of experience, spelling is open to "interpretation of the ear"! :o) Any direction you can give will be appreciated. He is a Chaplain in a County Jail and I think it would be fun for him to have some family history. Thank you. Bud (Rym {rhyme} Rytr {writer}.

Roethlisberger's Switzerland to PA

My great-great grandfather was Albert William Roethlisberger (1874-?)who emmigrated to the U.S. from Switzerland as did his brothers Ameil/Emil (1879-?) and Ernest (1884-?). Their father was reportedly a judge in Switzerland. Albert married Sophia Dinker (1871-?) (we think Dinker was the maiden name) and had four children; Albert William (1899-1976), John J. (1901-1995), Anna W. (1903-1980), and Sophia (?-?). If anyone can shed any light on where the family came from in Switzerland I would appreciate it, as well as any ancestors or descendants. Emil's draft card says his birth town but I can't quite make it out, it looks like LOUnm?OA, Switzerland. Email me at storej@monroeville.pa.us.

The closest I can get to that with my line of Roethlisbergers is Christian b. Sept 3 1801 m. to Elizabeth Aeschlimann b. May 27 1801....children are:
Anna Barbara, Elizabeth, Christian, Katharina, Elisabeth, Magdalena, Maria, Ulrich, Theresia

I would suggest researching through the LDS church records under Julius Billeter research notes on the Roethlisbergers of Switzerland

I think there was also a Simon Peter, a sister Magdalena (they called her Matty) there was a sister named Lizzy. There was several others, but I can't find my information.
Sheila

I was told that Clara Roethlisberger had two sons. One of Clara's sons was named Elmer. I was told Elmer, at one time, lived in the Peoria, IL and was the only one who had information on his mother's family (Nelson's from Denmark). I think Elmer Roethlisberger was born approx. 1930's.

I wish I had more information but all I have is verbal information from a distant cousin. Please let me know if you have a cousin named Elmer Roethlisberger.

Think we are connected through my 3 gr grandmother Katharine Roethlisberger Leethy (Luthi)--she had relative, and I have copy of letter to her from Simon R in Monroe, Wisconsin, dated April, 1917 where he addresses her as Aunt, and talks of her brother in Switzerland (his father) and mentions his 2 brothers Garland and Christ are deceased. Letter head is "Spring Brook Dairy Farm", RFD No. 5, Monroe, WI.

If you think we are on same page you can contact me. Thanks.

Amanda,
Do you have someone in your family that was in the Olypics? My father wrote to someone in that family when I was younger. My mother's name before she married was Juanita Rothlisberger. Her father was Gottlieb and his father was Ulrich Rothlisberger. He came to the U.S. around the late 1800's. I have everything written down, but I have to find it because I just moved. I have taught grades 1,2, and 3 for five years and for the past four years I have worked as the librarian. I am attending University of Missouri at Columbia. I am getting my certification in Library Science. I hope one day to become a geneology librarian. There aren't to many Rothlisbergers left down here. My grandfather has one brother alive and two sisters out of ten or eleven children. My mother is the only one left in her family. Everyone, her parents and her siblings have all passed on already. Their last name use to have an e in it also.
Sheila

Several ROETHLISBERGERs are listed in Chabag/Schabo, Bessarabia, Russia, church records. Ursus ROETHLISBERGER listed as b. in Langnau, Berne, Switz., d. 1866, age 58 y. He and Catherina OEMLE (aka OCHMLE) had several children. One son, Pierre David (aka David Peter REDELSPERGER in USA), was stepfather of my husband's grandfather. Would like information on Switz. ancestors or other children of Ursus as well as life of David Peter after death of wife Louise WANKE MELJO/MEILLAND REDELSPERGER. David married Elizabeth SWEET from Michigan in OK in 1908, and possibly moved to and died in Michigan.

I hope you still check this message board. I know there was a Frederic Roethlisberger who was born in 1828 in Canton Bern, Switzerland. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1849 & resided in Switzer Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio. He married Mary Moser and re-located to W. Virginia in 1861. He had 9 children, one of whom was George Roethlisberger who was born in 1863 in New Martinsville, W. Virginia. George married Charlotte (Lotty) Schupbach who was born in 1871 and together they had 5 children: Jessie, Albert, Forrest, Bertha, & Harry. The surname was changed somewhere along the line from Roethlisberger to Rothlisberger. Hope this helps.

Hi, I know this post of yours is very old but I just found it......Sorry it has taken so long.
I am the great greandaughter to a Ulrich Roethlisberger ( still spelled that way today). My Ggrandfather came to the USA from Langnau, Canton Bern, Switzerland in the year 1866.His ship landed in New York. Soon afterward he, his wife and their children went to Ohio by way of train where they remained and even today they are there. It is believed that his father, sister and brother in law traveled with them.
He was born in 1841.
