There is no mention of a Charles Abraham Roettger in the book. And from my family tree I do not find many links to Ohio. I do not subscribe to the World membership of ancestry.com so I do not have access to anything out of the United States.

Ann Roettger

Does the book "Looking Back" refer to any Roettgers in Ohio? My ggrandfather, Charles Abraham Roettger, b 1843 came to Cincinnati, OH from Hamburg (?) Germany around 1881. I'm trying to find out where he was born and if he actually did leave from Hamburg with his wife, Henrietta Schroeder.

Any info would be appreciated.

Kathy

I came across your post regarding Roettger's near Somerset, WI. I am researching the Roettger name (my husband was Ronald Roettger)and one of his grand-uncles (Christian Roettger) had a son William Roettger who was married to Lena Nagel. Christian's also had another son Frederick who married Augusta Nagel. I have been to the cemetery where Lena are Augusta are buried and have pictures of their tombstones. I also have a copy of the book "Looking Back" about Roettger family. One of Christian Roettger's daughter named Martha is also buried there and I have a picture of her tombstone also. If you would like to contact me, you can.

Greetings.

Hopefully you are either still checking the site or getting emails. :)

I am trying to locate more information for my GG Grandfather, William Roettger. He was born abt 1861 and seemed to have immigrated to New York in 1894. He was married to an Elizabeth ?? and his children (from what I can tell) were William (abt 1896), Elizabeth (abt 03 Oct 1898) and my Great Grandfather, Casper Frank Roettger (23 Jun 1902).

They seem to hang around the Manhattan area from what I can find with the CENSUS records. But I just can't find a link back to Germany to go any further.

This coming January I plan on upgrading to the International version of Ancestry and hoping this will help - but wanted to post to your message in hopes that there may be some links.

Thanks.
Charles.

I'm searching for my Grandmother's ancestry. She was Katherine Luise Roettger. Her father was R Henry Roettger. I believe he is Reinhardt. Here I get stuck. I believe R Henry's father was Henry Roettger. I can only find census record in 1900 for this. However, at that time, Henry was married, for his second, to Carolina. The children living with them were: Clara, Henry, Louis?, Ida?, Anna, and Carolina.

Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, I am Gerald Roettger, posted messages above.
The surname Roettger has many spellings. In Femme Osage Mo in 1847, it was Roettcher as it came from Prussia. In 1690 in Prussia it was Roettger. I hired a German genealogist who traced the family to a small old villiage of Gestringen Wesfalen Prussia, and the church records are in Alswede.

A very kind person, Hal Beumer located a birth record of Friedrich Wilhelm Roetcher in the Church Records of Femme Osage United Church of Christ. Parents of Friedrich was given as Christian Roetcher and Wilhelmine Dorothea Luecke.
With this information the German Genealogist was able to locate the family in Church Records of the Evangelical Church of Alswede Westfalen Prussia. Christian Roetcher's parents were Johann Henrich Roettcher and Marie Ilsebein Varhenkamp. Wilhelmine's parents were Friedrich Wilhelm Luecking and Maria Elizabeth Luecking. The church records are in Alswede, however the family is from nearby Gestringen Westfalen Prussia. Johann Henrich Roettcher's parents were Henrich Simon Roettger and Catharina Ilsabein Grawenkamps of Gestringen Westfalen Prussia.

Christian Rotger (umlaut O) and wife (name unknown) emigrated from Westphalia Prussia in 1844, and settled in the Dutsow, Warren Co. or Augusta, St. Charles Counties of Missouri. Christian Rotger and wife died of Cholerea in 1855, leaving at least two orphans, Lisette Rotger (1841-1920) and Frederich Rotger (1844-1927). Frederich married Gestina (rosa) Stinken (1850-1932) in St. Louis in 1874. Fred and Rosia Rotger dropped the umlaut and the name became Roetger. Fred and Rosa had three sons and a daughter, Frederick2, Herman, John and Annie. Frederick2 married and had one son, who became a Catholic priest, Father John Roetger. Herman married Mary Antoinette Reichardt in 1910, and had three sons, Herman (Edward), Joseph and Henry. Herman2 who lived his adult life as Edward J. Roettger married Estelle Yount in 1935, and had a daughter, Virginia, and a son, Gerald E. Roettger (that's me). Joseph Roettger married Juliann Hanagan in 1935 and had two sons, Gary Roettger and Thomas Roettger. Henry Roettger married but had no children of his own.
Desperately need help with the name of Christian Rotger's Wife. I cannot find a German Genealogist who will do research without it. I have been unable to find them in the 1850 Census.

Hello,
I am just beginning a search for my father's ancestors. We live in Lincoln County Missouri which is about 50 miles northwest of Saint Louis Missouri. His name is Everett Anton Rottger. His father's name was Frank Rottger and his mother's name was Philomena Wilhemina Stark Rottger. He is the youngest of six children. Marion, Viola, Calvin, Francis, Floyd and Everett. The last name used to be spelled Roettger but for unknown reasons, Frank dropped the "e". Frank allegedly had at least one sister who spelled it Roettger. Philomena's parents were Julia Blackmore Stark and Henry Stark. That's about as much as I have at this point. Any info would be appreciated.

SGT. O Roettger - 1945. Over the weekend I purchased a military steamer trunk. I live in St. Louis MO. Inside the trunk was an envelope with pictures of gentelmen in uniform. The address on the front of the envelope was for an Army Air Force Base in Victorville CA, adressed to S|. SGT. O. Roettger, postmarked April 2(?), 1945. I have discovered this is the Air Force Base radar technology was taught for B29 bombers during WWII. I received an e-mail explaining this from the Air Force. I would like to find someone in the family to return these pictures. Please contact me at connie.aaron@compaq.com

I know that these msgs are over a year old but this information may be of some use - My husbands family is from St. Louis, Mo. His father Kenneth David Roettger (1929-1995) was born and raised in St. Louis. His parents were William August and Tillie Frances Swartzman Roettger (1891-1982). As I have just gotten started I dont have a much info on William. I know that William and Tillie had no other children besides Ken so there are not any other decendants from him other than us, but maybe the name William August Roettger can help. I have no idea about any siblings or his parents. I do know that my husband recalls visiting an Uncles farm. I am not sure if that was a brother of his grandfather or not.
Lalena Roettger
