Oh, I forgot to mention that it stated on his immigration record that his ethenicity was Polish.

Looking for information about Conrad Rolla who was born January 10, 1891 in Plotzig, Germany. His parents were Josef and Maria Rolla from Plotzig. Conrad immigrated to the U.S. in 1914 and listed his last residence as Gessen, Germany. He also had a brother Frank, who also immigrated to the U.S. around the same time. Any information about this family would be greatly appreciated.

My family came from Poland (they called it Austria Poland) The area was around the Dnietse (spelling?) River, which now may be in Russia.

My grandfather Wladyslaw Rolla came to Ware, MA about 1908. His sister settled around Enfield or Bridgeport CT.

We pronounced the name as
Roll la like a dinner roll, not rahla, as people from Rolla Missouri do.

My father always thought the name may have originally been Italian, since Poland was over-run by other armies so many times, and maybe an Italian soldier settled there. . . . . . . . . . . . . .peg12345@aol.com

I saw your message from November about how to pronounce Rolla.

We always said
Roll ( as in dinner roll) la

It was my last name, and my grandfather came from Poland.

My father always suspected the name was Italian, because Poland was over-run by other armies so many times, and maybe an Italian soldier settled there.

Check under ROLLA, ROLLOW, ROLOW and ROLO, this is the ROLLO surname but is often misspelled.

Does anyone know anything about a Carlo Rolla who sailed for New York from Liverpool, England round about 1910? His father was called Guiseppe, & came, we think, from the Turin area in Italy. Hope you can help - we know nothing about him after he left. Thank you very much.

Rolla or Rola from the island of Corvo, Azore Islands. My mother's family was named Rola(Rolla is the old spelling). They were from the only town, Villa Nova population about 400. I'm not sure of the nationality of this name since many Spanish and some Italians went to the Islands. If anybody out there knows the origin of the name please e-mail me. Thank you

I am trying to get information on Luisa (Louisa?) Rolla who was born (I think) in Sant' Agnello, Italy in (I think) 1864. She emigrated to New Haven, Connecticut in 1892 (I think) with her husband Antonio Maresca and son Raffaele, then two years old. They settled in New Haven, Connecticut and had three more children: Antonio, Jr.. Giuseppina (my husband's mother) and Natale. Luisa died in East Haven 11/6/1921.

As y ou can see, I don't have much information on my husband's ancestors. I wrote to Sant' Agnello several months ago but have received no reply. By the way Sant' Agnello is part of Sorrento, Italy.

If anyone has information on Luisa, I would appreciate hearing from him or her. Than ks.

What was your wife's grandmother's name? Carl, say's we are all from the same lineage, that being the
Viking Rollo (850-927) invaded Normady and became its first
Duke.Later he carried out raids in Sicily and one of his ancestors Robert Guiscard completed the Italian conquest in 1061...

I had hoped for Rollie That is the way My Grandfather was supposed to have pronounced it.In His Fathers will He spelled out Rolley. And I thought Ireland was the only Country Raped and Piledged by Spain, Italy, England and Norsemen.

Hi, nice to hear from you, We pronounced the name as ROLL O or ROLLOW but spell it ROLLO, I have a clipping from an Alabama news paper that states our branch of the ROLLO's come from Italy to Ireland and then to the USA... I am descended from John H. ROLLO (son 0f JESSE G. ROLLO) and QUEEN EMILY ANN BOOTH's son Benjamin Franklin ROLLO and PEARL BELZORA HENSON's son (my parents) WILLIAM GARRISON ROLLO and LILLIAN LORRAIN BURNES ... I found my great grandparents married under ROLLA and buried under ROLO and the census's and deeds as ROLLO... My ROLLO's come from SC, GA, AL, TEX. and my line went on to Okla..

Dont know if I have any connection to the Rollas mentioned, but looking for branch from what is now Ukraine. In particular any ANDREW, born 1928 and lived around Munhall-Homestead around 1936 and after and his brother, George, born 1925. Their fathers name was George and mother, Mary. They were supposedly divorced. ANY INFO GREATLY APPRECIATED.

For my 50 th. Birthday I called Rolla MO. Library A Young Lady answered the phone Rallah Library she said the founders were from Raliegh NC. that was how they pronounced it. School Teachers Gave Me A Fit!

Sorry I didn't get back to You sooner. I tried sat. night site was very busy I couldn't get in. All I know is the information in my first message. My Granddad was born Rootstown Ohio 1875. Just 25 or so
mi. east of Akron Ohio . 1/2 of my ancestors from that area .His Father was David Lansing Russell b. Tallmadge O. Mother Charlotte Smith b.Rootstown O. I am unable to find any clue of Rolla in the Russell Line we have history of them clear back to England 1600.
they first settled Branford Conn.
