Surnames: Roi, Roy, Lougie, Cadorette
I've been searching for this side of my family for years and getting quite frustrated! I know that Annie (probably Anne Roy/Roi/Lougie?) married my Grandfather Joseph Cadorette (Cadaret/Cadarette). They had 7 children: Ovila, Louis, Wilfred, Frederick, Alida, Irene and my grandfather Lionel (Lionelle), who was born in 1910.
I know that Annie died on December 13, 1946 and is buried at the Precious Blood Cemetery in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Although her name is listed on the Rhode Island Cemetery Transcriptions, I can't find her in the SSD listings. There is also confusion as to when and where she was born. I thought she was born on July 11, 1873 in Calais but my aunt thought around 1865 in Fort Kent. I do know that her mother was from Canada and that her father was born in Maine but I can't find anywhere she is listed before the 1920 Rhode Island Census where she appears with Joseph and the children.
One tenuous link showed an Anne Roy with her father as Edouard Roy and Anne Chabot, but again I can find no definitive links. Although there is an Edouard Lougee in 1860 in Madawska and an Edward Roi in the 1850 Madawska census, they don't include Annie (too early) and there is nothing in the 1870/1880 census transcriptions that I can find. Time and time again, the trail goes cold and although there are possibilities, there is nothing concrete or factual I can link directly to Annie. The name changes do not help.
The family history has it that she or her mother was Native American. The only N.A. link I can find it to Jean Roy, who did marry a native woman (Marie Aubois) in 1660 in Acadia. Could this be a ancestral link?
I do know that our family origin is French Canadian. French was the main language in my grandfather's house, our family have lived in Canada, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Massachusetts but Annie has been a complete mystery to me for 5 years and I keep coming up against walls, so any help/clues would be greatly appreciated. My e-mail is kailah@theletmegroup.com. Thanks!
