BRONX, N.Y. – A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Reed’s Chapel AME Church, 1939 Jacobs Road in Youngstown, Ohio for Ms. Georgia Patterson, known as “Shibby” by her friends and family, 85, who passed away on June 25, 2012, after a brief illness.
She was born in Columbus on Aug. 18, 1926, the daughter of the late Gertrude and Lewis Rogers.
Georgia worked at the former Pic-Ohio Hotel, as their elevator technician until the hotel closed.
She also worked at the YMCA operating their elevator until she retired.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Lucille Hassell; her grandmother, Alberta Childs; a brother, Elmer “Ham” Rogers; and a sister, Marilyn Rogers.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Yolanda Hassell of Bronx; seven sisters, Emma Wallace, Jeanette Belt, Albertha McMillian, Beverly Rogers, Loretta Rogers, Sandra Rogers and Charmaine Evans; two brothers, Lewis “Red” (Darlene) Rogers of Youngstown, Ohio and Larry Rogers (Gloria) of Howland, OH; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
