Gr. uncle Frank immigrated to canada 1912 from Sydmonton Hampshire. England. He joined the canadian army july 29 th 1915 attestation No 163428 he served in france and Belgium. A nd was gassed in the trenches from which he never fully recovered.he lived at 263 Gerrard ST. Toronto.He married Margaret.Ann Cope. at 20 Albert ST.Toronto. officiated by E M Owen Staff Capt.on the 22nd Nov, 1924.I know that they had two children,a son John and a daughter. Frank sadly died in the 50s and the last knpwn addess I have for margaret is 13 Rosemary Ave Lake Wilcox.

Albert Rolf, son of Stephen and brother to Stephen. The latter Stephen is my great grandfather who married Clemenia Brown producing as son William Wallace Rolfe married Ruby Jane Lake, produced my father. I am familiar with ancestors and some descendants of Albert. Where would you like to begin?

thank you for that link, how interesting. jamestown RI is less than an hour from where we live now. i found much of the lineage that i have from ancestry and a few relatives that i connected with in canada. my husbands father was ernest rolfe who also died in a construction accident when he was three (crane cable snapped and crushed in foundation). who is capt. william rolfe to you and do you have any other information that might be of use to my tree? do you have a tree started?

Hi, Darren. I replied to you about location of Ephraim's birth and death, but forgot to ask you if you'd send me info on Benjamin from Michigan Library. I read the Ingham Cty history online, and pulled from it info I needed. Didn't see much of anything on Benjamin's brother Dr. Manassah L. Rolfe, other then mentioning his move to Vevay. Also did find that he was still alive in 1845 as in Eaton Rapids State census. My Jonathan's family is difficult to locate info on. Especially his one daughter, my gggrandmother Mariann. Married Emma Tonge in 1833. They had 5 children Samuel,Robert Henry,Emma,Sarah,Thomas.Emma Tonge married Alfred Chapman after Rob.Henry's death in 1854.Their son Samuel married Hannah Capon b.1840 Their eldest son Rob.Henry b.1858 married Annie Wingfield after Rob.Henry's death she married A.Llewelyn. Annie Eliabeth Rolfe was born 1887 to Robert Henry Rolfe foundry worker Died 1891 and Annie Winfield. She was sent to Canada aboard the "Tunisian" 1901.Her two brothers Robert Henry b.1885 and William b.1881 sent aboard "Labrador" 1893. They has another sister Florence Gertrude. I am a desendant of Robert Henry my grandfather was William. Hope you can connect and add info.

Annie Elizabeth was born in 1887 to Robert Henry Rolfe and Annie nee Wingfield. She was a British Home Child. Went to Canada aboard the "Tunisian" 1901 aged 14. Her brother Robert Henry b.1885 shipped aboard the "Labrador" 1893. I think there may have been another brother either William or Thomas also shipped out. What a shocking thing it was all those little children sent to a new country on their own. Would love to hear about your connection to Annie.

It took me 9 years to answer. I have not been back to this board obviously and was never notified I feel sure. Hope during that time you were able to find what you were looking for. The book I referred to only traces the Baskerville tree and allied families of which Bolling is. I do not recognize the other names you mention. The book would not trace the Bolling tree except for where it meets the Baskerville and how.

Gosh...I forgot all about this thread and was never notified. I will still take a chance that you may see this. My great uncle's name was Edgar McCombs Baskerville, not Combs. I don't know where the middle name came from. You have probably found what you were looking for by now I hope. Sorry for the 8 year delay.

My ancestry research is a little complicated as I am trying to tie this Joseph Rolfe into my lineage and at the same time trying to inform a second person.

Yesterday I went to the Norfolk Records Office UK to search on Baptisms for Methwold, Norfolk UK from 1800 to 1808 and found a few families of Rolfes.

I found a son Joseph born August 11th 1806, Christened August 31st 1806 to a Joseph & Maria Rolfe.

Also a son Joseph born November 1st 1806, Christened December 7th 1806 to a William & Sarah Rolfe, this is the one I think fits in with whom I am looking for.

This may not be of help to you but there was also a son born whose name I couldn't read on December 28th 1804, Christened January 27th 1805 to a Richard & Ann Rolfe.

Yes I am also aware that there is a Norfolk in USA but my source tells me that on this particular Joseph Rolfes Death Certficate it states he was born in Methwold? and yes he was also a convict, so it seems we are trying to track the same person.

It seems from a Death Certificate for a Joseph Rolfe in Australia that he was transported from Fort George in America, but it also states that he was born in Norfolk UK but as yet I cannot find any connection with this Joseph Rolfe and the one above.

John ROLFE (b abt 1774) married Elizabeth SMITH 1803 in London. They had three children,
John Valentine ROLFE,
George Valentine ROLFE and
Mary Ann ROLFE.

John Valentine ROLFE went to the US and ended up in Indiana.

Mary Ann's descendants born in Australia.

Don't know what happened to George.

John had a sister Mary Anne ROLFE who married Joseph STRUTT.

I would like to find the parents of John and Mary Anne ROLFE.

Can anyone suggest the relevance of Valentine as a second given name? Did the name come from the Rolfes or the Smiths?

On 'my' Joseph Rolfe's Death Cert.in 1878 it states Norfolk, England, and/ 40 years in NSW, but no mention of Methwold. The youngest son by his second wife is the informant.A contact in England looked up births & possible parents for me some years ago and the names you listed are familiar to me although I haven't ever found any proof of who are his actual parents. As I mentioned on the Convict Shipping Indent of the "Burrell" his surname is recorded as Ruth, and under Native Place is recorded, Fort George, America. In a newspaper article his surname is recorded as Roof, and his nick-name as Yankee Joe.

I also searched for a connection to the Joesph born at Methwold because although I searched in England & America I haven't been able to find a record of my Joseph's birth. I also searched for him in to Norfolk without success. However there is also a Norfolk in America just to keep us confused! Lloyd Rolfe - St Mary Bourne, Hants

I am stuck, my Rolfe tree goes back to a Lloyd Rolfe (could be his second name)born circa 1805 in St Mary Bourne, Hants.
He married Harriet and had a son and daughter Lloyd Jnr and Harriet Jnr born in St Mary Bourne and Longparish respectively. Son Lloyd married a Sarah from Grately, and had a son Henry Lloyd
born circa 1860.
The family moved to Abbotts Ann.
There is a Robert Rolfe born circa 1713 in St Mary Bourne, and also an Edmund Rolfe, son of Robert Rolfe, born circa 1638, who was a Yeoman at either Hurstborne Priors or St Mary Bourne who I suspect may be links and I think the original line comes from Wiltshire.
Any knowledgeable Rolfers who can help ?????

Leonard Rolfe, Michael Rolfe

I am trying to trace my Greatgrandfather Leonard Rolfe who was American.
All I have containing any of his information is his marriage certificate; Married in Eastbourne, England 11.11.1914 to Hilda Annie Kimbell, he was aged 29 and an Insurance Superintendent, his address was 49 Firle Road, Eastbourne. His father, Michael, was a Shipstore Merchant.
Leonard & Hilda lived in Eastbourne until 1917 when they moved to Shirland Road,Paddingon,London. They had 5 children Edward, Betty, Peggy, Cyril(my GF) and (Amy) Vera between 1915 & 1922, they divorced at some point and Leonard remarried.
He was said to have served in the US Army Medical Dental Corps, which would explain his untraceable migration, but possibly deserted. There is no trace of him on the 1911 England census.
Any advice or information would be gratefully received.

I believe Oscar A. Rolfe was a son of Edward Rolfe and his wife Miney Burton. Edward Rolfe was the son of William Rolfe, Jr. of Mecklenburg, Virginia.

Oscar A. Rolfe migrated to Morgan Alabama where he married Ann White daughter of Rev. Samuel B. White and his wife Amelia A. Harris. Oscar A. died in abt. 1866 in Morgan, Alabama.

I would really like to be in contact with others who are researching this line. Every scrape of information is helpful.
