Growing up, "Aunt Jonnie" as we called her, was like a grandmother to me. She was one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. I only knew that she had one son and that there was a car accident. After that she married "Papa" as we called him (Harold Leymaster).

Rusty, I may have met you one time when you were about 16 and on a visit to Aunt Jonnies -- and so was I. Would love to connect!

Hello,
It has been quite awhile since your post. Have you learned any more from Phillips line? Did he have a sister Maria Teresa Rohmann who married Johann W. Schieffer in 1830 in Dusseldorf?
His line eventually lived in Wisc. where most of the Metz family settled after moving from Buehl, Baden, Germany.
Please if you are still interested send e-mail.
Veronica
vvale2001@sbcglobal.net

I have a number of Anna/Ann Rohman's in my data base from the Peoria, Ill area but I don't have any information on who they married. The Rohman's from this area originate from the Peter Rohman and Anna Ranhold Rohman family that came from Bavaria, Germany and settled near Spring Bay & Metamora, Illinois. Contact me if you get more information.

Rusty

I'm not sure if I can help you but many of the Rohman's in the Upper Midwest originated from a family that came from Bavaria to Metamora, Woodford County, Illinois in about 1834. The parents were Peter Rohman and Anna Ranhold. They had six sons plus 3 other children many who had large families. At least one of the decendants of these families ended up in Nebraska. I do not have a Howard Ross Rohman in my records but I have two Phillip Rohmans and the Rohman's were related to the Ross family from Livingston County. I would encourage you to get a death certificate and obituary from your grandfather. Good Luck.

Annie--I am sure now that we are on different tracks. I thought there was a possibility of our Arthurs being the same, with Art changing his name spelling because of the family scandel. The Arthur Rohmann I am looking for is an older brother to my grandmother who I know was born in 1880 in Germany. The one I am looking for was born in the 1870s. Your help in finding his birthday helped me to eliminate him. I really appreciate all your help. It is possible that mine stayed in the furniture-upholstry business in the Philadelphia area or went back to Mass where family once found him after running off with investment money and the maid--he is our colorful uncle. Thanks again. Ellen

Ellen, Sorry it took me this long to respond.
I dont know that much about Art Rohman. I was young,,,10-19 yrs old. I know he was the bartender and owned Rohman's in Shohola Pa. during the 60's. Every one use to go there after church on Sundays. It was a very popular thing to do then. He was very popular in the area. He was a big man who smoked a cigar. I remember him very well. You should go there and ask about him. There are some very old books in the saloon from the 60's. A lot about him. My parents and grandparents knew him. They have all passed away. I could give you directions. My husband and I still visit the saloon. It's located on the Delaware River across the river from Barryville Ny. (near Port Jervis) Hope this helps. Annie

I saw this Rohmann family in the 1880 census. The Louis you refer to was 5 or 6 years old then, which would have put him at the same as my ggrandfather Louis Rohmann would have been in 1880. Some names ring a bell, others don't. Let's keep in touch in case one of us hits the jackpot!
Martha

Hopefully you are still active on the Ancestry.com message board since this original message is so old. I am researching a Herman Rohmann family with many of the same or similar names that you have listed. The difference is that my Henry Rohmann family was in St. Louis, MO at the time of the 1880 Census. Henry is listed with wife Louisa, children Henry, Annie (that would be the same age as your Anna), Willie, Lena, Ernst, Henrietta, Herman, and Louis. I am descended from Henrietta who married John Bennett on April 25, 1896 in St. Louis, MO. They had two children -- Ruth Elizabeth and Esther. I am just curious as to wether we could descend from the same family -- and if so, have you been able to come up with more information on the Rohmann family? I am just beginning my search and most of my information is word-of-mouth from family members. Very few hard facts with verifiable sources. The marriage date is accurate because my mother has John and Henrietta's marriage certificate. If you don't respond back soon, I will try your e-mail address directly.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Lynn

I am just starting my search for ancestors with the last name of Rohmann. Your message caught my eye because of your reference to Louis Rohman born in St. Louis with a father named Herman. My GGrandmother was Henrietta Rohmann, whose father was Herman and who had a younger brother named Louis. I found an 1880 Census record in St. Louis that lists the family I think belongs to me. Father-Herman, Mother-Louisa, Children: Henry,Annie,Willie, Lena, Ernst, Henrietta, Herman and Louis. Henrietta married John Bennett on April 25, 1896. They had 2 children -- Ruth Elizabeth and Esther. My grandmother is Ruth Elizabeth Bennett Blenden and told stories about her favorite Uncle Louie. The information I have is that he worked for Busch Beer Co. This is about all the information I have on my Rohmann(Rohman) ancestors. Could we be from the same family -- and if so -- have you been able to come up with any more information about this family? I will appreciate any information you are willing to share.

Valentine Rohmann was the son of Peter Rohmann and Anna Ranhold who emigrated from Bavaria in 1846 to Woodford Co IL. He married Gertrude Walschmidt in Dec 30 1856, obit says 57. Have siblings of Valentine and Gertrude. Where do you fit in? I am the great grand daughter of Theodore Leo Rohmann who was Valentine's son. Have some info, not further back than Dettingen, Bavaria. I do have a paragraph from an Obit that tells of their journey to America...quite a little boat trip up the Ohio and Mississippi rivers to IL.
